Former GUNS ‘N’ ROSES guitarist Slash admits he sometimes cringes when he hears new cover version of classic track ‘Sweet Child O’Mine’ – so it’ll be interesting to hear what he makes the of the take below.
It’s delivered in the style of 1920s New Orleans jazz by an outfit called POSTMODERN JUKEBOX, who just released an album of back-in-time contemporary songs.
The performance is helmed by guest vocalist Mich Braden. Bandleader Scott Bradlee says: “She returned to help us show what it would have sounded like if Bessie Smith had recorded it back in the 20s. That note at 3.58 was so powerful that the room shook!”
Asked which is the most lucrative song he’s ever written, Slash tells Metro.co.uk: “It was always about albums rather than singles, but I’d guess Sweet Child O’Mine because it’s the most covered.
“There are some really good instrumental versions for the piano or violin – but I’ve been horrified by some muzak versions. I’ve been sitting in a doctor’s office thinking, ‘That sounds familiar,’ and then realising it’s someone’s interpretation of what I’ve written. That can be a creepy feeling.”
In the same interview the axeman – who’s working on his third solo album – talks about his worst-ever gig, his passion for horror movies and the public misconceptions he has to live with. Meanwhile, Axl Rose’s GnR are gearing up for a second residency in Las Vegas.
