When asked how Steve Grimmett’s recovery was coming along (11:50 mark)
“It’s going really good, I’m in training now getting my new leg (prosthetic), which I should have in about 4 weeks time. Then I can only put it on and take it off until I go to the Swindon hospital, where I am having my therapy and they will teach me how to walk. I know that is not easy and I know there is a lot of pain involved, I’m up for that, let’s get going. I’m still living on the ground floor at my house cause I can’t get up the stairs but that’s ok. I’m waiting for a company to install a chair lift and they make doors and bathroom wider so I can take a shower cause I haven’t had a shower since this happened, I fucken stink (laughs) I do wash.”
When asked when Steve would be returning to the stage for his first performance (14:20)
“We got a show in the middle of July 2017, in Germany at the Bang you head Festival, we are going to play whatever happens cause we have committed to it now but my team thinks that they can get me ready for that, which would be fantastic if not I will do it in a wheelchair. ”
When asked if Grim Reaper will be releasing a live album anytime soon (15:47)
“I do have a live album in the can, I got it ready to mix, I may start on that in a couple of months time, mix it and get it out (last tour of the United States).”
When asked about a new album and a new book (18:56)
“Ian Nash (guitar) and I, in the next couple of weeks are going to start the new album. I’m writing a book too that has taken a little bit of my time and it won’t be a normal sex drugs and rock and roll. It will be about this experience and some sex drugs and rock and roll (laughs). It’s going to be about losing of the leg and telling diabetics to shape up cause this could happen to them too.”
Live Stream tomorrow, April 1st, at 1pm EST (6pm GMT, 7pm CET) with Steve & Millie Grimmett at their home before leaving to Riff’s Bar in Swindon where there will be an all day Fundraiser show to aid with recovery and medical costs for the Grimmetts.

The documentary aims to capture the brotherhood, the Riot legacy, the music and the continuation of Riot V.”
Giles Lavery concluded, “The story of Riot is one of the most unique and inspiring in the history of hard rock and heavy metal, the story has many twists and turns along the way, but the songs were and are always at forefront as some of the best in hard rock and heavy metal.”
RIOT V’s debut”Unleash The Fire”, was released in October 2014 . The CD marked the first release from RIOT without the late, great founding guitarist Mark Reale, who passed away in 2012 due to complications of Crohn’s disease . The Metal Voice episode is a tribute celebration of the life of Randy Rhoads who died on March 19 1982 in a tragic airplane crash while on tour with Ozzy Osbourne.
When asked if there were any un-released video material of Randy Rhoads
“Not that were aware of and according to Sharon Osbourne no. I have to tell you that probably somewhere down the line somebody’s got something in their attic, that they filmed and they died so somebody else in their family probably has it. The same thing happened with classical composers, people found stuff that Mozart wrote 180 years after he wrote it, it was in somebody’s attic. I got a question that has never been satisfactory answered. Ozzy is a front man, he started Heavy Metal as far as I’m concerned, Ozzy puts a brand new band together and nobody shoots any video of that initial European tour? It doesn’t make any sense? So here is the answer to your question, not that I know of. Here is my personal opinion, there has got to be footage.” Kelle
When asked if Randy Rhoads would have continued on the path of Heavy Metal
“I get asked that a lot and there is no way to know who knows what he would have done? ” Kellie
“Randy really loved Classical music and had a passion going in that direction, my belief is he would have done something in between Classical and Heavy Metal. ” Kathy
“Randy could play anything if he heard a Polka he would learn how to play it, if he heard Hawaiian music he would learn how to play it, he didn’t want any boundaries he didn’t want to be just a Heavy Metal musician and he was an absolute virtuoso. I think someone like him comes about every 200 years. People don’t generally have that kind of talent it is very extraordinary. Not only was he a great performer he was a virtuoso and he was a great writer. He didn’t write lyrics and he didn’t sing. When he was in Quiet Riot the management said he would have to have a mic in front of him but he made them turn it off. ” Kelle
When asked about his personnel life
“He loved trains, he had the smallest trains he could buy, he had to get them in Germany, the size of a walnut.” Kelle
“Randy was the kindest most humble person you would ever want to meet, he was genuine. ” Kelle
“Randy used to dress up the dog and put cigarettes in their mouth. The dog had Walkman earphones and a cigarettes in his mouth” Kelle
“Randy had a devious sense of humour.” Kelle
When asked if there were any music that was carried on from Quiet Riot to Ozzy Osbourne’s band
“You know there are somethings he wrote with Ozzy that were carried over from Quiet Riot, NO BONE MOVIES and YOU LOOKING AT ME LOOKING AT YOU. Those were cord structures that he had when we was in Quiet riot he just didn’t get to use them.”
For Canada’s The Metal Voice former ANTHRAX singer Neil Turbin caught up SAXON‘s frontman Biff Byford and guitarist Doug Scarratt at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles.

When asked about Details in regarding their up and coming new album
“On the next album we are going to do a duet with somebody, maybe, that’s quite hardcore with us. We have recorded 7 songs already, we are actually got 3 more songs and going to write 3 -4 more. I finished the vocals before we came on tour. We rent a studio while we are at the festivals, a week of studio. It will be produced by Andy Sneep. He has gone off to do Judas Priest while we are here and when we get back in September will continue, it will be out 2018, maybe January? I have done some about lyrics about Nosferatu the Bram Stoker thing (Vampire Count Orlok) a very dark song and I am also doing a Motothead song called “They Played Rock And Roll.”
When asked about how Saxon and Motorhead first tour together in 1979
“Our first tour of the UK, was our first tour ever was with Motorhead in 1979 and we had just written Wheels of Steel, it was about to come out . We used to go our every night 7pm on stage do our thing and Lemmy would come out after the show during their set and say you have to go out and buy Saxon;s albums, these guys are great. Lemmy helped us out a lot , with his stamp of approval, it was nice of him. Lemmy was intelligent, well read and had a great sense of humour.”
When asked about his recollections of Lemmy’s death
“Lemmy was ill,he was actually iller on the American leg than in Europe leg (Saxon / Motorhead tour). We finished the tour Scandinavia in December and we all said good bye, Christmas break and we were suppose to start again in January and he died before . I don’t think he expected to die cause he was feeling a little bit better he was told he got cancer in the brain and it wasn’t long after that he died. He sent me a text message a couple of days before he died saying he thought the tour was great and the next thing I knew someone phoned me up and said Lemmy was gone. It was bit of a shock. He went in the Lemmy style, he didn’t linger in a hospital, he died with his boots on.
When asked if he would reunite with former Saxon band members in festival situation
“NO, not in this universe. I have to be loyal to the guys (current band), they have been longer in the band then then the former members were. I wound’t see any point. We were already headlining huge festivals so what would be the point. It would be alright for our fans I understand that but our fans have moved on to the new Saxon as it stands now.”
Jimmy Kay from Canada The Metal Voice recently spoke to NIGHT RANGER guitarist (Ex Ozzy Osbourne) Brad Gillis about his time with Ozzy during the recording of Speak of the devil and Night Rangers new album Don’t let Up which will be released on March 24, 2017 on Frontiers.

When asked on his audition for Ozzy Osbourne
“I saw Ozzy play in 1981 in Oakland California with Randy and I was pretty much blown away by Ozzy and Randy and those records coming out so I was playing a couple of songs in my set list with my band.”
“In 1982 I was playing around the Bay Area, doing a lot of cover songs. I remember driving down the road in ’82 and hearing about the plane crash with Randy in it and it pretty much freaked me out because my dad was a pilot and I flew all the time with my Dad, it just seemed like a tragic loss. I was playing later that night and did a little tribute to Randy and there was this guy in the audience that say me play and his name was Preston Thrall. Preston said to me do you want me to let them know (Osbourne camp), you might want to audition. I said sure but thought everybody in the world would want that gig. Preston told Pat Thrall and Pat told Tommy Aldridge and Tommy told Sharon and sure enough I got a call two days later from Sharon and I thought someone was screwing with me, so I said put Ozzy on the phone. I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and I was shaking and he listed 18-19 songs and I wrote them all down.”
“I flew to New York on a one way ticket and $150 dollars in my pocket, no credit cards. Ozzy was playing Madison Square Gardens that night and Bernie Torme was the interim guitar player. I get a call from the road manager and he said hey you want to come up to the suite and meet Ozzy. Ozzy said go get your guitar and I said Ozzy I don’t have an amplifier and he said go get your guitar. I came back to the room with it and I sat on the end of the bed and Ozzy said what song do you want to play and I said lets do Flying High Again , I’m playing with no amplifier and Ozzy is singing and Ozzy stood up and gave me a big hug and he said Brad thank you for helping me out, I love you and he walked out looked out and said I found my new guitar player.”
When asked about the pressure of playing with Ozzy in 1982, replacing Randy Rhoads and Bernie Torme
“I was on the road for four days and I practiced in my room with a live cassette that they gave me from a board mix of Randy Rhoads and with a little amplifier and I leaned the songs everyday and I would go to the shows and watch the show. I remember the first night going in sitting at the soundboard watching the show I thought, with the big castle and all that stuff going on, sold out every night and I thought OMG I am going to be up there soon and it kind of freaked me out, it was a very scary scenario I was in. On that firth day I told them I was ready and I did my first show. ”
“Rudy even told me, what Ozzy told him that it was hard for him looking over and not seeing Randy next to him and it was hard for him to accept another guitar player. I felt a lot of pressure not only from the somber mood of the band but with the audience a couple of kids were flipping me off and it was a real tough scene for me playing those shows. Then two weeks into the tour we did a live broadcast throughout the states and after that live broadcast everybody heard it, all of a sudden I started to get a little love from people.”
When asked if Ozzy started picking on him on tour as stated in Rudy Sarzo’s book Off The Rails
(Rudy Sarzo’s book pg 268 it wasn’t until one month after the crash that Ozzy began to enter the anger stage. At this point Ozzy began drinking heavily again and started acting resentful towards Brad and urged Sharon to look for another guitatrist. it was rather disturbing to watch Brad , who was doing such a great job, being verbally abused by an inebriated Ozzy)
“Ozzy never really picked on me, it was all good, Ozzy actually encouraged me and was glad I was helping him out. The only problem for me was towards the end of the tour that is when we recorded Speak of the Devil record. Rudy Sarzo decided to leave and go to Quiet Riot and I had an offer to go back to Night Ranger that had a pending record deal and then Ozzy started getting a little defensive towards me and it got kind of weird and rough. I rolled the dice and I left and came with Night Ranger and sure enough we got our record deal and here I am today with the same band Night Ranger 35 years later releasing a new album and touring all over the country, we are going to Japan pretty soon.”
When asked if he would record another album with Ozzy Osbourne again
“Sure I would go in and do a record with Ozzy Osbourne, no problem. the problem that would be is that Night Ranger is my top priority. You got to realize that Ozzy has let go 6 guitarists since I left the band. I kind of like the idea that I am with a band that I am with a band that has longevity”
When asked if Night Ranger was pushed into being to be a ballad band after the success of Sister Christian from the record company
“I came from a hard Rock and roll background, when we released SISTER CHRISTIAN it was such a massive hit that the record companies felt well this is their niche, so they ended up releasing ballad after ballad, cause we really had no say on what they released. By 1989 it got to the point where we were kind of tired of it all, touring 200 plus shows a year we saw our audience dwindling. we were losing our male audience hard rockers and that’s when we decided to break up in 1989, we just needed a break. Then we got back together in late 1995 and that’s when it started moving again.”
Frontiers Music Srl will release “Don’t Let Up”, the new studio album from NIGHT RANGER, on March 24 2017.
Night Ranger has sold worldwide 17 million albums, have played over 3000 live shows and more than 1 billion in radio audience, NIGHT RANGER is proof that powerful songs, plus accomplished musicians is the perfect formula for continued success.
