RATT singer Stephen Pearcy has posted the following message on his Facebook page:
“I woke this morning to terrible news. We lost a dear friend, band mate and a sweet soul. Tim Garcia, original bass player from our [pre-RATT] band (1977-1980) MICKEY RATT.
“Tim was an amazing bass player. Even the first day auditioning him for the band in 1977 playing [LED] ZEPPELIN‘s ‘Immigrant Song’, Chris Hager (ROUGH CUTT, MICKEY RATT lead guitarist) and I were blown away. We found our man. He was so dedicated, read music, played anything we showed him. He remembered every song and parts Chris and I would even forget to this day. We always kicked ass with Tim, and he was always willing to be a partner in crime.
“When I moved the band to L.A. in January 1980, he only played a few shows and returned to San Diego to start a family. He got married, had a child and life sent Tim on another path. We always kept in touch. Tim even played with my solo band a few years back when I couldn’t lock in a player to hit the road.
“We recently talked about getting the original band (MICKEY RATT) back together for a one-time reunion.
“I’m deeply crushed today and just wanted to share his brilliance as a great friend, musician (even if not a household name), bandmate and just a great soul.
“Another one gone.
“Life is short. Let’s appreciate even those we have trouble understanding due to substance abuse who are our loved ones or friends.
“Rest in peace, Timmy. Your playing is always with us and you did eventually make it on records. MICKEY RATT set the foundation for my band RATT.

EMPYRIA guitarist Mike Kischnick (ex-THOR) has written a new, all-original Christmas song called ‘Our Last Christmas’ which also features singer Pat Brown (TEN2NINE), bassist Jim Pa (ex-CRUZEROS) and drummer Scott Gamble (Empyria, ex-Ten2Nine). The track is dedicated to Kischnick’s grandfather who passed away December 26th, 1993.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY guitarist ZAKK WYLDE is featured in a new interview with Ultimate-Guitar.com. An excerpt is available below:
UG: What has the JUDAS PRIEST tour been like?
Wylde: “It’s awesome, man. I mean they’re all super cool dudes to begin with aside from being an amazing band and legendary and all that stuff. I mean they’re just super cool people. I met the guys back on the Ozzfest when they first hit the Ozzfest years ago and I became friends with the guys then.”
UG: You got to know the band during that 2004 Ozzfest?
Wylde: “I remember I got Glenn an old SG from Gibson and I got a red-and-white pickguard V for KK back then. You know like the two guitars they had on the back of British Steel so I just got those as presents for the guys to say, “Thanks for the guitar lessons over the years and the inspiration” and all that shit. We all went to dinner last night and I’ve known Scott [Travis, drummer] for years and Richie [Faulkner] now playing guitar for ‘em; Rich is like slammin’ it and killin’ it every night.”
UG: Richie Faulkner is a really good guitar player.
Wylde: “Yeah, he’s like slammin’, dude. I mean killer technique and chops up the ass. He’s great and he fits in great with the guys. I mean it’s whatever happens between bands and K.K. and why isn’t Bill Wyman still in the ROLLING STONES? You know what I mean? To me and you on the outside lookin’ in you just go, ‘How hard could it be to be in a band?’ Like me with Ozzy? We never got into an argument—we were too busy laughin’ our balls off.”
As previously reported, Wylde will be the inaugural honoree at the first ever Rock & Roll Roast hosted by Guitar World magazine. This charity event will take place at The Grove in Anaheim, CA on Thursday, January 19th, 2012, with a portion of all proceeds going to the MusiCares charity.
Roastmaster Sharon Osbourne and other metallers such as, OZZY OSBOURNE, FOZZY’s Chris Jericho, ANTHRAX’s Scott Ian, Stone Cold Steve Austin, SLIPKNOT’s Corey Taylor, as well as comedy and roast veterans Jim Norton, Brian Posehn, Jim Florentine and more will all take aim at the Black Label Society frontman and guitar icon.
Also, fresh from her recent stint on the JUDAS PRIEST tour, Lady Starlight (LADY GAGA’s resident DJ) will also be on hand to serve as the evening’s official DJ.
Wylde commented on the roast: “How can they roast me? I’m a good Catholic boy…”
Sharon Osbourne explained: “Zakk has always called me his Mom, but I think my boy needs a good kicking.”
Editorial Director of Guitar World, Brad Tolinski added: “We’re excited to kick-off this new annual event, and who better than Zakk Wylde, to be our first… victim.”
