12.09.2013 Denver, CO@ Marquis Theatre
Really awful weather outside. It’s raining all the time, for many hours already. Denver city was pretty much flooded so we had to drive around for a while to get to the venue. What’s more, something in the bus just stopped working properly so Ray had to find a mechanic to fix the problem. We arrive at the club two hours earlier though. Rain still pouring… Junkies and some weird looking people kept on asking for cigarettes (why me???). Smell of weed is all around… Since over a year it’s legal here in the city 😉 Fans started to gather by the club too. Steve “warned” us, that tonight will be good. And it was indeed! My old Friend Birgitt also appeared this evening bringing delicious cheese cake. We all tasted it after the show. Brian was singing “Sword of the Witcher” with us during soundcheck… Unfortunately we had to finish earlier because of curfew and there was no encore that evening. Too bad, ’cause response was really great! I also took a hot shower. Such a great thing…;) Then we took some pictures , signed some CDs, got some drinks and… went to bed. We stayed by the club till 6 AM, tho’ the club was dead. Ahh – one more thing. I got a gift from a Fan – a 1:72 scale “Tiger” tank model in awesome 3-colour camo. THX !!!

We started with a short visit at a local Guitar Center first. Nice choice of equipment…. and great prices indeed. In USA only 😉 Just after that we are at the club and things started to flow according to an old pattern: load out, soundcheck then lunch. We got buy-out money today so I took a walk alone and found a nice Japanese restaurant round a corner. I met Toni and Aaron from Vital Remains over there. I spent my meal in a nice company. Toni was talking about how he met Peter for the first time on tour in USA in 1993. Ages ago! Then I came back to the El Corazon club to check out Sacrificial Slaughter and Vital on stage. No mercy there! Time for us. Our show went pretty smooth. We played “God id Dead” for encore – like the day before. Then we packed our stuff and went to a local supermarket, 7eleven. Together with Gator we decided to buy a galon of whisky…so we did. The whisky tasting with all guys from bands and crew started quite late… but full steam ahead! It’s a day-off tomorrow so we can chill out a bit 😉
The journey to Seattle was pretty short – 5 hours or something, which left us some time to make a much needed trip to a music store to replace the drum skins and guitar strings and so on. Some of the old drum skins will be signed by us and others will be signed by Vital Remains and will be available on the merch stands from the Denver show onwards so get them before they’re gone! We spent a long time in the venue putting on the new drum skins and tuning everything and then finally we were ready to soundcheck, again with Ray behind the desk who again did a great job. All that was left was to grab a bite to eat and start the show! The crowd was pretty small, as it was late on a Monday night but they were really energetic so the atmosphere in the venue was awesome anyway! Sadly, the show in Caldwell had to be cancelled due to the venue closing down so after the show, we packed down and piled onto the bus to start our long journey to Denver.
I remember almost nothing from the first two days, because I was sleeping all the time. The trip to US was not as bad though. First two shows in Santa Ana and Oakland were pretty good indeed. California was waiting for Vader and we could feel it. Just after our gig in Oakland we moved to Portland. I woke up at 7 AM ! My bio clock must be f***d up! The whole morning I spent at chatting with our driver Ray. He’s kind of a freaky man and a really cool person. We have smoked a few cigarettes and were closing up to Portland slowly. At 4 AM we were at the place. I took my jogging suit with me on tour. It was about the time to put myself together. I was out for about 45 minutes. After I came back … Vader’s soundcheck was done. What can I say…Sorry guys! It was worth to get my body get on trail finally. We started our show very late this evening. Entering stage I noticed Ray behind mix desk. This Dude is a miracle man I guess 😉 I was impressed indeed. Sound was really good. After the show he informed me that he was working as a soundman already before. He is able to do monitors or other things on stage too. I really hope he can do sound for us on next shows as well and that wasn’t just a single performance. After Vader left stage we went to hotel for a long awaited … shower. Oh yes – it is about time after three days. See You in Seattle !!!!
