June 11th 2021 saw THIS ENDING returning with a true melodic death metal masterpiece called “Needles of Rust”. Nine songs of apocalyptic, brutal yet catchy melodic death metal back to the roots of what was done earlier in A CANOROUS QUINTET. From said album, the band has now released a brand new lyric video for the track “Hell to Hell”.
The band comments:
“We are launching a new lyric video for the track ‘Hell To Hell’ from our latest album ‘Needles Of Rust’. While the good news is the CD is running low in stock. The bad news is that our vinyl release got yet another blow to the head and got pushed forward to June late. This is devastating but sadly out of our hands. However, in light of the tragic events, we decided to let out this beautiful video made by the amazingly talented Tamara of Aimed & Framed.“
“Needles of Rust” was recorded, mixed and mastered at Wing Studios by Sverker Widgren. To give the album cover the necessary atmosphere Björn Gooßes of Killustrations was hired once again (as on the previous album “Garden of Death”) to take care of the artwork and layout. The album is out now on Black Lion Records.
Swedish Melodic Death Metallers THIS ENDING have launched a previously unreleased demo ‘Let The World Burn’.
The band has issued the following info regarding their new release.
A late evening in the end of 2004, 3 old friends met up, namely Fredrik Anderson, Linus Nirbrant and Mårten Hansen. They started to talk about unfinished business. This unfinished business was started in 1991 and went on until 1998 and these friends had played together under the banner of A Canorous Quintet. A venture that did not end completely on terms under the band’s control.
The discussion awoke an urge to make a new musical journey together. It was decided that they should talk to the rest of the old squad. They also shared the urge to do something new together. Thus This Ending was born, but under the banner of The Plague. The five piece now consisting of Fredrik Anderson – drums, Linus Nirbrant – guitar, Leo Pignon – guitar, Jesper Löfgren – bass and Mårten Hansen – vocals, started to tread new ground musically. They soon came to realise that this musical endeavour held newfound energy and also a new edge to the sound, compared to A Canorous Quintet. Songs were written, and three of these songs were chosen to be recorded for a demo entitled Let the world burn.
The demo was published online and rendered the attention of Metal Blade records. Shortly thereafter This Ending at the time named The Plague got an offer from Metal Blade. But before signing the deal Metal Blade asked if a name change was possible. This was asked since Metal Blade recently had signed another act with the name 7th plague. The result was a name change to This Ending.
Now for the first time this rare piece of This Ending history is one again made public. This time re-mastered by Linus Nirbrant. These demo versions of the songs were later on re-recorded for the critically acclaimed This Ending debut album Inside the Machine. The demo will be released as a strictly limited digipak on CD. Limited to 300 copies.
CD is available to purchase along with digital copy at Bandcamp store!

Stockholm melodeath group THIS ENDING stream the title track, “Needles of Rust,” off of their impending fourth record. This is the first album where the Swedish band did not get the service of Fredrik Andersson (A Canorous Quintet, ex: Amon Amarth) behind the drum kit; Peter Nagy (Mörk Gryning, A Canorous Quintet), who served as the second guitarist of the band, stepped in to take Fredrik’s throne. Needles of Rust is slated for worldwide release on May 28th via Black Lion Records on Digipak CD, Cassette, and digital formats.
The band offers on the track “Needles of Rust”: “This was the first song written after we decided it was time for a new This Ending. We had no idea that this would also turn out to be the title track. Here Linus N. tried to write a song that combined the old This Ending sound with our roots back in the ‘90s. It became an insane song that I think defines our sound. We also get some backing vocals from Peter on this one. The lyrical theme for this one revolves around people who exploit others’ weaknesses for personal gain.”
CD, cassette, t-shirt, and digital pre-orders of the album are live AT THIS LOCATION on Bandcamp.

Formed in 2005, This Ending emerged from the ashes of A Canorous Quintet, one of the earliest players of the melodeath scene. Following the dissolution of A Canorous Quintet, the members went on to join (October Tide, Amon Amarth) or form (Guidance of Sin) other bands, and finally, after 07 years of break, the members from the last active lineup reached a conclusion to start a new era and write music freely escaping from any expectations. And thus, they decided to function under a new moniker.
This Ending’s demo, Let the World Burn, released in 2006, paved the way for sealing a deal with Metal Blade Records, who would later issue the group’s first two albums: Inside the Machine and Dead Harvest. Earning accolades from the fans and the critiques alike, these two albums cemented This Ending’s position strongly in the metal underground. The next couple of years saw a few changes in the lineup, the Systematic Worship EP (in 2012), and the celebrated Garden of Death album (in 2016). A European tour and a slew of shows were followed by the third album.
The drummer Fredrik Andersson parted ways with the band when the new album, Needles of Rust, was almost completed. The leaving of Fredrik had indeed put the band in a complex situation, but fortunately, they already had the dexterous Peter Nagy, who joined the ranks as the second guitarist. Peter Nagy had already been playing drums in Mörk Gryning, so he quickly accepted the challenge to replace Fredrik behind the drums.
Needles of Rust deals with different kinds of nightmare scenarios: some songs are loosely based on actual events that have happened all over the world, whereas the other numbers are just about nightmares as an overall phenomenon. The album contains eight original songs, plus the remixed version of the 2019’s single “The Hunted” as a bonus track in the physical formats. On this record, This Ending continues blending relentless aggression and absolute darkness into their grandiose melodeath dreamscape.

This Ending about :Eclipse of the Dead: This is an old song that was first written 10 years ago by Linus N. We have tried to make it work for years and finally it has found the shape it needed. This was one of the first songs originally written after our second album Dead Harvest. We also have guest vocals on this one from Gord courtesy of Darkened. The lyrics deal partly with the issues of environmental destruction and how many ignore their part in this. It also revolves around the issue of accepting the easy answers without question, to blindly trust the so-called leaders.

Sweden’s Melodic Death Metallers THIS ENDING, formerly known as A CANOROUS QUINTET, have released a new lyric video for ‘Annihilate’, the first track from their new album ‘Needles Of Rust’, coming May 28th.
The band issued the following on ‘Annihilate’: This was the first song Linus Nirbrant wrote after the garden of death album. Another vicious thrashy song to bang your head to.The lyrics deal with the topic of neglect and how we as humans sometimes destroy what’s around us like we were some kind of gods. But also how we turn our blind eye to what’s happening to the world and to people around us.

Black Lion Records is pleased to welcome two new acts to its roster family: Swedish Melodic Death metallers THIS ENDING & Armenian Pagan folk Black Metallers ILDARUNI.
THIS ENDING was formed in 2005, from the ashes of A CANOROUS QUINTET. (A CANOROUS QUINTET, was formed in 1991 by Fredrik Andersson, Mårten Hansen and Linus Nirbrant). A CANOROUS QUINTET released one EP (As Tears) and two fullength albums (Silence of the world beyond and The only pure hate). A CANOROUS QUINTET was split up during 1998 for different reasons.)
In 2005 the time was right to do something together again and thus This Ending was formed. The reason for the name change was that This Ending wanted to be able to write music freely without expectations on how the music ”should” sound. During 2005 the demo ”Let the world burn” was recorded. This demo paved the way for releasing the first two albums (Inside the machine, Dead Harvest) on Metal Blade records. A few years passed and during this time long time bass player Jesper Löfgren left the band. In 2012 the EP ”Systematic worship” was recorded.
After the release of ”Systematic worship” Linus Pettersson joined This Ending to replace Jesper on bass. Incidently Linus Pettersson also had been a member of A Canorous guintet in the early days of the band. Gaining a new member and an old friend was great. But nothing good comes without something bad it seemed since long time band member and guitar player Leo Pignon decided to leave the band. After this alot of hard work was put in to make the best possible album and it was finally time in 2015 to once again enter the studio to record This Endings third album ”Garden of Death”.
This album was released through Apostasy records. ”Garden of Death” got great reviews and This Ending felt the need for a new second guitar player to be able to promote the album. Peter Nagy was contacted and had no hesitation to join This Ending. Several shows were made after this and a european tour to promote the album was done in 2017 together with Ablaze my sorrow and Bleeding Utopia. This Ending has kept on working on new songs and when the new album almost was complete drummer Fredrik Andersson decided to leave the band. This left This Ending in a situation that had to be resolved quickly. Luckily This Ending already had a solution within the band. Guitarist Peter Nagy is a skilled musician and have also played drums for many years. He has been the drummer on all Mörk Gryning albums except one. Peter was quick to accept the challenge and This Ending is excited to hear the result when they enter the studio in October 2020.
ILDARUNI came to existence in 2016, emerging as a raging force from the depths of the Armenian underground metal scene. Solidifying a permanent line-up, the band was fully focused on more live performances and started recording the first demo, ”Towards Subterranean Realms” which came to light on July, 2018 and met significant acclaim.
Musically, Ildaruni represents a blend of relentless, intense Black Metal and ancient folk melodies, forgotten from times immemorial. The lyrical themes explore the height of the Urartian domain, through the cognitive machinations of a bygone age and the esoteric apprehension of ancient pagan occultism. The ominous flame now burns stronger and the band is set to unleash its long-waited cryptic incantations.
Band’s comment: “We are very excited to announce our new collaboration with Swedish Black Lion Records for the release of our forthcoming album. A new chapter has begun for Ildaruni. We are looking forward to seeing the darkest seeds of our manifestation realized! More information is yet to be revealed!”
