Insurgent punk-hardcore protest band BARFBAG, featuring industry veteran and vocalist David Bason with Brian Viglione (THE DRESDEN DOLLS, THE VIOLENT FEMMES, NINE INCH NAILS) on drums and Kenny Carkeet (AWOLNATION), will release their riotous, debut album, “Let’s Stop A War”, on Election Day, November 3rd via Stay Gold Records.

As the GOP convenes for their Republican National Convention,  BARFBAG denounce current regime with a vicious, ripping hardcore anthem about the oppression of minorities titled “Street Crime”. The song premiered at NewNoiseMagazine.com and can be streamed directly below.

Commenting on the new song, vocalist David Bason states:

“The lyric in this song is “Street crime is a reaction to oppression”.
 
Systemic racism keeps minorities from owning property. Bigoted lending practices shut black and brown communities out of owning. Property ownership is the most proven way of amassing wealth. The inability to own property leads to generation poverty and a lack of upward economic mobility.
 
If you look at street level crime through this lens it starts to make sense. “When we can’t pay the power bill, when we can’t pay our rent, when we can’t even put fast food on the table….you will not blame the victim”. If we have to break the law to get by we are not the problem.
 
This song has a call to action. It’s time to fight back. The working class will hit you where it hurts, in the pocketbook. The end of the song depicts a few scenarios where fighting back could really make a difference.”

BARFBAG was born when Bason was confused by the lack of protest records that were being released in such a politically charged time. He tuned out the social media scream, brushed up on his history, revisited his philosophy books, ingested hundreds of political podcasts and set out to write an album that documented his reaction to his environment. There is strength in numbers so he asked his old buddies to help.

Carkeet and Viglione became Bason’s trusted musical partner. Bason had signed the Dresden Dolls when he was an A&R man for Roadrunner Records. With the comfort of a longstanding friendship, a shared love for and deep knowledge of punk rock, it was the perfect working relationship. Brian proved to be a prolific writer in addition to playing drums, guitar and bass on all songs.  Another trusted friend, Joe Cardamone (THE ICARUS LINE) mixed the record.
