In anticipation of their upcoming Scandinavian run with labelmates SONATA ARCTICA, Swedish symphonic metallers TUNGSTEN have unveiled a new single, taken from their upcoming album “The Grand Inferno,” due on October 18, 2024 via Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM). Children’s voices from a world beyond introduce ‘Lullaby,’ an infectious track which turns into a driving, industrial-dominated hit song full of vengeance and regret. Its chilling vibe comes to life in another music video directed by TUNGSTEN guitarist/backing vocalist Niklas “Nick” Johansson.
TUNGSTEN declare, “It’s about a mother who sacrifices her own child to a herd of unknowing beings to stay forever young, but her story takes a dark turn as the child returns from the grave and brings revenge for the things she had done to her as the lullaby she sang for her child is sung forevermore by the child.”
About the music video recording they add, “The place we rented to film the band scenes for the music video was very strange and spooky. Small trees and bushes were growing on the third floor in a big warehouse room…green moss covered the ground…overall a fun but kinda nasty experience.”

The countdown to the release of their upcoming fourth “The Grand Inferno” is ticking mercilessly as Swedish symphonic metallers TUNGSTEN present their fans in the form of a new digital single and music video today. ‘Vantablack’ is nothing but a true headbanging song with a touch of Nordic folk music that leans more to the industrial side of the group, and with still eight additonal highly infectious tracks to be discovered, “The Grand Inferno” will be unleashed on October 18, 2024 via Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM).
Guitarist/backing vocalist Nick Johansson, who even filmed and directed the music video, says, “‘Vantablack’ is actually our oldest song. It was originally written in 2016 under the moniker ‘Strokkur,’ the band name we had before changing it to TUNGSTEN. A slightly different demo version of the song was recorded but never released. We wrote so many new songs for our debut album “We Will Rise,” so the song was simply forgotten until now.”
“A year ago we played the demo version of this song for Patrick, the president of our fan site on social media [‘Tungsten Fans Worldwide’] and he immediately insisted that we should do a proper recording of the song and include it on our next album. We loved the song ourselves, so we decided to do so as an homage to our friend who started the TUNGSTEN fan site. Thanks to him lots of TUNGSTEN friends have found each other around the world and started various TUNGSTEN fan sites in lots of different countries,” explains singer Mike Andersson the song’s history more detailed.

Symphonic metallers TUNGSTEN, the quartet consisting of ex-HAMMERFALL drummer Anders Johannson, his sons Karl (bass, keyboards) and Niklas (guitars), and singer Mike Andersson, caused quite a stir with their latest single ‘Walborg’: countless streams but also more than half a million YouTube view for its music video cement the piece’s grandeur. As fans became even more curious about what else the band had in the works, TUNGSTEN are pleased to bring some more light into the darkness: the aforementioned single was the very first appetizer of their forthcoming album “The Grand Inferno,” which is set for an October 18, 2024 release through Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM). The self-produced 11-song offering emerges as a testament to TUNGSTEN‘s relentless pursuit of sonic excellence. With a rich tapestry of heavy riffs and captivating melodies, the album showcases the band’s dynamic range and songwriting prowess.

Since October 18 still seems to be far away, the group give their supporters a second track of their upcoming album to enjoy today. ‘Blood Of The King’ has quite a heavy feel to it while rooting in the melodic lands of Nordic folk music. The band’s symphonic trademark elements round off the single and make fans even more eager for the arrival of “The Grand Inferno” this autumn.
Anders recalls the song’s creation, “It starts with a heavy riff and then it goes into a more commercial power metal song. Karl wrote most of the song, but I was also involved composing the intro theme.”
Karl adds, “The music is mostly based on the drum beat in the intro. Anders and I were jamming in our rehearsal studio. Anders came up with this drum beat and I just joined in. This later became the main riff of the song. The chorus of this song comes from a dream I had. I immediately recorded the melody on my phone when I woke up. The lyrical theme of the song is about our own heritage. The last couple of years Anders has been very interested in genealogy and found that we have Viking genes so that is what the song is about. One can say that it’s about our heritage.”
The official music video was shot at a cinema and surprises with TUNGSTEN mascot Volfram appearing in a guest role.
Vocalist Mike says, “We decided to ask our multi-talent and guitar slinger, Nick Johansson, to handle the filming of the music video. All of us added ideas for the video and its story. At first, we talked about doing a video more like ‘Northern Lights’ from our “Bliss” album with vikings considering the lyrical theme of the song. Someone mentioned that it would be cool to film it in a cinema. Eventually all of us started to brainstorm ideas to make the video the way we wanted with enough material for Nick to create and direct a cool video.”
“I wanted to direct the video, so it would have a humorous side to it with some added creepiness. I did not want things to go too far though and to become plastic, that was important to me. The song itself is not very dark and I believe the video completes the song in a good way,” remarks Nick.

Underlining that RPM is more than just a record label but a family for its roster, TUNGSTEN are proud to announce that they have joined forces with well-known booking agent Jörg “Schrörg” Düsedau at Dragon Productions (Scandinavia: Skrikhult Production) for future live activities – a fitting marriage arranged by their new label home itself that goes beyond the borders of distributing music and producing records!
Schrörg comments, “I’m excited to welcome TUNGSTEN to the Dragon Productions family! I’ve known Anders for so long that I can hardly remember when we first met, but I have vivid memories of the fun times we had on the road. I prefer to avoid using superlatives, but the talent in this band is exceptional. TUNGSTEN are destined for great success, and I’m proud and happy to be a part of their journey. These songs will stay with you for long after hearing them!”
RPM managing director Jochen Richert adds, “RPM’s basic philosophy is to get their bands on the road. With a strong partner like Dragon Productions, it’s secured that TUNGSTEN will travel countless miles around the globe and win plenty of metalheads on tour. We will work closely with Schrörg and his team to support this endeavour in the best possible way!”
In the summer of 2024, the band will perform at select Swedish festivals before supporting their label mates SONATA ARCTICA at seven Scandinavian “Clear Cold Beyond” shows alongside FIREWIND and SERIOUS BLACK. TUNGSTEN‘s current itinerary can be found below!
