Lemi, Finland-based metallers STAM1NA will enter the studio in September with producer Joe Barresi (TOOL, BAD RELIGION, APOCALYPTICA, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, WOLFMOTHER) to begin recording their fifth album for an early 2012 release.
According to a press release, the collaboration between Barresi and STAM1NA came about as a result of a meeting the producer had with the band in February 2010 when Joe was in Helsinki working on the latest APOCALYPTICA album.
Swedish producer/multi-instrumentalist icon Dan Swanö (EDGE OF SANITY, NIGHTINGALE, BLOODBATH, ODYSSEY, PAN-THY-MONIUM) has contributed guest vocals to two tracks on the upcoming third full-length album from Jordanian dark oriental metallers BILOCATE.
Commented BILOCATE vocalist Ramzi Essayed: “From a legendary contributor in the international metal scene flows a legendary voice, adding more to BILOCATE. Not to mention that this collaboration is taking place in two of the most highlighted BILOCATE songs.
“We in BILOCATE are so honored to have Dan‘s voice among ours, and it’s such an enthusiasm charge for us to even look more forward to completing the release and sharing this mix with our audience. Thanks a lot, Dan!
“‘Crimson I’ and ‘II’ have been on our top list for years.
“Dan‘s work in all of his projects always amazed BILOCATE and when the idea started seven months ago, we were confident that Dan will enjoy the music and work with us. His contribution on clean vocals gave another taste for the album. The outcome is a pure dark musical journey… We can’t wait to share it with our fans.”

Swedish power metallers DRAGONLAND have parted ways with guitarist Nicklas Magnusson and bassist Christer Pedersen. Taking over bass duties is Anders Hammer (NIGHTRAGE) and sitting behind the drums is Morten Lowe Sorensen (THE ARCANE ORDER, SUBMISSION, AMARANTHE). Previous drummer Jesse Lindskog will handle second-guitar duties in the future.
Commented guitarist Olof Mörck: “Many of you have been wondering about the exact status of the DRAGONLAND lineup since we performed shows the last couple of years with different members than the original lineup, and we now confirm these changes to be permanent. Our split with Nicklas Magnusson and Christer Pedersen was completely amicable, and we wish them all the best in the future, ponderously talented musicians as they both are. A big cheers to you for all the great years together! Stepping in are two close friends to the band, and phenomenally talented musicians. Morten‘s virtuoso drumming definitely lends our sound a new dimension, and Anders have laid down some really slick and technical bass lines, for all of you to enjoy this fall! We will unveil a release date soon, so stay tuned!”
DRAGONLAND 2011 is:
Vocals: Jonas Hedigert
Guitars: Olof Mörck
Keyboards: Elias Holmlid
Guitars: Jesse Lindskog
Bass: Anders Hammer
Drums: Morten Lowe Sorensen
DRAGONLAND‘s fifth album will be released before the end of the year via Germany’s AFM Records. Several different studios were used to track this utterly ambitious CD, with Jacob Hansen adding his magic touch to the mix at Hansen studios in Ribe, Denmark. Twelve songs were recorded during the sessions, and the music itself is based on a deep and emotional story, picking up where the band’s second album, “Holy War”, left off nine years ago. The effort also includes a guest appearance by the legendary musical stage actor Fred Johanson.
Songtitles set to appear on the new album include “The Tempest”, “A Stranger I Know”, “The Shadow Of The Mithril Mountains” and “A Thousand Towers White”.

“Odin’s Tree”, a brand new song from Norway’s ICS VORTEX, the project led by the former DIMMU BORGIR and current BORKNAGAR member, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. The track comes off ICS VORTEX‘s debut album, “Storm Seeker”, which will be released on August 22 in Europe and August 23 in North America via Century Media Records.
The track listing for the CD is as follows:
01. The Blackmobile
02. Odin’s Tree
03. Skoal!
04. Dogsmacked
05. Aces
06. Windward
07. When Shuffled Off
08. Oil In Water
09. Storm Seeker
10. Flaskeskipper
11. The Sub Mariner
ICS Vortex describes “Storm Seeker” as “a tribute to the fall and rise of my kind. A generation of misfits, born of hippies and raised by Satan.”
Regarding the influences that went into the making of the album, ICS Vortex said, “Inspiration is usually drawn from the things that are close to me. I always write in code, it’s often doom related, but never ever whiny. The power of the elements, obscure beauty, religion, death and junk are a few favorites. Knowing I am drawn to the power of the dark side, I decided to include lighter topics into the mix this time to separate ‘Storm Seeker’ from ‘Sideshow Symphonies’: ‘The Blackmobile’ about Mopar and ‘Aces’ about gambling are the result. Love songs, really.”
“The Blackmobile” can be streamed in the YouTube clip below.
Commented ICS Vortex: “This song was written way back when I still felt black metal was dangerous. Now, totally untrue to all that, it’s a tribute to the only beast I ever loved.”
“Storm Seeker” will be released in Europe as initial limited-edition digipak, 180-gram LP and as a digital download. According to a press release, the CD “takes the musical elements from [ICS Vortex‘s] 10-plus years of experience with DIMMU BORGIR as well as the legacy of the classic bands with whom he is still active (BORKNAGAR, ARCTURUS and LAMENTED SOULS), topping things off with his signature clean vocals in order to make ‘Storm Seeker’ become a perfectly balanced axe, whether a song is cutting fast, or dicing slow.”
NIGHTWISH recently spent time not only putting finishing touches to their new album, “Imaginarium”, but also planning a movie of the same name. If all goes well, the CD will be released in early 2012, to be followed by the movie at some point further down the line. The first single off the album as well as the trailer for the film should arrive well before the end of 2011.

Eight years after the release of “Blot”, legendary Viking metal act EINHERJER will issue its comeback album, “Nørrøn”, on September 9 via Indie Recordings. The CD was recorded at Studio Borealis and was produced by EINHERJER‘s Frode Glesnes. Matt Hyde (SLAYER, MONSTER MAGNET) mixed the effort. The cover artwork was painted by Renathe H. Bryn.
According to a press release, “Nørrøn” is “an album which combines the best qualities from all of EINHERJER‘s previous albums. It’s dark bombastic and aggressive, but still atmospheric, beautiful and melancholic. ‘Norrøn’ has the quality to send you on a musical journey where your present dies and all your senses starts to relive the music. Where you are plunged into a life of forgotten wisdom, beliefs and forces. Where all that was lost and taken has been resurrected. Where you stand steadfast on Norse ground, calling for revenge from your heathen heart.”
Commented EINHERJER drummer Gerhard Storesund: “This is an album that has caused much joy and despair in the creative process. I hope and believe all the blood, sweat and hard work reflect and color our relentless pursuit of creating something beautiful, original and epic, and at the same time giving you the raw and attacking feeling of the real Viking metal spirit.”
“Nørrøn” track listing:
01. Norrøn Kraft
02. Naglfar
03. Alu Alu Laukar
04. Varden Brenne
05. Malmting
06. Balladen Om Bifrost
