“Walking In The Air”, the new video from former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen‘s new project HARUS, can be seen below. A brand new HARUS live album/DVD will be made available worldwide by earMUSIC in collaboration with Edel‘s classic music division Berlin Classics. This joint venture from two music labels apparently far away from each other would probably sound bizarre at first sight (a label operating in alternative and metal music with one representing traditional classical music artists). The reason lies beneath the many sides of Tarja Turunen‘s music. Source: Blabbermout.net
Marcelo Cabuli, the husband of former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen, and his business partners are demanding nearly 100,000 euros (approximately $135,000) in defamation damages from the parties behind the NIGHTWISH book “Once Upon a Nightwish: The Official Biography 1996-2006”. Named in the lawsuit were the publishing house Like Kustannus Oy and the author of the book, Marko “Mape” Ollila.
According to YLE.fi, proceedings began at Helsinki District Court on Tuesday, with Cabuli and his Brazilian business partners arguing that the book includes false accusations and insinuations that have caused them suffering and financial problems.
The book, which was published in Finnish in 2006 and in English three years later, blames Cabuli for the events leading up to Turunen‘s dramatic expulsion from the band in late 2005.
The Argentine businessman is seeking more than 50,000 euros in damages over claims made in the book, while three of his Brazilian business partners are seeking 15,000 euros each.
Cabuli earlier in the year dropped some of his previous demands, such as that the author and publisher should receive harsher punishment because “Cabuli is a citizen of Argentina,” according to Ilta-Sanomat.
Like Kustannus Oy CEO Päivi Isosaari and Ollila deny the charges and stand behind the 380-page book, which chronicles NIGHTWISH‘s rise to the status of one of the most successful symphonic metal acts in the world, including the circumstances that led to the departure of Turunen. Isosaari and Ollila insist that they had good reason to believe that the claims of the book were true and they intend to call Ollila‘s sources, including several influential music-business figures, as their witnesses.
“Well, I did read the text and I authorized it to be published and therefore I stand behind the book,” Isosaari told Ilta-Sanomat in a 2009 interview.
Turunen was fired from NIGHTWISH a year before the book was published.
In his 2006 review of the book, Jarkko Jokelainen of Helsingin Sanomat wrote, “The book points the finger [for the split with Tarja] most firmly in the direction of Marcelo Cabuli, husband and personal manager of the band’s former vocal soloist Tarja Turunen. With every turning page, the charges against the Argentine Cabuli get heavier and heavier.
“The portrait of Marcelo Cabuli depicts a money-grasping, less-than-honest, arbitrary, and manipulative manager who was engaged on setting up his wife’s solo career and who drove a wedge between her and the other members of the power metal band.
“NIGHTWISH‘s contractual dealings and touring plans became a painful exercise, as there was ‘a Hispanic in the works’ at every turn.
“Against this background, it is somewhat awkward that the defendant himself does not get a hearing in the book, even though the other sources close to the band are given full rein to open their hearts and mouths. Not even Tarja Turunen gets to comment on her husband’s doings.
“It is probable that the decision is the couple’s own, but this does not disguise the fact that it is the book’s greatest drawback. The author Marko ‘Mape’ Ollila has sought to be even-handed in his coverage, but in part for the reasons above, this band-history inevitably becomes a speech on behalf of the male members of the group and other figures in the background.
“NIGHTWISH would seem on the basis of this work to have been so divided into two distinct camps that both sides of the story cannot be fitted between the covers of one book.”
Bazillion Points Books is offering a free download of “Chapter 5. The Upward Spiral”, excerpted from the North American edition of “Once Upon a Nightwish: The Official Biography 1996-2006”, by Mape Ollila.
Joining the book in progress at the start of 2000 during the aftermath of “Oceanborn”, this chapter gives inside perspective on events including NIGHTWISH‘s early gigs with RAGE and future bassist Marco Hietala‘s early band SINERGY; singer Tarja Turunen‘s bloody battles with mosquitoes in the wilds of Finland; the band and chief songwriter Tuomas Holopainen‘s rarely discussed and ill-fated flirtation with the Eurovision song contest; and the creation of what would ultimately be the breakthrough “Wishmaster” CD.
The sample chapter can be downloaded from Bazillion Points Books at this location.
“Once Upon a Nightwish: The Official Biography 1996-2006” has reportedly sold 11,000 copies since its 2006 release.
A two-and-a-half-minute teaser for the first official product by former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen‘s new project HARUS can be seen below.
It’s widely known that Tarja‘s music background is in classical music. She later became one of the most important female voices of metal, first as part of multi-million seller NIGHTWISH and later with her successful solo career, carrying her own name.
After two gems of heavy rock, Tarja can finally go back to her “first love” for a while. The new live CD and DVD shows a side of Tarja‘s music personality that so far was only enjoyed by the lucky fans attending her classical music concerts.
The first output of HARUS features traditional and emotional music from Finland presented together with more international repertoire. If Tarja‘s vocal approach when it comes to rock music is “classical”, what stands out in this new musical adventure is the modern approach to classical music.
Tarja Turunen and HARUS created a unique blend of organ, electric guitar, percussion and voice. Tarja has the talent to make it sound warm and soft, appealing for the purists as well as for the fans who follow her with a unique dedication.
Besides Tarja‘s metal superstar status, HARUS represents the start of a new journey, crossing genres and music cultures. HARUS is a rather peculiar, uncommon Finnish word that describes the four tensors that keep a tent together or the tensor that keeps the mast from falling in a sailing boat. Both of the meanings apply to the musicians involved in Tarja‘s new project: four members, four equals, four different backgrounds to tie together exquisite classical music developed strongly and in a very stable way, with a taste of experimental, modern feel.
Tarja has declared: “In 2006 we did our first concert together. We had such a joy and fun that we decided to keep on performing as a group. The name
came many years after when we believed it is time to make it official. What
is special in HARUS is that every concert represents a magic moment. We have the freedom to be inspired by our own emotions. We hope to be able to offer you that spirit with this CD/DVD.”
The international release date for the live CD is November 25. The audio/video bundles (CD/DVD and CD/Blu-ray) will hit stores one week later (December 2).

Tarja Turunen has announced a collaboration with designer label Nordenfeldt. As a part of this, the young designer label Nordenfeldt will not only be providing clothes, accessorees and shoes for Tarja, but also design an exclusive stage outfit for her next album artwork.
Tarja, who is famous for her voice and her combination of various music styles, is also a fashion icon. Tarja fascinates especially on stage with her elegant, but also extravagant clothes.
“Music is the main part of my performance, but every musician knows that there is also visual part of music, especially on stage,” Tarja states. “I am always trying to find clothes for this visual aspect that are special, but that also represent me and my style. Therefore Nordenfeldt fits perfectly.”
The young design label Nordenfeldt, founded by German-Finnish designer Julia Trompert, wants to provide functional, though fashionable clothes that combine a strong sense of creativity, innovation and strive for the ideal.
With their first collections the label got attention from various media and the fashion scene. The focus of Nordenfeldt is to embody armour for the city by recapturing the essence of mythical Nordic era. The designer explains the decision for the collaboration with Tarja: “Next to being an incredible artist, Tarja Turunen embodies the mysterious aura and the style of our designs. She needs wearable outfits, especially on stage, that still look elegant and have an extravagant twitch. That is exactly what Nordenfeldt wants to create for its customers.”
The creation of an outfit for the singer was also an inspiration for the designer.
“Creating fashion is an ongoing process. You can get input from every aspect in your life,” Julia Trompert says. “When Tarja asked us to design an outfit for her, my answer was a straight ‘yes’ and the ideas came immediately; we only had to take the necessities into consideration that arise when she will be performing in that outfit.”
