LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe landed on U.S. soil this afternoon after spending more than a month at a Prague, Czech Republic prison on manslaughter charges. The singer boarded a direct flight to New York at approximately 1:00 p.m. CEST (Central European Summer Time) and made his way back home to Richmond, Virginia where he was expected to be met by his wife, Cindy Blythe.
On his layover in New York, Blytheupdated his Instagram with photo of him and a fan who came to the airport to greet him (see picture below). He also included this heartfelt message:
“I apologize for my absence. I had an unexpectedly lengthy layover in the Czech Republic.
“This lovely young woman named Lia came to the [New York City] airport just to say, ‘Randy, I’m glad you’re home.’ WHAT A SWEETHEART! Her boyfriend Gary had to work, so we called him on his cell.
“WE HAVE AWESOME FANS! How rad to be greeted by one for my layover in NYC.
“Soon I’ll be home in [Richmond, Virginia].
“Thanks for your good thoughts and prayers.
“I’ll release a statement soon.
“Yee-haw and God bless the U.S.A.!!!!!!!!!”
Blythe was arrested at the Prague airport on June 27 and was accused of shoving a local fan off the stage during LAMB OF GOD‘s May 2010 concert in the city. The man, who is said to have stormed the stage three times during the show, reportedly suffered a brain hemorrhage that resulted in his death nearly a month later.
After the court doubled Blythe‘s bail last month from about $200,000 to about $400,000, the prosecutor once again filed a complaint against the singer’s release.
A Prague court on Thursday (August 2) dismissed the request that Blythe be banned from leaving the country.
Blythe confirmed earlier today that he will return to the Czech Republic — if necessary — to face trial. “I’m an international touring artist,” he said. “I have to clear my name. So, yes, I will come back [to Prague] if I’m called to court.”

The elite South Coast Temecula Winery and rock band WARRANT have joined forces to create WARRANT‘s newest Cabernet Sauvignon!
The wine, named appropriately after the band’s hit song “I Saw Red”, is available in the Temecula Valley — where WARRANT guitarist Erik Turner has a home — as well as online to out-of-state wine lovers or collectors.
Official description: “Just like the band that inspired this wine, this Cabernet Sauvignon is bold rugged individualistic with dark and complex characteristics. Warrant, I Saw Red, Cabernet Sauvignon goes beyond the general descriptions and delivers even more. Rich, concentrated character that is layered with ripe black cherry, cassis and blueberry jam fruit aromas are underscored with modest herbal scents and warm, smoky oak tones. Full bodied and velvety upon first taste, this is a supple wine with great varietal intensity.”
Each bottle is hand-signed and numbered by the Turner. Due to limited supply, no discounts will be applied.

Bradley Dillon conducted an interview with Maryland-based experimental, progressive metallers PERIPHERY during this year’s “The Summer Slaughter Tour”. You can now watch the chat below.
“Periphery II: This Time It’s Personal”, the sophomore album from Maryland-based experimental, progressive metallers PERIPHERY, sold nearly 12,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 44 on The Billboard 200 chart.
“Periphery II: This Time It’s Personal” was released in North America on July 3 via Sumerian Records and will be made available in Europe on July 16 through Century Media Records. The CD features guest appearances by John Petrucci (DREAM THEATER), Guthrie Govan (THE ARISTOCRATS) and Wes Hauch (THE FACELESS).
In a recent interview with Metal Assault, PERIPHERY guitarist Misha Mansoor stated about the band’s musical progression since its debut record, “Our first album was pretty diverse, and with that we created a framework so that we could kind of experiment and push in any one of those directions, and not have it be something weird or something that sounds forced, you know. There’s always been an aspect of that sound and we’re just expanding on it further. And I think very true to that, that’s what we did on this album. We’re still kind of going in all of those directions, but a little bit further, and with a little bit more experience, you know.”
He added, “This album is PERIPHERY the band as opposed to my project with a bunch of dudes. This is really the first time we’ve been able to work together as a band and write an album together. I think that’s really cool because it’s not just me. You’re hearing so much more, you’re hearing something that’s greater than the sum of its parts.”
When asked about the bonus material that will be included with special editions of “Periphery II: This Time It’s Personal”, Misha said, “That’s going for the European release only, and it’s something we’ll release in other territories a little bit later. We did this track, it was Spencer‘s [Sotelo, vocals] idea. He really likes SLIPKNOT, and we were so tired in the studio that we wanted to break the pace and do something different. Spencer wanted to do this cover of ‘The Heretic Anthem’ by SLIPKNOT, and I actually played drums on it. I wanted to do it so differently that the engineer played guitar, and it was just a fun little thing. But we decided to put it up as a bonus track and I think it actually came out really cool. I’m really happy with the way it came out. And the other one is this instrumental track that I had to put together at the last minute. It’s a track we’ve been wanting to put out for a while now, and it worked out well. This is a good way to put it out. It’s an instrumental that we used to play live, called ‘Far Out’. So that’s how we compiled the bonus material for some of the territories.”

Audio samples of all the tracks that are set to appear on “Epicloud”, the next album from Canadian musician/producer Devin Townsend to be released under the DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT banner, are available in the YouTube clip below.
“Epicloud” will be issued on September 18 in North America and September 24 in Europe via InsideOut Music. The CD features a guest appearance by former THE GATHERING frontwoman and previous Devin collaborator Anneke Van Giersbergen.
The first taste of “Epicloud”, featuring the album’s intro, “Effervescent!”, is available in the YouTube clip below. Also available is the CD’s cover artwork.
Commented Devin: “This record is unique to me in that I became interested in simpler, commercial structures based on (I suppose) a reaction to [the previous the DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT albums] ‘Deconstruction’ and ‘Ghost’. I admit, it’s not too far removed, but far enough to take a few people off guard, I think.
“With ‘Epicloud’, I wanted something catchy as the flu, but with a sentiment that is romantic, positive and beautiful. Spiritual without religion and set to heavy music.
“Again, because some structures are ‘common’ (but new to me), this record is my take on what a big, epic, commercial sounding record that sings about nice stuff would sound like in Dev-land. Please don’t take it as a ‘sell-out’ move, because it truly surprised me as well and is a ‘transition’ between the four DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT records and my upcoming musical, ‘Z2’.”
Townsend debuted a song from “Epicloud” called “Back Where We Belong” during an acoustic performance on March 31 at Club Saw in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada as part of this year’s Junofest.
The idea for “Epicloud” came about while Devin was attempting to write material for the follow-up to his 2007 “Ziltoid The Omniscient” concept album about a fictional extraterrestrial being named Ziltoid from the planet Ziltoidia 9.
In a recent interview with Soundwave TV, Devin stated about how “Epicloud” was conceived, “In this sort of process of writing that I’ve discovered that I guess I’m capable of now, with a sober frame of mind, part of that is just not second-guessing it, so if I write something like that, I just do it, and just finish it.”
He continued, “Over the past couple of years, I thought, ‘OK, I’ve gotta write this next ‘Ziltoid’ thing; I’m inspired to make this epic space opera and, like, really overdo it, and [make it] really dark. And so I sat down to write, but every time I went to write, I’d write some poppy hard rock thing. And I was like, ‘OK, we’ll get that one out of the way and then I’ll write ‘Ziltoid’.’ And I got it out of the way and I’d go write ‘Ziltoid’. And I’d write another one. So I’m thinking, ‘OK, it’s pretty obvious to me that I’ve got this that wants to come out before that.'”
Regarding the musical direction of “Epicloud”, Devin told Noisecreep, “Over the course of the full record, there’s sort of new agey stuff, jazzy stuff, really heavy stuff. We basically cover the gamut. ‘Epicloud’ is the first record that I felt confident enough to include all those things on one record so it goes between melodic hard rock to schizophrenic heavy metal to country to really ambient stuff and it’s all in one place. I’m using a gospel choir, a string section and a horn section for this one as well. On [the DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT album] ‘Deconstruction’, I got to use the Prague Philharmonic [orchestra] and really go far into making an absurd album as over the top as possible and on ‘Epicloud’ I’m trying to take the same advantages to make some things musically very pleasing, as opposed to just claustrophobic.”
On the topic of his decision to re-record “Kingdom”, a song from his PHYSICIST album, which came out in 2000 on Townsend‘s label, HevyDevy Records, Devin said, “We re-did ‘Kingdom’ because it’s a live set staple, and so much better now than the PHYSICIST recording.”
