The album is due for release on April 22nd via Nuclear Blast. You can now stream the second single from the album, ‘Dolce Vita‘ here:
Helsinki’s most famous vampires, THE 69 EYES, recently announced the release of their new 11th studio album, entitled “Universal Monsters”, which will be released on April 22nd via Nuclear Blast.
To bridge the gap until the album is unleashed, the band have launched the fifth making of trailer today. Watch as the band’s main song writer Bazie explains his writing process and how the songs “Shallow Graves”, “Blackbird Pie” and “Lady Darkness” were born – singer Jyrki 69 also illustrates his melodies with lyrics and vocals, whilst producer Johnny Lee Michaels comments how to get the best out of his guitar:
Vocalist Jyrki commented: “There’s about a month for the actual album release, so here’s one more chance to hear new samples from the album. And who would be better to deliver them than the main composer himself! Believe it or not kids, this music is still created by guitars played by humans!”
Helsinki’s most famous vampires, THE 69 EYES, recently announced the title of their new, 12th studio album, “Universal Monsters”, which will be released on April 22nd via Nuclear Blast. The album contains eleven brand-new Finnish gothic hymns.
Now the first single, ‘Jet Fighter Plane’, from the upcoming, outstanding record has been released. The band have also created a music video for the song with director Ville Juurikkala. Check it out below.
“As I first heard the instrumental demo of the song, it immediately sounded for me like a song from the early 80’s new wave/post punk days. You know, like when the music was heavily inspired by David Bowie’s dark visions, the Cold War, the threat of nuclear war and »1984«-kind of the future. So I wrote such lyrics from the past – and all of a sudden, the history started to repeat itself and the Cold War winds started to blow again! It was very strange – all of a sudden THE 69 EYES have a song which is very “today” and even political, longing back the days of peace,” tells singer Jyrki 69. “We also wanted the video to be artistic and visually capturing the vibe and theme of the song. There is hope but also darkness, violence and innocence. And it’s only goth ‘n’ roll.”
The new album’s cover artwork, as well as the above mentioned video, were conceived by Finnish photographer and director Ville Juurikkala – known from his works for NIGHTWISH, AMORPHIS, HIM, APOCALYPTICA and MICHAEL MONROE. As the album title »Universal Monsters« refers, the band are portrayed in movie monster lightning, showing them as well classic and timeless creatures. “The covers are planned and designed as an old-school CD covers – remember when the booklets used to be as exciting as the album itself?! It will actually have five different covers being such a folder – each member of the band can be used as a cover creature of their own. Ville has really succeeded in capturing the classic movie vibe for the shots without any special make-up or photo shopping. THE 69 EYES are the universal rock ’n’ roll monsters – not so many of us left anymore,” says THE 69 EYES vocalist Jyrki. “So from real fans I wish they would get the actual CD in their hands to get the full album treatment as we have planned it to be experienced!”
THE 69 EYES are currently still in the studio with producer Johnny Lee Michaels in his Helsinki-based Bat Cave Studios. Their 11th studio album titled “Universal Monsters” will see the light of the day in April 2016 through Nuclear Blast Records.
The first single and video from it will be released on January 15th, 2016. It’s called ‘Jet Fighter Plane’ and the video for it was directed by Ville Juurikkala known for his work with NIGHTWISH, AMORPHIS, MICHAEL MONROE etc.

“The song has a dark early 80’s kind of vibe. I wrote the lyrics those Cold War-era times in my mind. Strangely the world has totally returned into those dark days again after recording the song,” saysTHE 69 EYES vocalist Jyrki.
“It’s been some 15 years since we recorded »Blessed Be« and »Paris Kills« albums with producer Johnny Lee Michaels here in Helsinki. You can consider »Universal Monsters« as a follow-up to those records. Nobody makes this kind of music anymore.”
