Polish death metal icons VADER have recently concluded their “Blitz South America In Fire Tour 2015”. Now the band has issued the tour blog for the days 19-20., read below:

Day 19: Cali – Piotr “Peter” Wiwczarek

To the next show in city of Cali we traveled by van. „Junk Mercedes” disappeared …. good 😉

There were no mountains, so we expected 250 km long trip to be not more then 3 hours drive. Wrong! We were traveling squeezed like chips in a box, with our backs twisted and with no AC (if open windows is not a kind of that) for …7 hours! Then it was classic: soundcheck , hotel and – this time pretty late show. Telling the truth all was running so quick to me this evening. I was totally exhausted after all the travels in last days. I just remember that the show was good, though I hear completely nothing on stage. Colombian Fans were great indeed! SALUT \m/

Day 20: Medellin – James Stewart:

We arrived at the hotel in Medellin after travelling through the night from Cali. After dropping our bags in the rooms we headed straight upstairs to the rooftop restaurant for breakfast. I was too tired to eat but I did enjoy watching Daniel and Halik try to explain to the waitress that spoke no English that they were hungry and would like some food. After some rest we headed to the venue for set up and soundcheck. The backline was excellent and the local crew were easily one of the best on the tour though we still had the obligatory technical issues that meant we finished around 30 minutes after the first band were meant to start. Of course now our preparation time was cut very short, so we went back to the hotel for about 90 minutes to nap, shower, take a coffee and a very short warm-up and then returned to the venue. The show was totally crazy! There were so many people in such a small venue all coming out to support Vader and the scene. We cannot thank you enough and we shall certainly be returning! After another late finish we returned to the hotel to rest and prepare for the final leg of the tour – Mexico….

Day 17: Bogota – Piotr “Peter” Wiwczarek

After morning incentive and short flight we arrived to Colombia. I recalled our previous tour in South America with Marduk, when we were deported to Ecuador after local promotor did not make paper work properly. This time all went cool and quick and guards helped us in immigration procedure instead of pushing us with machine guns back to the plain. We were picked up by local promoters and drove to the hotel by tide vane (with stuff on our knees). The difference in comfort between Panama and Colombia was so huge Spider got a room with …no window). Something like cheap hotels for workers in Poland in 80’s. There was no better situation in the club either. We lost many hours until all was working properly. All had to be set up from scratch. Sound desk was situated in small backstage ASIDE the stage 😉

The show was but absolutely amazing! Club was filled up to the limit and Fans were moshing non stop. We ended quite late and after few pictures and signing we just drove back to hotel.

Day 18: Menizales – Piotr “Peter” Wiwczarek

This time we had „ground transportation”. 300 kilometers long distance supposed to be made in 6 hours. But it took more than 11 tho… Small Mercedes bus – build yet in 70’s I guess – picked us up about 11 AM. 90% were mountain roads with never ending curves. The quality was more like in Ukraine than in Germany. On the way we pulled over to eat something in small road bar in a little town. It was grill this time. It was like a travel back in time… Urinals next to the tables, where people were just eating their lunch, old style juke box with immortal Wham! or country like style of interiors. We did not meet Wojtek Cejrowski tho 😉

However our bus ceased to work properly. Soon we had to stop for a minute after each 200 meters drive. It was real scary with all the abyss around and big tracks charging in front of us. It was deep night too. No fun at all… About 20 km before our destination the bus died. Next hour was fixing it and a coffee in the road bar. Spider found a wooden mask in a gift store. Drivers fixed (no idea how?) engine at last and after almost 12 hours trip we arrive at the venue. Benediction was already seeing up on stage (it was small festival). For next hour Daniel was working with sound system and stage setting and we were preparing gear and uniforms. All were tired totally. Fans too… It was already after midnight and there was still a lot of freaks in front of stage till the end of our set. However it was not as wild as a day before in Bogota tho. Then hotel and BED !!!

Day 15: OFF in Panama – James Stewart:

After a long journey through the night from Quito we arrived in Panama. The first thing we all noticed was the humidity. Truly unacceptable. So then Daniel formulated a plan to hit the beach and spend the rest of the day there. Spider and I agreed that it was a smart idea so we travelled to the hotel (with 5 passengers squeezed into 4 seats), unpacked, got some short rest and a shower and met downstairs a few minutes later. From there, our promoters Carlos and Igor took us straight to the sea to a restaurant outside of town. It was without a doubt the best meal of the tour (the guys took grilled meats and I had a selection of fresh sea food) and we had an excellent view of Panama city. After this we drove back via the harbour and then through the city for a short tour. It reminded me very much of Singapore with lots of skyscrapers, tall buildings and fancy hotels and restaurants. After returning to the hotel, we were invited to Carlos’ bar – Hangar 18, where we would be playing the next day. We first decided take a few drinks up the swimming pool and relax a little before venturing out. We were met by another Carlos, who then drove us to the bar where we were able to meet with some fans, shoot some pool and enjoy the covers band. After a very long day, we decided to retire for the evening.

Day 16: in Panama – James Stewart:

In the morning Spider, Daniel, Augusto and myself all met in the lobby to go to another beach, further out of town where we could enjoy the sun and actually swim in the sea. It was like from a commercial – sun, white sand and very warm water. By now we were feeling extra relaxed but on the road back we were almost involved in a serious traffic accident when a truck jack-knifed and spun in the road leaving us thankfully alive and unharmed but the highway completely blocked and in danger of missing at least the soundcheck if not the whole show. It took another truck to tow the other to allow traffic to pass and we were very lucky that the delay was only 25 minutes or so. After soundcheck, we headed back to the hotel for a short rest and some food and then returned to the venue for the show. It was an awesome gig with a totally packed venue and lots of energy from the fans! Igor and Carlos told us that they were working very hard to build a metal scene in Panama and even in it’s early stages, it’s looking very promising. I predict a lot of bands will start playing there over the next few years.

Day 13: OFF – James Stewart:

Me, Daniel, Augusto and Hamilcar arrived first in Quito after a 20-hour journey (some issues with flights meant that we had to travel in 2 groups). Daniel was flying business class and so could sleep well for much of the journey but the rest of us mortals had to do with standard economy class and so were pretty tired. We were met by the promoter and taken to the hotel (actually a friend’s apartment) and it was here that I was informed I would be playing a drum clinic in less than five-hours time and that 9 people had already confirmed attendance. Instead of sleeping I spent the next few hours thinking through in my head what I could prepare at such short notice.

The time arrived and we travelled to the venue (which was actually a house in the middle of the city) and I had a short time to set up and then I began. I played through a few Vader songs, explained something about my practice routine, played a few more songs, demonstrated some other styles and techniques and took some questions – In total 11 people came and they all had great questions and were listening very carefully. Everybody seemed to have a great time and I hope that everyone came away from the clinic with some new ideas and things to practice! Then we packed down, had a beer to celebrate the end of a very stressful couple of days, and I was then taken to a signing session in a nearby bar. We spoke with a lot of fans (many of whom were at the drum clinic 10 minutes earlier) and then finally retired to the apartment to eat a quick meal and rest before the next show.

Day 14: Quito – Spider:

In spite of all the problems from last day full of travelings and night walking I woke up pretty early and really rested indeed. Quito is a city built over 2800 meters above see level and I heard, that many have breathing problems, though I was feeling like a „young god”. We stayed in a very weird place in the city center called „NoLugar” and it was kind of apartment for the artists. Low quality rooms filled with arts or private stuff. Many „artistic persons” had to spend time before I guess. Me and Peter had single rooms on second floor linked to the patio, by the roof. I was admiring beautiful city view from out there. There was great weather so I decided to do laundry. I found something like laundry post on patio so I used it. I had so much fun so even my wife was laughing after I sent some pictures. „Too bad You are not as helpful in the house” – She said 😉

After accomplished mission we all were waiting for local promoter – James, to go to the city together. We left about noon. We saw several interesting places like the Ecuador President’s habitat. Finally we met on the central square , ate lunch and found some souvenirs. About 4 PM we moved to the club to make a soundcheck. I was ready for any surprises tho. It was delay because of all the problems with bad conditions in the club. It was rather pretty small club and it took time until we controlled and fixed all those problems. In the meantime I did short interview for local TV chanel. Then we drove to our new dayroom close by. We saw hundreds of police and other military units around ready for riots. The government has just changed and They were afraid of problems.

The show was damned crazy indeed! Crowd was so intense and brutal all the time. Divings, crowd surfing , mashing…. real massacre! We barely could leave stage after all.

So – in spite of all problems with hotel, backline etc the concert was so great indeed! I will never forget Fans in Ecuador. For the atmosphere , madness and Heavy Metal support! Gracias \m/

Day 11. – Tomasz Halicki

Next city on the tour was Limeira. This is not too big town (population about 300.000) and is situated near Sao Paulo, so we were able to drive by a van. Travel was short tho. First hotel then lunch (great food indeed !!!!) and then show. It was a good one!!! I changed pretty quick and was watching MASTER and ONSLAUGHT playing just after. We were hanging around during ONSLAUGHT show and then… Most of our team got back to hotel but James, Augusto and me stayed in the club to watch next show – however it was country music and different crowd. It was fun tho 🙂

Me and Augusto were “fighting” to the end even after country music was over. There were two accordionists at the bar and they started to play some native hits. Singing and dancing crowd gathered around them too. Bartender started to serve free drinks and then…Somebody turned the light off… 😉

Day 10. – James Stewart:

Wake up (some with hangovers others not), get on a plane, get stressed by the turbulence and think you’re going to die, land with sweaty palms, check in to the hotel, eat, load in to the venue, set up, sit in the venue and wait for Daniel to fix everything, go back to the hotel, warm up, show, party and repeat. This time, we had the added help of Henry, our tech from the previous tour in Brazil. We were already running very late with a strict curfew and four support bands, so there’s no doubt that having an extra pair of hands totally saved our show! We went through all the necessary soundcheck grief of cables being wired incorrectly and nothing working as it should, then went to the hotel (which thankfully was next door) to rest up before the show. The concert itself was great! A really killer crowd, ready for Vader and I think we made a good impression! We had only a short drive to the next show and because of an early curfew, we had some free time finally! What cultural sites did we visit? A burger bar, obviously. Of course there was the standard Vader afterparty – too much food, too many drinks and not enough time! After that we returned to the hotel to rest up before the journey to Limeira…
