Canadian metallic hard rock band FAMOUS UNDERGROUND featuring ex-Slik Toxik singer (Juno Award winner) Nick Walsh signs management deal with Germany’s ROCK N GROWL MANAGEMENT. Video trailer for the upcoming epic video ‘Dead Weight‘ can be viewed below.
The group, consists of the following musicians: Nick Walsh – vocals, guitars, Laurie-Anne Green – Bass, Rick Corvese – Guitars, Darren Boyd – Guitars and Desche Sparboom – drums.
FAMOUS UNDERGROUND haven ever strayed from their life-long dedication to hard rock and metal music and lock the power and energy into 4-minute songs with great hooks. FAMOUS UNDERGROUND’S sound and music is edgy, melodic and hookybringing a paradigm shift to the arena of rock. It’s been said, that they have created something fresh and exciting in an otherwise stagnated genre. With the conclusion that no-one has definitive comparisons, Carl Begai writer with elite hard rock/metal magazine BW&BK describes the new recording as “it’s a darker if-Metallica-were-Guns-N-Roses direction with this brand new album.”
Nick says of the signing ‘we have been building relations with Axel for the past year and we all felt that the timing was right for us to finally seal the deal. We are totally pumped to have his passion and knowledge within the F.U. family.’
‘We have never had the right opportunity before to bring our brand of metal to the European market,’Laurie-Anne states. ‘The anticipation of playing on the European stages is very exciting to us and we are ready to come over and rock out.’
ROCK N GROWL & FAMOUS UNDERGROUND currently shopping the brand new self titled album, to find a suitable record deal very soon.

Polish Heavy Thrash metallers Neuronia offer up the latest instalment to their growing discography with the FREE to download EP ‘Insanity Relapse’ running in at a total playing time of 16 minutes 18 seconds of listening pleasure. Working alongside production master Pawel ‘Janos’ Grabowski (Antigama, Centurion, Disperse, Dianoya) who took care of the entire mixing and mastering process at the Progresja Studio this album has been met with great response all around the globe.
“We wanted to open a brand new chapter in the history of our band with this material”‘, says Michal “Misek” Rogala, who went on to state in response to working with Pawel Grabowski “We had the opportunity to work together on our last single, and it went great, so we decided to use Janos’ experience again, and it proved to be a fantastic decision. Thanks to his experience and a great ear for music, the sound of our new EP is flawless”.
For a 4 track EP, you really are given everything you’d expect from high octane riffs to melodies and progressions to keep you connected to the music all the way through. With a constantly moving groove keeping things alive and interesting there is never really a dull moment throughout.
Starting with ‘Alone in the Dark’ with the progressive structures and melodic harmonies taking this track into its own, add then the vocal combinations of ‘Maciej “Tektur” Nawrot’ and his powerfully interesting feature of riding along melody lines makes this a really interesting piece of music. Into the solo and it’s always nice to hear well crafted lead guitars working well within the music, the tonality is exceptional and delivered beautifully. A great starting track!
Another melodic track follows in with ‘3:33’ with haunting vocals commanding attention from the very start. In come the guitars and drums really opening this track up for more well thought out blasting, before the inevitable madness that are the solos combining clever pitch squeals (harmonics) and wah/wah intricacies blow your head off leaving you with a brief introduction from the bass before the song comes back to give you another beating. Exciting music at its best!
Let’s have a bit thrash shall we! Welcome to ‘Kick the Fuckers Out’. The old-school head bangers will love this one with everything just reminding you of growing up in this world of metal. Another brilliant song!
By far my favourite track, ‘Moon over Providence‘ opens up with excellently delivered metal phrasing with muting and squealing before the vocals take over and enhance the sound and experience a little further. It’s always a pleasure for me to hear well controlled tremolo bar activity combined with pitched harmonics in a track. Add to this the progressions of the drums and vocals which really take you into another era of music. Into the solo sections with high speed tapping sections and beautifully crafted speed picking, this really has everything. I want more!
If you really enjoy good metal then you’ll love this EP and seeing as it’s free anyway there’s no excuse not to go get it.
Brilliant!
10/10

Kennesaw, Georgia-based rockers JACKYL will release their new single, “Screwdriver”, next week. An audio sample of the song is available at Amazon.co.uk.
Video footage of guitarist Roman Glick of Kennesaw, Georgia-based rockers JACKYL laying down the theramin on the “Screwdriver” track can be seen below.
JACKYL ended 2010 with a bang by collaborating with Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame legend Darryl “DMC” Matthews McDaniels from RUN DMC on the single “Just Like A Negro”.
The single is available for purchase at Jackyl.com and comes with a limited-edition “JACKYL featuring DMC” poster. It can also be downloaded from iTunes.
Formed in 1990, JACKYL has enjoyed a career stretching two decades, bringing a hybrid of Southern metal to millions. From the band’s debut in 1992 via Geffen Records, through today, they are notorious as one of the hardest-working bands in rock. JACKYL holds two Guiness world records, one for staging 100 shows in 50 days, and another for performing 21 concerts in a 24-hour period. Jesse James Dupree and partner Michael Ballard also brew Jessie James Dupree’s America’s Outlaw Beer.
Video footage of Amanda Somerville (TRILLIUM) and Elize Ryd (AMARANTHE) recording backing vocals for KAMELOT‘s new album at Wolfsburg, Germany’s Gate studios under the direction of producer Sascha Paeth (EDGUY, AVANTASIA, RHAPSODY) can be seen below.
KAMELOT laid down the drums for the new CD at Morrisound Recording in Tampa, Florida with renowned engineer Jim Morris.
Due on September 25 (one day earlier internationally) via Steamhammer/SPV, the title of KAMELOT‘s new album will be revealed at the end of June, along with the name of the band’s new vocalist. Guitarist Thomas Youngblood says, “I have to say the fans will love the new singer. We love what we hear and that was the biggest test. Of course, there will be fans that hold on to the past and I understand that, but things change and you can either move forward or live in the past. I was humbled by the amount of singers that applied for the spot, some totally unknown and others are names that every metal fan would know. In the end, we chose the guy that fits KAMELOT in terms of sound, writing and image.
Youngblood on the style and content of the concept album: “The new songs sound more symphonic and melodic than our last two studio recordings. The material brings to mind albums such as ‘Karma’ (2001) and ‘The Black Halo’ (2005). In addition, this will be the best production that KAMELOT have ever delivered. Because while other acts tend to opt for low-budget productions due to the difficult market situation, we have gone the opposite way: the new album will be a real statement, in terms of our compositions as well as in terms of our sound.”
“Our new album marks another step and a new chapter for KAMELOT and our amazing fans!”
KAMELOT will support Finnish/Swedish symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH on a North American tour in September and October.
KAMELOT‘s recently completed North American, South American and European tours featured guest singer Fabio Lione of RHAPSODY OF FIRE following the departure of KAMELOT‘s longtime frontman, Roy Khan.

Founded in 2003 by Athros (Forteresse/Ur Falc’h) and Nordet (Ur Falc’h), Brume d’Automne have been considered as one of the forerunners of the “Métal Noir Québécois” movement. Blending raw Black Metal with Québec’s traditional/folkloric music Brume d’Automne opened up Québec’s Black Metal scene and helped shaped it as it stands today. After a 5 year break from the music Brume d’Automne came back on the scene in 2010 with a split 7″ with Forteresse and now are proud to be releasing their self-title 2012 album through Sepulchral Productions.
Mixing up post Punk with Metal chops and beats seems to be at the forefront of metal these days with Thrash metal taking centre stage, and yet with Folkloric/black metal being mentioned in their genre you almost expect to hear some resemblance to what you know about the field and the music, however, this is not always the case. If anything, from this album in its entirety ‘Brume d’Automne’ have taken the rawest segments from Thrash/Punk/Black metal/Folk metal and combined it into one mass of mess.
Song by song there really seems to be no definition between what is going on, and although you can sometimes hear individual items or phrases you have the overwhelming sound of being held underwater with all the muddiness in the mix. ‘Traditionnelle IV’ starts off with the heavy galloped riffs proudly used by metallers alike, before the vocal scream and the muddiness starts up. I found it almost too easy to skip through the tracks just to get as far away from the nonsensical noise that seemed to be at the forefront of this music, and although there are some interesting passages hidden deep within the tracks like the breakdown in ‘Saint Eustache – Traditionnelle V’ you really have to get there, which can be difficult.
Musically, and only musically, it is an intense listening experience not for the feint hearted. As a complete unit, it lacks any special characteristics that really define the music or expressions only to be replaced with overwhelming blasts of noise.
I found this entire album boring, but then you may like it you never know!
British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH recently entered Grindstone Studios in Suffolk, England with producer Scott Atkins (SYLOSIS, GAMA BOMB) to begin recording their tenth CD for a fall release. The band’s vocalist, Dani “Filth” Davey, states, “The album has now progressed into the mixing stage, with nothing more than the choirs and female vocals to be scraped into the smelting pot. All the music and my vocals have been committed (as have their protagonists!) to the greater picture and it all sounds truly amazing, rest assured worrisome warts, with the final two songs, ‘Succumb To This’ and ‘Nightmares Of An Ether Drinker’, titulary being added to the final roster.”
He adds, “The album has been split over two working studios; I have been based at CRADLE‘s resident studio Springvale under the helmsmanship of Mark Harwood for the last month or so, whilst the music has been captured not ten miles up the road at Scott Atkins‘ Grindstone studio, enabling us to work parallel to one another and thus aid not only the creative itch, but the speed of the recording process too. Though typically that very first day I started and for the first time in over fifty years, the local farmer decides to dig up two hundred-odd tonnes of earth from the plot outside the studio, and bury it behind a subsiding barn on the hill, using as many clanking leviathans of machinery possible. The utter cad!
“There is little point describing the new tracks as such as it’s downright obvious that the usual cliches of ‘it’s our best one yet’, ‘it’s much harder, darker, faster’ (been there, done that) and ‘this is going back to our roots’ may well apply, just be aware that, if anything, the album has a definite ‘Midian’ vibe to it, insomuch that it isn’t a conceptual album full tilt but more like lots of fabulous little satellites orbiting a main overarching theme. And that theme on this particular slay-ride is one of demons and monsters, both personal and world-enslaving, and the music peoples it perfectly.
“Musically we have tried new things, expanding on our ever-increasing canon to greater, more unbiblical effect with all instruments. Hence the music is unique, almost experimental in its dark places, but at heart still the CRADLE OF FILTH people have come to know, love and hate! Hence also why it’s almost impossible for me to paint this new pantheon in anything other than the absolute jet black that I usually do… for no matter how goresome it will inevitably be, we will always have our steadfast detractors like so many fat, unavoidable moths to our ever-growing flame (sits, sighs and weeps in a graveyard!).
“So, as it stands, we have entered the mix stage of this, as-yet-untitled tenth studio album with gusto. Everything is sounding better then we could’ve imagined, with a decidedly more (super) natural feel to the proceedings, from the slathering Titanomachian onslaughts of ‘The Abhorrent’ and ‘Siding With the Titans’ through to the savage, ravaging beast that is ‘Manticore’ and onto the blood-tinged nocturnal illuminaries that are ‘Illicitus’, ‘Pallid Reflection’ and ‘Death, The Great Adventure’, this album is packed to the Lovecraftian gills with Cradle classics….. I fib you not.
“And with so much already caught hissing and seething in the can, the release date of All Hallow’s Eve 2012 seems inevitable, preceded as it should be by the album’s first video release and a multitude of press… invariably to cover a multitude of sins!
“There is also news pending of our forthcoming European tour featuring none other than GODSEED and ROTTING CHRIST to whet your proverbial whistles, invading during the last wintry months of this year. Watch the skies for more information on this triple Xcursion very, very shortly.
“So, there you have it, we shall reconvene in a few weeks to survey the wreckage left over from the finishing of the mix. Hopefully then I shall regale you with a permanent album title (‘Shitsville’, ‘Smell the Glove’ and ‘My First Cradle Album – Complete With Crayons’ notwithstanding), final tour dates, a prospective first sneak-peak at one of the songs, the first of many album related competitions, news of the video and updated Summer merchandise. Christ, maybe even a cookery corner!”
