Italy, Turin based 8-member Symphonic metallers AEVUM released their outstanding new album “Dischronia” on March 17 2017, via Maple Metal Records, and it’s available for free Streaming on the band’s Youtube Channel, here. Formed in 2008, AEVUM‘s music is in perpetual inclination towards the union between the human being and the divine, between opposites, male and female, positive and negative, in a genre that is a bond between the neo-classical and gothic metal worlds. AEVUM are known for their theatrical Live Shows, and have toured all over Europe with Haggard, Vision Divine, Blaze Bayley (ex-Iron Maiden), and performed at various Metal Festivals in Italy, since their inception in 2007. In February/March 2018, AEVUM will join the oriental metal pioneers, ORPHANED LAND, on their “Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs” tour in Europe.
Just recently Metal Shock Finland‘s Tarja Virmakari had a chance to interview the band, read below:
Hi Guys, welcome to Metal Shock Finland! Let’s start introducing your band, AEVUM. Eight members are quite a lot for a band line-up, why this choice?
Hi everybody! Yeah..what a bad choice! (haha)… Sometimes to be eight musicians is a logistic problem, but we wanted to have a big impact, and like an orchestra, with more musicians we could express our sound in different ways. Today we do not regret this choice.
Does it give you any practical issues to find time for rehearsals and live shows?
Yeah, when you are eight members living in different towns the worst thing is to find the time to rehearsal. However, we survived long these years, so we are quite good to find every time a solution to our logistic issues.
You play Symphonic metal, taking flavours from neo-classical gothic metal. Was this clear since the beginning or how your sound has progressed in these years?
Certainly, we evolved during the time, at the beginning our sound was more linked to the typical gothic metal, now is more progressive and electronic oriented.
“Dischronia”, our last album, has more impact than the former “Impressions”, and we are very sure that the next one will evolve too. We are musicians, and we don’t like to do the same music for ever, during the time we collect new experiences and these will transform our sound too. Like the philosopher Eraclito said : “Panta rei” (everything evolve), we are sure that our sound will evolve all the time.
You write: “AEVUM‘s music is in perpetual inclination towards the union between the human being and the divine, between opposites, male and female, positive and negative.” This tells me that your band philosophy has all the right ingredients to become a Saga… or maybe you’ve already thought about it?
Why not?! Maybe we could search a producer for this new Saga! Certainly our music is like a clash, a struggle between different elements, and you can describe our sound in different ways… tender, harsh, dark, light, progressive. We like to express different feelings through our songs and sometime changing atmosphere we can depict a bigger colourful canvas.
March 17th (2017), you released your outstanding “Dischronia” album. How it has been welcomed among your fans and audience?
Sincerely, very well! Dischronia obtained many good feedback and excellent reviews around the world, and this is a huge gift for us, after many months of hard work.
Now we want to perform live our album and we are very thrilled to join Orphaned land in 2018 on their European Tour!
Since the album is out, you released it right away for free streaming, why this choice? is it a bit harmful concerning the album sales?
Sure, but our first goal is to spread our music around the world and today the best way is through the social media. Youtube changed totally the way to watch and listen to music and so we decided to let people get our album free.
How do you see the general Symphonic/gothic metal situation developing both in Italy and the countries you’re involved with?
Social media changed totally the way to listen to music, to follow gigs and so the Italian metal scene and the international as well. There are so many positive aspects, for instance is quite easy to reach people very far from you, but in the meanwhile, there are so many negative aspects too. Today is quite difficult to find your space, there are so many good artists, and people are less and less interested to support bands during live shows. So, in our opinions, the metal live scenes are getting worst, but maybe we have to evolve, to transform that. We have only to discover how…
So far, you’ve released 3 singles/videos from the album, “The Vitruvian Condition”, “Death of the Virgin”, and “The Elements”. What would you like to tell me about these songs? can they be considered as a synopsis of the entire album?
These three songs represent three different canvas and artists, Leonardo, Caravaggio and Canova. We wanted to depict different atmospheres and we reach this goal.
For instance, inside The Elements you can listen to a harsh sound linked to a tender one, and then, just in the middle everything gets mad thank to electronic metal step. These three songs, like all Dischronia songs are just different chapters of a big tale.
With your own words, tell me about the “Dischronia” album concept and the message you want to transfer to your fans through it…
Dischronia, is a travel, around time and space where a modern wanderer, inspired by the most important Italian masterpieces, complete his spiritual growth becoming enlightened. Our life is a trip full of problems, issues, and we have to deal with them, so the arts represent the best ways to survive and to become part of this magic universe.
Last year (March 2016) you signed a deal with ALPHA OMEGA Management. Talking about the band management in generally, we’re used to hear many pro-and-con opinions around. How do you see the necessity of a management agency and what are the benefits to the band?
We are very happy about the partnership with A&O. Today there are so many good bands and artists and so you need someone that could represent you and try to get you the spotlight needed to reach a bigger audience. A real good agency, like A&O, can offer to the bands this kind of help and we thank our agency for the opportunity to tour with Orphaned land in 2018.
Talking about the live shows, just recently you unveiled that you’re preparing a European tour with your management. Can you reveal something more about it?
In December, we kick off our European tour through Swiss, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Spain and, for us, is a real honour to join Orphaned land tour in 2018. We are preparing something special, and like always, we are working hard to give to our audience the best live show possible. So we invite you all to come to see us, we are sure you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks for your time for this interview! Wishing you all the best for the future, the word is yours, what is your message to our worldwide readers?
