Thorium Photography conducted an interview with bassist Jarkko Aaltonen of Finnish folk metallers KORPIKLAANI before the band’s November 23, 2011 concert at Club Soda in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. You can now watch the chat below.
WARMEN, the brainchild of CHILDREN OF BODOM keyboardist Janne Wirman, recently entered the studio to begin recording the follow-up for the band’s critically acclaimed 2009 studio album “Japanese Hospitality”. A 2012 release is expected.
More photos from the recording sessions for the as-yet-untitled new CD can be seen below.
WARMEN celebrated its 10-year anniversary with a concert during the Helsinki Metal Meeting weekend in February 2010 at Dante’s Highlight in Helsinki, Finland. The band’s third live performance ever included guest appearances by Alexi Laiho (CHILDREN OF BODOM) on a cover version of ROCKWELL‘s “Somebody’s Watching Me”, Timo Kotipelto (STRATOVARIUS), Finnish pop/rock queen Jonna Kosonen (JONNA’S PROBLEM) and Pasi Rantanen (ex-THUNDERSTONE).
Spinefarm Records released a WARMEN compilation album entitled “The Evil That Warmen Do” on January 27, 2010.
WARMEN‘s fourth album, “Japanese Hospitality”, entered the Finnish chart at position No. 36. The CD was released via Spinefarm Records. The 10-song effort includes two cover versions — “Separate Ways”, originally recorded by JOURNEY, and “Black Cat” by JANET JACKSON, featuring a guest appearance by Jonna Kosonen. Other guest musicians that appear on the CD include Laiho, Rantanen, Kotipelto and Marko Vaara.

Following the festival organiser’s failure to meet their contractual obligations, making Manowar‘s headlining performance at Forces Of Metal Festival on June 8th 2012 impossible, the band’s performance is officially cancelled.
Magic Circle Management have done everything in their power to save this performance for the sake of the fans, but the organisers have failed to find a solution to all of their problems and Magic Circle Management must protect the Manowar fans.
The band was looking forward to returning to Holland with next year’s massive festival production. Magic Circle management hope that Forces Of Metal will immediately refund all tickets sold to all those who purchased a ticket to see Manowar.
Those who have purchased tickets to Forces Of Metal, Netherlands to see Manowar are urged to immediately contact the promoter’s office to obtain a full refund.
RED ROSE started in the beginning of 2010, in Israel. It was a mixture of musicians from two different bands, which came to an end of their existence. The musicians had years of experience on stage and experience in song-writing. Together they started a new project, aiming on a debut album “Live The Life You’ve Imagined” which came out on October 2011, via BakerTeam Records. Some days ago I had a chance to interview Red Rose’s keyboardist Deion Kristen, here’s what we talked about…
1. Hi Deion, I’m Tarja. Welcome to Metal Shock Finland! Let’s start from the beginning, which is not so far in the past… you’re very young as a band, but what is the background of your band-members?
Greetings Tarja and Metal Shock Finland readers! First of all let me thank you for your time and interest. It’s a pleasure to be noticed in such a distant country from us as Finland!
I think I will begin the story with introduction of the band’s members: Leve Laiter – vocals, Elnur Aliev – guitars, Eli Reeve – bass, and me, Deion Kristen, on keyboards (and Sam Davidoff – session drums).
Before we gathered as Red Rose, we all had several years of experience playing in hard rock/metal bands. In fact Leve, Eli and I played in the same band that performed covers and just started making first steps in writing of original material. That band didn’t work out so well eventually, and our dissatisfaction was one of the reasons to create Red Rose.
Elnur played in a more “advanced” band then, whose sound was much heavier. They recorded and self-produced an album, but experienced rough times too at approximately the same period we did. And the two parted bands formed one new. Although Elnur’s musical background is much heavier than ours, his love for melody and harmony made the connection with us easy and natural. He was the best match for Red Rose’s guitars.
MetalTalk.net (by Tina Saul) has issued the following:
Is your Christmas tree looking decidedly drab and un-Metal? Then fear not, as we have a way to make sure you have the most rockin’ Christmas tree there is with these simple instructions on how to make your very own Slash bauble.
What you’ll need:
– 1 x pint glass
– 1 x shot glass
– 1 x foam rubber sheet (available from all good craft shops)
– 1 x marker pen
– 1 x small gold bauble
– 100 x strands of thin black ribbon
– 1 x butt of rollie cigarette
– 1 x Bottle of Jack Daniels
– 1 x Whisky tumbler
– 1 x Record player
– 1 x Appetite for Destruction (vinyl only)
– 1 x pair of scissors
– Double sided tape
– Glue
– Ice
– Small stapler (optional)
Let’s start with the most important thing first. Get your whisky tumbler, but in some ice and pour yourself a large glass of Jack Daniels. Switch your record player on and gently place your precious copy of ‘Appetite’ on the turntable. Lovingly apply the needle and you’re ready to go.
First take the pint glass, turn it upside down, place it on the foam rubber sheet and draw a circle round the glass with your marker pen.
Top tip: press down gently and you’ll leave an indent in the foam which will make it easier to cut out. Next take the shot glass, turn it upside down and place in the centre of the circle created with the pint glass and again draw round the edge. Cut round the outer circle and then carefully the inner circle, as this will be used as the top of the hat. With the smaller circle, nick a cross in the middle with your scissors.
Now cut a strip about an inch wide from the foam and create the middle of the top hat by pulling together into a circle. Glue the edges together and add a small staple for additional strength if you want. By now ‘It’s So Easy’ and you’re probably already on that track so glue one end of the middle part to the bottom of the larger circle and the other end to the smaller one.
By now you’ll probably need to top up your glass of Jack Daniels before taking on the ribbon task. With each strand of ribbon take a blade of your scissors and drag the strand along the blade. If you’ve never done this before, this lovely lady will give you a helping hand.
Once you’ve done this, you’ll definitely need another glass of Jack Daniels and will probably also need to turn over the album by now – remember treat your vinyl with loving care.
The next part is easy, just cut another thin strip of foam, slightly smaller than the circumference of the inside of your hat, and then attach all the curly ribbons. Glue this to the inside of the hat and feed the bauble string through the cross in the middle of the smaller circle and place the hat on top of the bauble.
Phew, you’re almost done, so might as well pour yourself another Jack as ‘Anything Goes’. Once you’ve organised the ribbon ‘hair’ around the bauble, take the cigarette butt and glue it to the bottom right hand side of the remaining ‘face’ area. And that’s it – you’re done and have your very own Slash Christmas bauble.
Deck the halls and all that stuff.
