After a year off, Hammerfall blast back, rejuvenated, recharged and ready for “(r)Evolution!” Their last album, “Infected”, stirred up a little controversy, not least because band mascot Hector wasn’t on the cover, but he’s front and centre on this one, hammer aloft, and even gets his own metal serenade in the shape of first cut “Hector’s Hymn!” Fredrik Nordstrom, producer of the band’s first two albums, oversees the majority of the production, and to my ears, as a fan of the band since “Glory to the Brave”, he’s helped them to capture the essential core elements of their sound, whilst taking it forward. On the strength of “(r)Evolution”, it sounds like they could deliver the metal goods for many years to come, and enjoy a long career in the tradition of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Classic Hammerfall through and through!
