Hammerheart Records have announced the reissue of Wargasm‘s ciminally overlooked thrash metal masterpiece Why Play Around?. The re-issue, remastered by Ted Tringo (Mysto Dysto, Absu, Nuclear Death), is set for worldwide release on 25th July and will be available on various limited edition vinyl.
Originally unleashed in 1988, this cult classic rips with razor sharp riffing, frenetic solos and vitriolic energy that easily rivals the Big Four. From the neck snapping opener ‘Wasteland’ to the molten assault of ‘Revenge’ and the epic nine minute track ‘Wargasm,’ the Spillberg brothers (Rich & Barry) and Bob Mayo crafted a record that’s ferocious, technical and ahead of its time.
Today sees dynamic London-based duo WARGASM release their first single of the year, “70% DEAD” (with Corey Taylor)via slowplay / Republic / Island UK.
Written by Sam Matlock and Milkie Way, the track sees the band collaborate with Slipknot’s Corey Taylor. With their voices blending perfectly together against the heavy rhythm, “70% DEAD”sees the trio vent about the state of the world. Speaking on the track the band said: “We were on the road in the USA with Corey – Sam ended up jumping on a mic with him during his set and we just felt like the voices sounded right together. It totally made sense to do something fresh with the three of us and well…. you don’t ask you don’t get.
Some OG fans might recognise the lyrics, this has been a long time coming. “70% Dead” is a cry out at a world gone mad; war, disease, inequality. It feels like something is brewing. ‘Fuck me, what went wrong? I’m sick of sleeping on the barrel of a loaded gun”
Earlier this week, Wargasm played their debut album VENOM in its entirety in a tank graveyard. This year will see them take to 2000 Trees festival where they headline the Cave stage before conquering festival stages across Europe. Full live show dates below.
Last year saw the band release their debut album VENOM, which includes fan-favourites “Do It So Good”,“Bang Ya Head” ft. Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst and “Modern Love”. The debut album has received love from critics with NME stating the debut album, “cements Wargasm’s position as one of UK heavy music’s leading forces.” whilst Kerrang! proclaim “‘Venom is arguably the biggest and heaviest WARGASM have ever sounded, as well as the most creative.”
About WARGASM: WARGASM are the climax of an orgy between heavy metal, electronic, rave, alternative, and industrial powered up by the friction of two gleefully insane creative insurgents Milkie Way and Sam Matlock. They honed a vital and visceral vision across early bangers such as “Spit.,” “Rage All Over,” “Salma Hayek,” and “Scratchcard Feeling,” paving the way for 2022’s EXPLICIT: THE MIXXXTAPE. Beyond reeling in over 10 million streams and counting, the latter incited the applause of PAPER Magazine, Revolver Magazine, and more as well as earning the endorsement of icons such as Jonathan Davis of Korn and Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit who personally tapped the band to open a 2022 North American arena tour. They stand out the rare force of nature who could hold their own on tour with either YUNGBLUD or Corey Taylor of Slipknot. Plus, they’ve graced the covers of Alternative Press and KERRANG! in addition to garnering the first-ever “New Noise Award” at the 2022 KERRANG! Awards. However, everything simply set the stage for their 2023 full-length debut album, VENOM. The duo deliver a shockingly catchy blast of horny and hypnotic heavy music as unpredictable as it is uncompromising. Its lineage can be traced to the big-screen genre mashing of the nineties, yet it’s spiked with a 21st century fury that could only belong to WARGASM. You’ve been warned by singles “Bang Ya Head” [feat. Fred Durst] and “Do It So Good.” Rock music won’t be the same, and thank FUCKING God for that.
Dynamic London-based duo WARGASM has uncovered the explosive music video for their song “Super Fiend”. Watch the video HERE.
Paper Magazine who premiered the video said: “‘Super Fiend” pushes past the point of aggravation and lays it all out on the table.” Check it out HERE.
On “Super Fiend” the band said: “Inspired by the bleakness of the 2000AD comic universe, the sound of slipknot and the way our society is moving: we wrote this song because we want to be left alone, free from fake friends and the posturing that can plague the relationships around us. It’s nice to be nice, but it’s also nice sometimes to just be. With the human experience comes a spectrum of emotions. Anger is energy, suck it up and feel how you feel.”
In addition, the long-awaited vinyl for EXPLICIT: THE MIXXXTAPE is available now! Fans can purchase the vinyl HERE.
The pair is currently on European tour with Enter Shikari. This follows their recent team up with the group for “The Void Stares Back.” Right out of the gate, it reeled in 1.5 million Spotify streams and 209K YouTube views on the music video. Not to mention they will be rejoining Limp Bizkit as they embark on their UK and European tour.
Earlier this year the duo performed with them on their North American Still Sucks Tour making stops at some of the country’s iconic arenas including Madison Square Garden. See full tour dates below.
Across the 7-tracks of EXPLICIT: THE MIXXXTAPE, showcases their talent for innovative and chaotic melodies. Additionally, this year has seen WARGASM grace the covers of Alternative Press and Kerrang!

ABOUT WARGASM: Modern life is war: we are Wargasm. Three years ago this project began as a retaliation to the stagnant state of rock music around the world. A lot of synth and hip-hop has the same energy and elements as metal. Genre is dead and we’re living off of “Energy.” Wargasm was born in the right place and the right time to capture that feeling. This should be sexy and violent. Whatever people think, they’ll think. We hope you find something from it, but we also don’t care if you don’t. All we can do is guide you here. We called our mixtape Explicit, because Rock & Roll lost its way and abandoned its taboos. We’re here to add some new ones. We’re here to do horny rock music, because no one else is. We’re here to confuse you. We’re here to prove everyone wrong. We’re here to make you say, “What the fuck?”
A few years ago, they met and incorporated synthesizers into their bloodthirsty brand of metallic mayhem. The single “Spit.” ripped a hole through streaming services with over 3.7 million Spotify streams. Buzz increased as they dropped “Rage All Over,” “Salma Hayek,” and “Scratchcard Feeling.” NME named them among “100 Acts to Watch in 2021,” and Alternative Press touted them on its “New Bands To Watch” cover in 2021. They took home “Best UK Breakthrough” at The Heavy Music Awards. Beyond gigs with Yungblud and Creeper, they left audiences stunned at Reading and Leeds Festival, Download Pilot Festival, Bloodstock, Louder Than Life and Riot Festival.
