Modern thrash titans WARBRINGER are preparing to unleash their highly anticipated new album Wrath And Ruin, out today Friday, March 14, 2025 via Napalm Records. Today, they unlock the tomb containing their ghoulish third single “Through A Glass, Darkly”, emerging alongside a shell-shocked official music video.
The mini epic “Through A Glass, Darkly”, was inspired by a poem from WWII general George Patton, insisting that he was the reincarnation of an eternal warrior spirit who has fought and died on countless battlefields throughout history. Conjuring the undead with gothic guitar stylings, and mid-paced, brooding tension, WARBRINGER crafts an atmosphere so tangible, you’ll be coughing from the dust off the crypt.
About the single, frontman John Kevill says:
“Here’s the third single from Wrath and Ruin, the epic ‘Through a Glass, Darkly.’ We chose this one as a single to showcase the range and breadth of this album, offering something totally different from the first two singles here. This one has an epic and dark, mystical quality to it, as well as a real fist-raising energy. The song is about an eternally reincarnating warrior, who recounts his struggles and pains across the battlefields of time. This is based on a poem by the WW2 general George Patton, and apparently the man truly believed himself to be the reincarnation of this eternal warrior.
“To me, this idea had a lot of power and resonance, and works as a powerful metaphor for the ongoing human struggle we all face. I also thought his poem had some really great lines, some of which are incorporated here. The track, penned by Carlos Cruz, was an attempt to get the epic feel we had on songs like ‘Defiance of Fate’ and ‘When the Guns Fell Silent’ into a shorter runtime package, a ‘pocket epic’ if you will. I particularly love the soulful solo by Adam Carroll here, and I think the end passage is one of the finest vocal moments on the record. Here’s a song to look at the sky to and stoically contemplate time and legacy… we hope you all enjoy ‘Through a Glass, Darkly’ and the rest of Wrath and Ruin.”
Wrath And Ruin’s destructive opening duo of “The Sword And The Cross” and “A Better World” quickly kick the gates of cataclysm open with broodingly dark guitar work and virtuosic precision. Frontman John Kevill’s passionate proclamations are as potent as ever, mocking those who scoffed at clear harbingers of societal collapse with their misguided optimism. “Neuromancer” rides low and steady with blast master Carlos Cruz putting some serious stank on an irresistible battle vest fist pumper. “The Jackhammer” sees the band explode into a frenzy with chaotic riffage and ear splitting pinch dives. “Through A Glass, Darkly” indulges in deliciously gothic chord work and melodic leads embellishing Kevill’s already hellish vocal fry. “Strike From The Sky” is trademark thrash excellence quickly followed by the atmospheric, true cult epic “Cage Of Air,” with its tensely ornate dueling guitars on full display. Album closer “The Last Of My Kind” continues this dark gothic path with syncopated octave runs dancing around tightly dueling melodeath riffage. Wrath And Ruin sees WARBRINGER indulging in the darker elements of their sound, for an uncompromising and unflinching exploration of life’s most bitter pills.

Modern thrash titans WARBRINGER recently set the world ablaze with the announcement of their highly anticipated new album, Wrath And Ruin, out March 14, 2025 via Napalm Records. Today, they return to unleash the furiously charged second single “The Sword And The Cross”, alongside an official lyric video.
“The Sword And The Cross” continues the band’s righteous crusade for justice and riffs, lambasting listeners with unrelenting blasts, and unsettling, gothic guitar duels. Frontman John Kevill remains steadfast in his convictions, lyrically exploring the dismay of modern conditions through the voice of a medieval lord cruelly mocking the listener.
About the single, frontman Kevill says: “‘The Sword and the Cross’ was the first song we wrote for Wrath and Ruin and sets the tone for the album. We have a dark, epic thrashing number where a callous lord tells the audience how and why he owns them. First, establishing himself with brute violence (the Sword). Second, legitimating himself with ideology (the Cross). The end of the song was written first, where this lord says that he is still present, and reigns in skyscrapers rather than castles, that his sons will own your sons, and he will own you long after he dies. I love this section and it feels absolutely maniacal and evil to sing. One of the chief themes on the record is “techno-feudalism.” Though our rulers may have given up their crowns and titles, they never relinquished their power. The modern lords are no less our masters than the medieval ones were.
Bend the knee, peasants, for we bring to you Wrath and Ruin. We bring the sword!”
Wrath And Ruin’s destructive opening duo of “The Sword And The Cross” and “A Better World” quickly kick the gates of cataclysm open with broodingly dark guitar work and virtuosic precision. Modern thrash titans WARBRINGER are thrilled to announce their highly anticipated new album, Wrath And Ruin, out March 14, 2025 via Napalm Records. With 20 years of history and millions of cross platform streams in their wake, ‘best of the year’ nods from the likes of Loudwire and Consequence on 2020’s Weapons Of Tomorrow, and now gearing up for a massive European tour with Decapitated and Cryptopsy this spring, WARBRINGER is poised for their next global assault with their seventh full-length studio release.
On Wrath And Ruin, WARBRINGER continues their furious assault against the powers that be with eight new explosive rippers lyrically focused on inspiring listeners to recognize strength in numbers and actualize their class power. The bonus CD, included with the 2CD and digital versions of the album, boasts 15 incendiary live versions of fan favorites recorded along their “Ravaging Europe 2023” tour. The album features pristine production by Mark Lewis, famous for his work with Cannibal Corpse, Trivium, and The Black Dahlia Murder, mastering by Justin Shturtz (Testament, Sepultura, MachineHead), and album art by the legendary Andreas Marschall, famous for his work with Kreator, Obituary, and In Flames amongst others.
Alongside the album announcement, WARBRINGER have unleashed the breakneck speed metal ripper “A Better World”, lambasting ignorant optimism with forked tongue. The track arrives with a high octane official music video.
About the single and video, frontman John Kevill says:
“When I was younger, I used to think the world would only get better during my life. I know now that isn’t the case. We aren’t going to fix the environment even though we know the consequences, because profits would decrease, so it’s not considered possible. On top of that, our societies keep getting more unequal, with a few people owning most everything, and most people just trying to keep their heads above water. We still won’t feed everyone, but we will fund development of weaponized autonomous drones. Etc etc.
I was reading some social theory stuff (Mark Fisher) some years ago and feeling depressed about my own future in these conditions. I went to a therapist and they basically told me it was all real and legitimate, and that all they could do was give me drugs so I could pretend that I didn’t know all this. I don’t really have time to worry too much, because a bunch of bills are always due. I also stopped dreaming for a year or two, which I found scary. I tried to bottle this feeling into ‘A Better World’ – I don’t think I’m the only one.
The video was made by Juan Rodriguez, who we worked with on ‘Crushed Beneath the Tracks’, and shows WARBRINGER going hard – what we do best. The song has a melodic death-tinged riff penned by Adam Carroll, with arrangements by thrash maestro Carlos Cruz. To me, it gives the feeling of being stuck on some accelerated loop that won’t slow down. Hope you guys enjoy the first taste of Wrath And Ruin, there’s a lot more to come!”

M-Theory Audio in cooperation with thrash metal force WARBRINGER and Century Media Records is releasing cassette copies of the iconic band’s first four albums to retail stores Feb. 9, 2024. Limited to 100 copies these four albums that cemented WARBRINGER’s legacy will each feature bonus tracks and colored shells. Additionally, they can be pre-ordered now direct from the webstore www.m-theoryaudio.com/store.
“Road Warriors! We’re excited to extend our collaboration with M-Theory Audio to bring you the individual release of our first 4 albums during our time with Century Media Records on cassette! Thank you all who supported the ‘Total War’ box-set that also included our two demos and two newest Napalm Records albums; those are collector’s items that will be out-of-print once the last few boxes are sold,” states WARBRINGER drummer Carlos Cruz. “Prepare yourselves as we’ll finally be entering the studio for album 7 Spring 2024!”
These four albums, released between 2008-2013 highlight their years recording for Century Media and one can hear and appreciate the journey begun by teenagers inspired by their influences to an international recording and touring juggernaut trailblazing new paths and inspiring a next generation. Hear the raw ferocity and reckless innocence of classic debut ‘War Without End,’ produced by the esteemed Bill Metoyer (Slayer, D.R.I., Dark Angel), including 3 bonus tracks recorded in the same sessions of older demo re-recordings. Meanwhile, 2009’s ‘Waking Into Nightmares’ showcased a band who’d spent the past year on the road and sandwiched the writing and recording of this stellar beast, that introduced some death metal elements, between tours and witness the tightness and precision come to the fore, especially backed by drummer Nic Ritter (RIP). This one includes the infamous demo song “Road Warrior” re-recorded along with album producer Gary Holt (Exodus/Slayer) ripping a guest guitar solo plus a cover of Swedish Death Metal stalwarts Unleashed. Two years later, came ‘Worlds Torn Asunder’ that featured Carlos Cruz entering the ranks and further progressing their sound with producer Steve Evetts (Symphony X, Sepultura) behind the board, and the reissue tacks on their covers of Motorhead and Bathory. And finally, the experimental ‘IV: Empires Collapse,’ mixed by Brett Eliason (Pearl Jam, Avenged Sevenfold), which is the only album to include Mantic Ritual members Jeff Potts (guitar) and Ben Mottsman (bass) and to include writing contributions from all members that highlighted a more diverse effort, including punk and black metal elements, which while at first was misunderstood has become a standout for many fans. This one includes their rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “Communication Breakdown.” There are no plans to individually reissue the demos or Napalm albums on cassette, but the full WARBRINGER catalog on tape is available while a few box sets remain – only available from the webstore.
The noteworthy release proves the true mastery of their craft, and spurred a forward shift of an entire genre – transporting thrash into a brand-new era. Building upon their internationally-acclaimed blistering attack, with ‘Weapons of Tomorrow,’ WARBRINGER showcases a refreshed technical approach and a heightened focus on unique lyrical and vocal style. The record takes the promise of the band’s previous release, ‘Woe to the Vanquished,’ and carries it onward, presenting WARBRINGER at their absolute best. A new album will be released by Napalm Records in 2024.
Formed in late 2004, WARBRINGER has gone on to be one of the most consistent and well-regarded thrash metal bands of the new generation. After releasing two demos, the band broke out with their 2008 debut, ‘War Without End’ – a record illustrating a frantic energy and aggression which had been absent from metal for some time. The band continued to redefine their sound on each of their next four career-defining albums – 2009’s ‘Waking Into Nightmares,’ 2011’s ‘Worlds Torn Asunder,’ 2013’s ‘Warbringer IV: Empires Collapse’ and 2017’s ‘Woe To The Vanquished,’ their first via Napalm Records (Billboard – #8 New Artist Albums, #17 Hard Music Albums, #26 Current Rock and #29 Independent Current Albums). WARBRINGER has bolstered their performance roster by relentlessly touring internationally throughout five continents with iconic artists such as Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Testament, Napalm Death, Iced Earth, Nile, Suffocation, Kreator, Soilwork, Overkill, Sepultura, Hatebreed, Nevermore, Dark Tranquillity, Cavelera, Sacred Reich and many more, and found themselves working with industry greats on each new album – creating with producers such as Bill Metoyer (Slayer, D.R.I., Dark Angel), thrash legend Gary Holt (guitarist, Slayer/Exodus), Steve Evetts (Symphony X, DevilDriver, The Dillinger Escape Plan), and Mike Plotnikoff (In Flames, All That Remains, Fear Factory) and cover artwork from legends Dan Seagrave (Morbid Angel, Malevolent Creation, Suffocation) and Andreas Marschall (Blind Guardian, Obituary, Hammerfall). The ever-evolving quintet continues to renovate their potent concept with each passing year, without ever losing focus on the future. Metal Injection said it best, “…the almighty WARBRINGER have proven that they reign eternal… no matter what the circumstances.”
