Kelle Rhoads told The Metal Voice about the origins of the piece Dee and how the record label did not want that piece on the Blizzard of Ozz album.” Rhoads said, “First of all it goes deeper than that, there is a Quiet Riot song called Laughing Gas and most of Dee is in the guitar solo. So what Randy did was make it into a classical composition and then the record company said we don’t really think that that belongs on Blizzard of Oz. And Ozzy Osbourne went to bat for Randy and said if Randy wants this on the album it stays.”

When asked about his new album and new DVD Documentary
“Return of the Thunder Hawk is coming out on DVD April 26 and it will be a complement to the new album ‘Hammer of Justice’. This is gonna be a package you buy the CD you get a DVD, plus there’s going to be screenings across North America of the documentary and also in Europe and the festivals. The musical direction will be power metal with sing-along choruses like when you’re in the arena and you want everybody to sing with you, like the Vikings would do it back in the day when they were going into battle. The new album musical style will have lots of heavy rifts I think when you hear the songs on Hammer of Justice you’ll say there are incredible powerful metal riffs that will hit you right in the face. ”
When asked about his meeting and playing to Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin
“We signed to Doug Smith on a management deal as he was blown away by our show in New York in the 1983. Doug Smith also managed Motorhead, Gilrschool and Tank. Smith said to us he can break us in England during the release of the Thor album Unchained .Early 1984 we played the Marquee Club in London and Jimmy Page was in the audience and he said to me afterwards, very good Jon. I think he was a little plastered at the time when I met him cause during the after party and I saw him sleeping, with his head on the table.”
When asked about his time competing with Arnold Schwarzenegger
“Before music I was exposed to the bodybuilding scene, I used to come down to the US from Canada in the 1970’s to train at Gold’s gym on Venice beach and Arnold Schwarzenegger used to train at the same time. I’ll tell you a story I was 18 at a competition and I see a big crowd back stage and Arnold is posing and I look closer and Arnold is getting sucked off by one of the contestants ( Miss World) and Joe Weider says to him , what are you doing Arnold and Arnold said I’m pumping up.”
Jimmy Kay from Canada’s The Metal Voice spoke to guitarist frontman of StryperMichael Sweet. Sweet spoke about his upcoming solo album, his upcoming Stryper Greatest Hits & Covers That Influenced Our Generation tour, how new bassist Perry Richardson is fitting in and a health update on Oz Fox.
Watch the interview here:
When asked about his upcoming Stryper’s Greatest Hits & Covers That Influenced Our Generation tour
“We decided that we wanted to put together a set that kind of showcases our roots and where we come. We made The Covers album and that was an album that kind of showcased where our musical history lies, so we wanted to take that a step further and kind of make a tour out of it. We’re are doing roughly 10-11 covers mixed in with Stryper songs. Maybe mix it up a little bit like one night we’ll play this cover and the next night we’ll play a different cover maybe one night do a Scorpion’s tune the next night do a Maiden tune or the next night do a Cheap Trick tune or Black Sabbath.”
When asked if Stryper will get slack from their Christian fanbase for playing Black Sabbath songs
“I think our Christian base expects us to do Christian based songs, the funny thing is though if you really dive into Black Sabbath and you get into their lyrics and the history of the lyrics you realize that they are based on a lot of them are based on Christianity and based on a belief in God in Christ. I know the Geezer Butler wrote a lot of those lyrics, After Forever is a song that we covered and you read those lyrics, those are lyrics that Stryper could have written. Of course Black Sabbath the name kind of sets it up as evil but when you get into it you realize that they weren’t necessarily speaking out for evil, no they were they were just speaking out against evil in a lot of their lyrics. In the song War pigs people hear the line Satan laughing spreads his wings and they think oh my god this is so evil and you read the rest of the lyric you know it’s not.”
When asked about the Stryper set list on upcoming tour
“The tricky part is is we have now we’ve built up quite a catalogue so it makes it tough to do everything that everyone wants to hear. We got to do the classics yeah you know songs like To Hell With The Devil and Always There For You, Calling on you and Soldiers Under Command, there are certain songs that are staples in the set. We’re doing a lot of the classics and we’re doing some new songs, 10 or 11 Stryper songs and then 10 or 11 covers.
When ask about how it was coming along with new bass player Perry Richardson
“Oh gosh we keep saying to ourselves where were you in 1984 and you know obviously he was doing other things. Perry, he’s our guy man I don’t know what else to say he he’s such a perfect fit for us in all areas and he’s just such a good guy man I don’t know what else to say. Perry has been so refreshing and you know he’s just got this spirit about him where you never have to worry. You never have to worry with Perry in the sense of knowing his parts, if you give him a set list a month before rehearsal, you know he’s gonna be ready. Yeah you never have to worry about him performing you know he’s gonna go onstage and give his all and smile and have a good time. You never have to worry about him as a person, you know being nasty or doing bad things or saying bad things you just never have to worry about that. Perry all around is just a an amazing guy, an amazing musician and a team player and we’re so honored and proud to have him. I’ve said this before I’ll say it again I’ll keep saying it, it would be interesting to see the history of Stryper if Perry Richardson was in the band back in the day. Yeah it would have been would have been very interesting to see.”
When asked about his upcoming new solo album 10
“It’s finished, it’s called Ten, it’s being mastered right now and then we’re gonna start laying out a plan for videos and and songs. I got to do photo shoot in about five weeks I think it is six weeks. The album’s now going to come out September 2019, we were shooting for a little earlier June or July release but that just wasn’t in the cards for a number of reasons. We don’t want to rush anything but I can tell you this it’s called Ten because it’s my tenth album and because there is a title track on there about the 10 commandments, a really really powerful song, real heavy, it smacks you in the face and it ends like kicking you in the gut. It’s really cool man. I’ve got a different player on every song and it started out where I was gonna have just a few players and then I thought you know it would be really interesting to bring in a different guy on every song. I started putting names out there and reaching out to people and they started agreeing to do it and then I had guys reaching out to me.”
When asked about how Oz Fox’s health
“He’s doing good he changed his diet in his lifestyle and he’s feeling better, he’s lost some weight, he’s in a good place right now. Obviously they’re still keeping tabs on the situation has a couple spots on his brain and they’re just keeping an eye on it.”
Other guest musicians who will appear on Sweet’s new disc include guitarists Joel Hoekstra (WHITESNAKE, NIGHT RANGER), Jeff Loomis (ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE), Marzi Montazeri (EXHORDER, PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS), Gus G. (FIREWIND, OZZY OSBOURNE) and Andy James.
STRYPER’s latest album, “God Damn Evil”, was released in April 2018 via Frontiers Music Srl.
Jimmy Kay From Canada’s The Metal Voice spoke to URIAH HEEP guitarist Mick Box. Mick spoke about the upcoming North American tour as a special guest with JUDAS PRIEST, being inducted into the Hall of Heavy Metal History in Connecticut, on stage, on May 16 2019 by CEO Pat Guesaldo and Rock author Martin Popoff. Box also spoke about touring memories with Rush and Kiss back in the 70’s
Watch the interview here:
URIAH HEEP have sold over 45 million million albums, worldwide performed over 4,000 shows in some 61 countries.
When asked about being inducted into the Hall of Heavy Metal History at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut USA
“It’s just amazing you know, I think any award or accolade you get is wonderful and we’ll accept it with open arms my friend. It’s a great honor, it’s the fans that put us there in the first place so you know we’re absolutely delighted and course I’ve known Martin Popoff for quite a while now, he’s done lots of work for so many years. Martin even just did our latest bio so it will be really good to catch up with him.”
When asked about their latest album Living the Dream and it’s reception
“Fans and critics love it and we play about seven songs from it in our set list alongside the classics. We love playing the new songs it revitalized us and the fans but the reaction has been just absolutely tremendous and a lot of people have been saying you know it’s one of the best of our career. ”
When asked about Touring with Rush in the 70’s on Neil Peart’s first show and did he think that Rush were a force to be reckon with in years to come
“Yeah that was Neil Peart’s first show with Rush, we gave Rush our audience and they took it by the throat. I think in the early days Geddy was getting the Robert Plant comparisons because he’s got a high voice so in that respect it was a kind of of Downer but you know they got through all of that and came out stronger, And yes it was very obvious they were going to be a force to be reckoned with especially being a 3-piece, my goodness they really kicked backside as we say in England.”
When asked about Kiss opening for Uriah Heep and if there were any cool stories
“Kiss did come out with over-the-top costumes but they certainly had a look about them that was just unbelievable like they’ve coming from another planet. Peter was a prankster on tour, Criss had a habit of putting dyes into into swimming pools, lots of pranks went on yeah it was a good fun.”
When asked about Lee Kerslakes contributions to Uriah Heep over the years
“We were headhunting Lee for a couple of years and we kept asking him and asking him and then suddenly he thought well okay let’s give it a go. It was just a powerhouse it was exactly what we were looking for to cement the band and then when Gary Thames came in those two cemented that rhythm section, we knew our engine room was complete. Lee and I are brothers with different mothers we’re always been found each other, I’m always phoning him and we go out to dinner occasionally. I actually got him up on stage when we played London recently which was really cool. Hopefully Lee can join us for one show that we’re headlining in the Czech Republic, the 12th of July I think I, we are trying to fly him out .”
When asked about Randy Rhoads love for Demons and Wizards
“I think demons touched a lot of people and I think Randy was no exception who really knows good music. I went down to see Bob Daisley play with the Blizzard band, it was quite evident that you know Randy was something special right there jaw-dropping stuff, even the rehearsals. I thought that it was a very powerful band and then I saw him playing with Ozzy and in England and it was great. Why the band (Blizzard of Ozz band ) ever broke that up I’ll never know as long as I can never understand, it was such a strong entity with that chemistry and it’s all about chemistry and they would have gone on to soar and do even greater things. ”
The band’s 25th studio album, “Living The Dream”, was released last September via Frontiers Music Srl
Box is the original guitarist and sole remaining founding member of URIAH HEEP. He, vocalist Bernie Shaw and keyboardist/vocalist Phil Lanzon have formed the nucleus of the band for more than 32 years and released 17 albums together.

Jimmy Kay from The Metal Voice talks to legendary drummer Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, Blue Murder) and singer Jim Crean (Hair Nation, Appice Brothers) about Vinnie Vincent‘s Nashville’s show cancellations claims on February 8-9 2019. Carmine and Crean correct Vincent’s claims on why the show were cancelled and who cancelled them.
Watch the show here:
When asked about the recent claims by Vinnie Vincent that his promoter was to blame for the recent cancellations of the show in Nashville and Vincent’s disapproval of the choice in singer
“The promoter did nothing but try his best to make these gigs happen. The promoter Derek Christopher hired me because I knew Vinnie and I talked to Vinnie and we said maybe it would be cool if I did the gigs with him and Vinnie Vincent agreed. Derek hired me and put the deal together, then I brought bassist Tony Franklin in whom Vinnie never heard of before. Then they were going through tons of singers and I said I have this guy names Jim Crean that can sing high just like the original Vinnie Vincent invasion singer Robert Fleischman. I told Jim Crean about it and he was up for it. Then Derek said why don’t you put Jim Crean’s voice on a couple of Vinnie’s tracks and he would send it to Vinnie and see what he thinks and that’s what we did. And from what I remember Vinnie said to the promoter Derek that he thought Jim Crean was great. So we were moving ahead and waiting for a set list and then when we never got any set list from Vinnie so the promoter sent me, Jim and Tony some lists of songs, which included Vinnie’s songs and Kiss Songs and I thought that was what we were going to do and then Vinnie started to steer away. And I said to Vinnie, I saw that clip of you playing that Pre-Kiss cruise clip you did not look comfortable on stage, you looked scared and I blatantly said can you still play? You didn’t do any solos? Vinnie said to me yeah I can still play. Then later on Vinnie said I don’t want to do any Kiss songs or my songs I just want to jam for an hour and a half after he just put out a press release with the promoter saying I’m gonna do Kiss songs, Vinnie Vincent songs, this is him verbally saying that on the ad. Then he changed his mind on that and said he just wanted to jam. Quite honestly I don’t want to jam, I don’t want to go on the stage and jam. I want to play songs people want to come and hear. As for choosing Jim Crean as the singer, I was working behind the scenes getting Jim Crean to sing demo songs for Vinnie so he can hear what he sounds like. Derek the promoter said Vinnie was fine with him, Derek had no reason to lie about it so we were going to move ahead.” Carmine Appice
“Derek called me and wanted me to sing some of Vinnie’s songs so I did that, they got back to Vinnie and they said he was very impressed with it. Derek called me the day after he talked to Vinnie and said that Vinnie was very happy with the vocals and he loves it and we are going to make a press announcement and put a poster up as well. Then Derek called me up and said to me to please start sharing the information to get a buzz going so then we started promoting it and then Vinnie started changing his mind.” Jim Crean
When asked about Vinnie Vincent’s statement “There’s only one uncontroverted fact that actually did happen, and that is that I, Vinnie Vincent, did not cancel that show”
“The cancellations came from Vinnie he did not want to do the gig. I gave Vinnie three other singers to pick from but Vinnie did not like them and Vinnie said Jim Crean was good. Then Vinnie to blame it all on Derek the promoter who is the nicest guy and is now really ill since all of this happened is bad. Derek has not been able to stand up for himself because he has been really ill, in and out of the hospital. The last thing on his mind is Vinnie Vincent right now, he is trying to get healthy. And to see Vinnie saying it’s Derek’s fault, it wasn’t his fault. Derek the promoter did everything he can to make these gig happen. Vinnie is saying it’s Derek’s fault I’m saying it’s not his fault, Derek did everything and beyond to make things happen, to keep it on track. Derek brought Vinnie out of hiding, he put together that Kiss expo that Vinnie came out on, that made Vinnie money, Vinnie didn’t do that Derek did that.” Carmine Appice
When asked why Jim Crean was one of the scapegoats
“I don’t think Vinnie Vincent should be blaming me, I was there just trying to help him out. I came into the band late and Carmine is a very high profile artist and so is Tony Franklin so I guess that leaves me and the promoter to blame. “ Jim Crean
