Polish death metal icons VADER are currently on their “Blitz South America In Fire Tour 2015”, which kicked off on November 19th in Belem/Brazil. Check out all the tour dates and venues on the poster below. Now the band has issued the tour blog for the days 0-2., read them here:
DAY 0 +1 – Piotr Wiwczarek:
The beginning of the tour was not easy… My journey started on October 17th at 3 PM in Miejska Wola (where is my home). First 4,5 hours by little bus from Lidzbark Warminski to Warsaw. Hotel on Chmielna Street in the capital. Next day I met my band mates in the airport at about 5 AM and we boarded on the flight of Air France to Sao Paulo (transfer in Paris). The whole flight was like 15 hours total. We arrived to Sao Paulo at 8 PM, we met James (He was flying from London through Amsterdam) and a core of tour agency: Hamilcar and Augustgo. Together we drove to hotel for short rest and shower and we were back to airport at 6 AM to fly to Belem in far North of the land. Another 4 hours travel. Local promotors picked us up and we all moved to hotel to get some sleep.
I could write a lot about the hotel itself, ants walking on walls or our bodies, about power cords hanging in shower cabin or overwhelming disaster. I save Your time tho. Unfortunately this was not last and biggest crap served to us by local promotor. This can be forgiven. However chaos and crap, not working PA or backline on stage can be never forgiven. We started sound check in Botequin club in Belem at 3 PM. We kept trying to find any solution (poor Daniel…) till 6:30 PM. No proper, working amps, no stands, burned D-boxes, damaged PA system….
Unfortunately for us, there was the UDO show in Belem in the same day and that show “stole” almost all, that local sound company had in their garage. (it was not easy for Them either, what we know from other sources). All in all we were able to play a song at the end and – in spite of crap sound and problem with wedges – we were ready for the show. There were 5 more bands that evening so we drove to hotel. We were back to the club at about an hour before our set supposed to start. Few hundred crazy maniacs in front of the stage hungry for Metal waiting…. After short preparation and line check we jumped in our stage armor, intro, entering stage and….. shit hit the fan. What is better description of playing “Wings” with NO kicks at all??? They appear for a second and disappear again. Over and over again… Guitars sound crap and one PA side sounds total differ then the other one. Additionally PA kept fading away during whole show. Nothing in our monitors on stage (we got something like overdriven signal later on). I lost 50% of morale after the first song. And that was just the beginning of that “joke”. I had to cut off few songs because of that shit.
There was of course a great mosh pit and stage divings in Brasilian style but… I still remember some surprised faces asking “what the hell is going on???” There was lack of kinda magic and sound attack, Vader is known from. Even fans screaming “Vader, Vader!” could not change the situation. I was feeling like famous hero cpt. Raginis by Wizna in 1939, when – in spite of great faith and motivation – hopeless situation and lack of proper weapon could not change destiny and failure. The situation was pretty much the same: we did not cancel the show and faced realities. We did it, though local promotor had no respect for the band nor for the Fans, who paid to see a good show. I mean LOCAL promotor of course. Tour agent, who was with us, was also shocked with the lack of respect to the signed contract, like our. All and all it was probably the worse performance (sound-wise) as far as I remember. Our huge respect to ALL Fans and crazy Maniax, we met in front of stage !!!! They went crazy and They made the show indeed. Hail to You \m/ \m/
After that “show” all I wanted was to leave that place. Even the best vodka drink made by Daniel could not change my feelings that night….Hotel, ants, shower, rest….Day off tomorrow.
DAY 2 – James Stewart:
There’s not too much to say about this particular day off. We got back from the concert at 4am (having started at around 1:30am – so technically our ‘day off’ began with a show!) and everyone went straight to bed. We spent the morning just hanging around the hotel just trying to sleep until 13:00 when we went for breakfast in a restaurant close by. After that, we went back to the hotel for around another hour to pack, sleep and wait for our bus to take us to the airport.
Upon arrival while we were checking in we spotted the guys from UDO who also were playing in Belem the night before. We all really wanted to go over and say hi but we were in the middle of a baggage argument with the airport staff and we couldn’t leave. We then split into two groups to deal with two very important things – Pete’s team who went looking for coffee and Daniel’s team who went looking for whiskey. I was part of the latter. We were unable to find any whiskey (or any other spirits) so, doomed to be sober; we headed for the gate only to find that our plane was delayed.
After much hanging around we finally made it to the plane. It was a very small plane with only around 30 seats and it didn’t inspire a huge amount of confidence. Two hours later we made it safely to the city of Teresina (located approximately 4km from the sun) and were met by the promoters and taken to the hotel for a short rest before an incredible dinner with lots of different Brazilian food and lots of beer. After a long rest we’re sitting in the hotel now all feeling totally ready to burn Teresina tonight….
