Sweden’s TIAMAT recently completed work on its tenth studio album, “The Scarred People”, at Woodhouse Studios in Hagen, Germany with producer Siggi Bemm. An October release via the band’s new label, Napalm Records, is expected.
Video footage of TIAMAT mainman Johan Edlund working on the “The Scarred People” album cover can be seen at this location.
TIAMAT‘s latest CD, “Amanethes”, was produced by Johan Edlund and was recorded mainly at The Mansion in Greece, with additional recordings taking place at Studio Mega in Sweden and Cue in Greece. The album was mixed and mastered by Siggi Bemm in Woodhouse Studios, Germany in January 2008.
Century Media Records released a limited-edition collector’s box from TIAMAT entitled “The Ark of the Covenant – The Complete Century Media Years”. Limited to 3,000 copies worldwide, this noble box set also includes two exclusive audio CDs, a numbered authenticity certificate, as well as a comprehensive 74-page booklet with all lyrics, terrific artwork, rare photos and extensive liner notes by Anders Iwers.
Slipknot percussionist/mastermind M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan was recently interviewed by Spin magazine, and he talked about the band’s upcoming compilation Antennas to Hell, his feelings about the band’s late bassist Paul Gray, and much more.
Says Clown, explaining why Antennas to Hell isn’t called Slipknot’s Greatest Hits or The Best of Slipknot, “‘Greatest Hits’ means one of three things to me. Either the band is breaking up, they’re trying to get off their record company, or they’ve become some pathetic infomercial at two in the morning and their label is sucking them dry while a couple of ‘rock star’ actors try to sell their shit when they should be jamming.”
He goes into some detail about Antennas to Hell‘s (amazing) artwork, saying, “I spent two months on the CD booklet. You don’t just get a little piece of paper that goes inside the album cover. You get a huge booklet of some sculpture, photographs and theory that kids can ponder, conceptualize and really enjoy.”
He also discusses his memories of Paul Gray, saying, “He used to live at my house. We used to run together on the weekends creating hell. I loved his music and I would never have had the chance to do what I’m doing if he didn’t believe in my art from the beginning.”

Industrial/Black Metal band ‘Borgne‘ have thrown out all the stops in creating the most powerful yet hypnotic metal Switzerland will possibly ever see. Combining dark textural ambient passages, phrasing and thirteen years of experience with many previous albums the ‘Royaume des Ombres‘ is set to be a next milestone in Black Metal.
The studio line-up was previously solely Bornyhake responsible for the Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Drums, Keyboards, Programming and Cellos, whereas now a live line-up consists of Bornyhake “aka” Ormenos (Kawir, Enoid, ex-Krigar) on Vocals, XaX (ex-Disaster, ex-Unborned, ex-Sword) Guitar,Lady Kaos (ex-Ipsum) Keys, Ardelean (ex-Krigar, Fosse, Euclidean) Guitar and Quaoar (Astral Silence) Bass giving us plenty of influences and high expectations whilst remaining technically up there with the best of the best.
Into the album and the cold dark textural ambiences which start off this magnificent album leave you almost haunted within yourself. with the moody introduction on ‘Fall of the Lost Souls‘ using a full mix of trance pads and sythns beyond everything else you could be quite easily listening to ‘Aphex Twin’s – Come to Daddy’ with the complexities and musical genius’s hidden within this track. Onto ‘Suffer As I Paid My Grave’ with body tingling nuances and melodies before the vocals start with the black metal growls and shouts which are simply exquisite to hear. Before long you are thrown back into the chilling breakdowns of Gregorian type choirs and effects combined with ‘Bornyhake‘ controlling the stage opening up everything for the listener.
Track by track you are given blasts of dark moody black metal at its finest, mixed with beautiful intro’s and acoustic sections like that in ‘All These Screams Through Me‘ with the water effects in the background this could be a relaxation/hypnosis track for the much chilled out metalhead alike. Once again, as the music opens up into the heavier sections the delivery and production are excellently done without any need to overcomplicate too many other sounds or instruments.
Gojira‘s awesome new album L’Enfant Sauvage comes out on Tuesday, June 26 (though you can pre-order it now), and we sat frontman Joe Duplantier down recently and had him go through it, track by track. He explains the lyrical messages of each song, the approach they took to the music, and more.
Here’s Part 1, in which he discusses the first four songs – “Explosia,” “L’Enfant Sauvage,” “The Axe,” and “Liquid Fire.” Parts 2 and 3 will be coming very soon.
