AOL has posted a killer gallery showing every mask worn by the members of Slipknot, from 1999’s self-titled album through 2008’s All Hope is Gone. This includes the giant “stone head” purgatory masks used to tease the band’s fourth album, as well as the death masks they wore for the “Vermillion” video. We’ve posted nine sample shots above, but you really need to check out the whole thing.
Slipknot‘s Antennas to Hell is available everywhere now; you can buy the single-disc version, the double-disc version with the band’s complete live set from Download 2009 on Disc Two, or the three-disc version including a DVD containing all the band’s videos, and the brand-new “Antennas to Hell” clips spotlighting individual bandmembers, all from the Roadrunner webstore!
A brand new DOWN song, “Witchtripper”, is available for streaming at RollingStone.com. The track comes off the band’s upcoming EP, entitled “EP One”, which will be released on September 18.
DOWN entered the studio last October to begin recording the first in a series of four EPs, to be released over the next few years (with a year between EPs), each touching on a different aspect of the band’s sound.
The first six-song EP, “EP One”, which heralds the sound of DOWN going back to its roots, with influences from BLACK SABBATH, SAINT VITUS and WITCHFINDER GENERAL, will be followed by the second collection of songs early next year, around the time of a planned U.S. tour. EPs three and four are scheduled for later in 2013.
“I have not really put too much pressure on myself with DOWN, and I think that’s the best approach,” vocalist Philip Anselmo tells RollingStone.com. “Right now I’m looking forward to the public’s consumption and letting them hear it. I’m not sure if it’s gonna break any ground. I never put any expectation on any friggin’ record I do. We didn’t overanalyze anything. We just let the songs kind of unfold, and once it felt right, there was no reason to go back.”
When asked about DOWN‘s plans to release four separate EPs, Anselmo recently said, “That’s the idea right now, but I think that after you work on a body of music, you need to reload, you need to refresh, you need to clear your head. Get that, digest it, get it out of your system, and then decide what direction you’re going to go. It’s a good idea and I think we should see it through. But there’s no way we can rush it. Because I think if it is a series of four, each one should be unique, and that… We’ve shown flexibility — we have songs like ‘Bury Me In Smoke’ and then we have songs like ‘Stone The Crow’… acoustic pieces and what-not… We have all that. So we’ve touched on many, I guess, dynamics, so… I would expect each EP to have its own life.”
Fan-filmed video footage of DOWN performing a brand new song, “The Misfortune Teller”, on May 29 at the Vinyl Music Hall in Pensacola, Florida can be seen below. The entire concert is available at this location.
Anselmo previously described DOWN‘s new EP as “very stripped down. Nothing flashy. Straight to the point… really just DOWN music. If you liked the first record, the demos… something like that… This record, we’re pretty dead straight and honest and on the money as far as making it as simple and direct as possible and I think we did that. . . It has that practice-room vibe to it. We didn’t really try and fucking slick it out and anything. We went the more raw route, as far as an approach.”
The track listing for the effort is as follows:
01. Levitation
02. Witchtripper
03. Open Coffins
04. The Curse Is A Lie
05. This Work Is Timeless
06. The Misfortune Teller
“Bleed & Scream”, the new video from Swedish hard rockers ECLIPSE, can be seen below. The song is the title track of the band’s fourth album, which will be released on August 28 via Frontiers Records.
“Bleed & Scream” comes four years after ECLIPSE‘s acclaimed album “Are You Ready To Rock”, which gained the band a solid reputation and a steady following, thanks also to their live appearances which culminated with dates as the opening act for DEEP PURPLE and a Firefest show in 2009.
ECLIPSE singer Erik Martensson has been busy producing and writing a number of successful songs and records for such artists as W.E.T., Toby Hitchcock, GIANT and Jimi Jamison. Erik and ECLIPSE guitaristMagnus Henriksson also wrote the track “Brothers In Arms” (originally an ECLIPSE cut), which was voted the No. 1 song of the year in MelodicRock.com awards for 2009.
In 2011 ECLIPSE regrouped to write what has now become “Bleed & Scream”. The bar was set high and the initial goal was to top “Are You Ready To Rock”. “We knew we had to do everything better on this album. If we couldn’t have achieved that we never would have released it! But boy did it turn out well! When it was taking shape we realized this was to be a monster of an album,” says Henriksson.
“With ECLIPSE we never think of what other people want or expect from us,” adds Martensson. “We write for ourselves and make the music we love to listen to. If I’d think of a perfect album this is how it will sound! And once the album was written the recording process went pretty smooth as we knew exactly what goal we aimed for. I’d say it’s our own pimped version of the classic hard rock we grew up listening to.”
“Every song has qualities as a single,” concludes Magnus. “Erik‘s vocals are way better than ever. The guitar sound is just awesome! The whole production is just in your face. It has something for everyone in it! We worked so hard at making this record that it drove us nearly nuts and made us wanna scream, but now it’s your turn to bleed and scream.”
“Bleed & Scream” track listing:
01. Wake Me Up
02. Bleed & Scream
03. Ain’t Dead Yet
04. Battlegrounds
05. A Bitter Taste
06. Falling Down
07. S.O.S.
08. Take Back The Fear
09. The Unspoken Heroes
10. About To Break
11. After The End Of The World
The first single, “Bleed & Scream”, will be exclusively distributed in Sweden through Sweden Rock Magazine in the issue that will hit the streets on July 17. This special release will include two exclusive bonus tracks (unavailable elsewhere): “Come Hell Or High Water” and “Into The Fire”.
ECLIPSE is:
