This month, the legendary Gothenburg band DESTINY celebrates 30 years as a band. They will celebrate the anniversary with new music, old music, a number of gigs and some “happenings”, from now until November 2013!
Way back in 1982, bassist Stefan Björnshög founded one of Sweden’s first true heavy metal bands, DESTINY! Unlike most other Swedish bands in the genre that was active around the period, DESTINY never broke up. In 2005 current guitarist Michael Åberg , who previously played with NOSTRADAMEUS, joined Destiny.
DESTINY has released six albums so far, with not just one but two more on the way. Following a tour opening for former BLACK SABBATH vocalist Tony Martin in 2006, DESTINY has had an unusually low profile, partly because of the search for a new good enough vocalist, but also because of illness and some personal tragedies. Now, however, DESTINY is finally back, just in time for their big anniversary.
The band have also announced their new vocalist, Jonas Heidgert. Jonas is a very talented musician and far from a newcomer to the metal scene. In 2000 he released his first of five albums with DRAGON LAND, where he both sang and played drums on the first two albums, before he chose to concentrate on the vocals on the last three. He has also recorded vocals for an album with DIABOLICUS as well as touring with both DRAGON LAND and the cover band METAL MONARCHS.
Now, in November 2012 Jonas became the new singer of DESTINY. He has already begun to record vocals for the upcoming anniversary album “The Incompatibility of Philosophical Terminology” (scheduled for release in spring 2013) and the next album “Global Warming“, where everything but the vocals is already recorded.
In December you will get the first taste of DESTINY with Jonas on vocals as a digital single from the “The Incompatibility of Philosophical Terminology” is released.
DESTINY has also launched its new website. The old site was sadly neglected, but now with a completely new design and regular updates www.destinymetal.com will be the given location for those wishing to get news of DESTINY and the anniversary year.
