Nightwish, one of the major finnish metal bands, owes its fame far beyond the undoubted musical ability, and its ability to keep alive the attention on his daily work, with the Summer Camp including the photos and video galleries, as a unique viral marketing campaign. Nightwish has always been able to update and maintain vivid the relationship around the band.
For those who haven’t had the opportunity to read from the official website of Nightwish, about what is the Summer Camp, I’ll try to make a summary:
From 17/07/2010 the band has retreated into an area of unspoilt nature of the Finnish countryside with woods and lakes, but fully equipped to allow rehease the first songs of studio recordings. The band members live and rehease together as well as carrying out work and having fun, thus indicating that there is more than only professional friendship between them. For all these factors the fans feel more involved with the band and the creation of the songs, seeing the work growing almost every day, step by step.
What can we find out about their new album?
- Keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen is once again the main composer and songwriter;
- Their joint work begins after they have 11 songs to define the sequential order in the cd. Mr. Pip Williams coordinates the whole orchestral parts before the band gets to the recording studio (Oct. 15th)
- Once again, all the orchestral sessions will be cured and executed by the orchestra and choir of London.
1° track, the band wants to make it clear that there will be a huge force in the new album and that it will contain what is known, as one of the best choruses ever had from Nigthwish, powerful guitar riffs and a solid ensemble.
2° track: is defined as a marriage of Van Halen and Pantera, with a particular guitar rif in pure Tarantino’ s movie style.
3° track: turns out to be a return to roots with a pure Nightwish acoustic touch.
4° track : is described as a funeral march created by the soul of Tuomas
5° track: written by Marko “Marco” Hietala called “A wonderfully catchy song with the 5-times repeated chorus”
6° track: they call it “Nukkumatti” (trad. Sandman), turns out to be one of the favorites among the new material by Tuomas, it’s described: “a pounding, twisted and chorusless ghost train ride is sure to bring a smile to your face.”
7° track: a happy song, born after 10 pints of lager, composed in Troy’s honours, the bagpipes player we’ve met in “The Islander”.
8° track: the brand new song, unlike anything that Nightwish has done to date, the song that allows everyone to play their instruments designed to be executed in two voices.
9° track: the favorite song of guitarist Erno Matti Juhani “Emppu” Vuorinen.
10° track: an acoustic song in “The Islander” style, where Ennio Morricone meets Christy Moore, with bagpipes and ethnic instruments.
11° Track: the so-called 20-minute monster song compositional ambition (perhaps this is the dream which Tuomas talks about in an interviews?)
This is what we find musically on the new Nightwish record, but the Summer Diary is much more: there are photos, videos and tales about how Nightwish lived the creation of the new album. And now, we just gotta wait for the fall of 2011 to listen to new songs and see if I hit the mark with the descriptions. Also because initially Nightwish spoke of 12 songs but I was able to find only 11 in their Summer Diary- history.
