WHITESNAKE mainman David Coverdale remembers first meeting the late DEEP PURPLE keyboard legend JON LORD who he describes as “a sweet, sweet man. He knew how to elevate your spirit.”
Coverdale talks about how Lord comforted him before his audition for Deep Purple in 1973, and of the rehearsals at Clearwell Castle before they recorded the Burn album.
The latest episode of Whitesnake TV, in which WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale answers video questions from his fans about his life, music and career, and performs a few numbers with the band’s guitarist, Doug Aldrich, can be seen below.
In a recent interview with Albania’s Top Channel web site, Coverdale was asked what fans can expect from the band in the near future. “I am always reticent to discuss in detail what we’re planning as I still enjoy ‘surprises.'”
He continued, “In this day and age, with global technology and overwhelming social media, it is getting harder and harder to keep anything secret until they are ready to be presented. We host a very interactive global web site with Whitesnake.com and I answer people’s questions as much as I can without giving too much away.”
“We are very, very active this year behind the scenes. Many exciting things in the pipeline. Two projects I can tell you about are related to completing the ‘Forevermore’ project. An in-concert DVD from last year’s tour and also a double live CD featuring different shows. It’s shaping up very well indeed and I think a lot of people will enjoy re-living the concert experience they had with us in 2011. We have also started Whitesnake TV, which is off to a fantastic start and seems to be making a lot of people happy.”
Asked if WHITESNAKE will tour next year, Coverdale said, “There are plans to start in Europe in May, I heard, but as yet there is nothing concrete. But, of course, we hope to be out there again. We have too much fun with audiences to stay at home for too long!”
Regarding whether all his plans involve WHITESNAKE, or if fans can expect any other collaborations or solo projects, Coverdale said, “WHITESNAKE is my priority and at this time I have no other plans to collaborate with other artists. But, you know rock and roll… Everything can change with a phone call.”
JOURNEY and WHITESNAKE along with special guests THUNDER, are set to appear onstage together for the first time ever in May 2013, taking in eight dates across the UK. Tickets go on sale 10am on Friday 9th November and are available from Livenation.co.uk or Ticketmaster.co.uk.
JOURNEY‘s Neal Schon said of the tour: “Looking forward to getting back to the UK and playing our best for you all. You guys are the very best, cheers and see you soon. We will be rocking!”
Meanwhile WHITESNAKE say they’re back with a vengeance in 2013, with plans to release a live DVD ahead of the tour as well as a double album.”Unfinished business…” as Coverdale says slyly. “We all wanted the last tour to continue as we got closer to the end…After a year in the studio we’re ready to rock on stage again…We’re coming back for more…”
Special guests THUNDER will also be joining the UK dates. Singer Danny Bowes says: “We’d already discussed possibly doing some shows next year, so this is perfect, and it’s a great bill, like they used to be back in the day, it’ll be a brilliant night out”.

Following the success of his First UK Solo Tour in March 2012, MARCO MENDOZA (Thin Lizzy / Whitesnake / Ted Nugent) returns to our shores this October along with his band – a formidable three piece featuring Guitarist Soren Andersen (Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa, Dave Mustaine) and powerhouse drummer Mark Cross (Ian Gillan, Firewind, Tank)
Whilst Marco Mendoza is probably best known for his role as bass player with the legendary Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake and Ted Nugent, there is much more to him than that. For over two decades now he has become the first choice collaborator for many big names, with over twenty impressive album releases and countless successful tours to his name.
In the early nineties he began his recording career with renowned Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward, before starting a long working relationship with celebrated guitarist John Sykes, recording and touring with Blue Murder and Sykes’ solo band throughout the nineties and eventually joining the guitarist in a reformed Thin Lizzy alongside Brian Downey, Scott Gorham and Darren Wharton. During this period he also recorded with artists as diverse as Tommy Shaw, Roch Voisine and Right Said Fred, as well as putting out a live album with his jazz trio Mendoza Heredia Neto.
The new millenium saw some heavy touring by Thin Lizzy, with Mendoza also taking some time out to tour and record with Ted Nugent for his ‘Full Bluntal Nugity’ and ‘Craveman’ albums, whilst his appearance on David Coverdale’s ‘Into The Light’ album eventually saw him joining Whitesnake for huge arena tours and festival dates, one of which was released as the ‘Live… In The Still Of The Night‘ concert DVD. During down time from Whitesnake he was also a member of the supergroup Soul Sirkus, recording an album and touring the US and UK alongside Journey members Neal Schon, Deen Castronovo and Jeff Scott Soto. Another spell with Thin Lizzy was punctuated by working with ex-Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan and George Lynch‘s reformed Lynch Mob, the talented bassist somehow finding time to also make his first solo album ‘Live For Tomorrow’ in 2007.
Having released more records with the likes of Derek Sherinian, Dolores O’Riordan, Lynch Mob, ex-Judas Priest singer Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens, and his own project, Casa Mendoza, 2012 sees Marco Mendoza as an indispensible member of the most successful Thin Lizzy line-up since their reformation, as well as touring his own material and performing clinics whenever possible. This is his first solo tour of the UK, so take this opportunity to see this charismatic musician up-close and personal. You won’t regret it!
