Tarja Turunen had her March 30 and March 31 performances at Teatro El Círculo in Rosario, Argentina professionally filmed for her upcoming concert DVD, “Act I”, tentatively due before the end of the year. Each of the two shows featured a different setlist with the exception of five songs, including three tracks from Tarja‘s time with her previous band (“Nemo”, “The Phantom Of The Opera” and “Over The Hills And Far Away”).
In other news, Tarja is in pre-production for her third solo album, which is expected to be released sometime next year. She says, “I have 25 songs where to choose the best ones for the album. Some of the musicians are already working on them with me.”
Turunen‘s latest project, HARUS, in December released a CD/DVD/Blu-ray, entitled “In Concert – Live At Sibelius Hall”.

Vocalist Maria Brink of Southern California’s IN THIS MOMENT taped a three-minute public service announcement (PSA) for the Musicians Opposed To Bullying (M.O.B.) web site addressing the ever-growing problem of bullying, and especially cyber-bullying — the use of technology such as the Internet and phone texting to harass or humiliate others. Check it out below.
Said Brink: “[Bullying] is one of the worst things that there is to do.
“When I was a teenager in school — like, 13 or 14 [years old] — I had a shaved head and I wore sweatshirts every day. Nobody ever knew if I was a boy or a girl and I was in something called ‘Focus,’ which was, actually, like the kids-at-risk program; they didn’t know if we were gonna graduate or whatever, and we were called burnouts. I completely, 100 percent got bullied, and I’d still stick up for myself and try to be strong, but it was always so deeply painful.
“What kids out there who are getting bullied need to know is that it’s not OK. There’s a lot of reach-out programs, people that you can talk to, people that can help you figure out how to get an answer to the problem. And if you are unique and you are different and you’re an artist and you don’t fit in with everybody else, what you need to realize is that that’s actually a blessing — that makes you unique and that makes you special — and in the long run, in the big scheme of things, it’s gonna be something that makes you have your own identity. Embrace who you are, and if people don’t understand you, that’s their own problem, that’s their own insecurities. They’re really the one with the problem — the people who are judging you and saying negative things to you, they are really the people with the problem, not you at all. And if you are the person [doing the] bullying, it is the most horrible, deep-penetrating, painful thing you can do to a young child who is striving to become who they are and to see what they wanna do. And it’s not cool at all. It doesn’t make you popular, it doesn’t make you anything. It actually is damaging to their lives, to their future. And if you see someone getting bullied, you need to step in and you need to be brave and you need to do the right thing and say, ‘This is not OK. It is not cool to treat someone mean or hurtful.’ People kill themselves over these things. People hide, they don’t have friends, and it’s not cool. So tell somebody. If you see somebody getting bullied, step in, be the difference. Make the difference.”
Matt Bahan of the 105.7 The X Rocks radio station in Peoria, Illinois recently conducted an interview with vocalist Ivan Moody of Las Vegas metallers FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH. You can now watch the chat below.
Speaking of FIVE FINGER‘s live performances, Moody said, “We made a promise to ourselves. We’ve toured with so many bands, and we’ve noticed that there are a few of them… METALLICA, RAMMSTEIN, TOOL — those aren’t bands, those are events. You go check out someone like RAMMSTEIN, man, and it changes your life. So we wanna be be one of those projects where people go, ‘You know what?! We’re not just going to see some band hunker around on stage with their guitars,’ which, of course, it always comes back down to. But we really want them to have an experience, man. ‘Cause we notice kids from six to eight years old all the way up to people that are my age. It’s overwhelming sometimes, but at the same token, it’s a responsibility that we’ve taken upon ourselves and we wanna be one of those artists.”
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH has confirmed the dates for Trespass America, the new summer festival tour the band is launching this year. The trek kicks off on July 13 in Broomfield, Colorado, hitting 31 cities before winding down on August 28 in Los Angeles. KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, POP EVIL, TRIVIUM, GOD FORBID, EMMURE and BATTLECROSS will round out the lineup of the metal-centric package.
The trek is a joint venture with Europe’s Metal Hammer magazine, which is sponsoring a U.S. tour for the first time.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH is touring behind its third album, “American Capitalist”, which came out last fall and looks likely to be the Las Vegas-based act’s third consecutive gold album.
Drummer Mark “Bam Bam” McConnell, who was a member of former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach‘s touring band from 1997 to 2005, passed away this morning (Thursday, May 24) in a Gainesville, Florida hospital. According to unconfirmed online reports, the musician’s liver and kidneys had shut down, which led to partial brain damage.
A relative of Mark‘s wrote on Facebook, “Mark passed at 9:42 this morning surrounded by family and close friends. We will miss him…he was precious to all of us and touched all our hearts deeply and profoundly. On behalf of our family, thank you to all of you for your prayers and support. We will post more info when we’ve had a chance to catch our breaths.”
It was only yesterday that Bach urged everyone to “say a prayer” for Bam Bam, calling McConnell “an amazing drummer and lifelong friend.” He added, “We love you, Bam Bam. You can kick this in the ass just like you play your drums!! Fight hard, buddy. We all wanna rock with you. We love ya, dude.”
In a 1999 interview, Bach stated about McConnell, “He is on fire. When we toured in ’98 with PANTERA, Vinnie Paul was like, ‘Man, how many fuckin’ pieces does your drummer have?’ And for Vinnie Paul to say that. . . And Mark has always been a powerhouse. I am the luckiest guy in the world because I have Anton Fig from David Letterman‘s band on all of the studio tracks for ‘Bring ‘Em Bach Alive’ and Mark on all of the live stuff, two of the greatest drummers in the world.”
