APHYXION are setting the sails again, this time with their first ever feature partner.
OCEANS OF TIME is a real metalcore banger with all element’s fans will be expecting or hoping for: Fierce growls meet catchy choruses, all of which with the support of vocalist Jan Listing from the band’s new label mates CHAOSBAY. Their first ever collaboration partner for a duet also appears in the new video.
Check it out below:
The single focuses on the magic moment before a human being’s transition from life into death. It appears as a junction: Looking back at a whole life span while struggling with the uncertainty of what is to come now: Is it a nowhere or a somewhere?
Lyricist and singer Michael Vahl comments on the genesis of ‘Oceans Of Time’
‘I like working with intertextuality and have been doing so in almost all my lyrics since we started the band back in 2007. Interpreting and conveying a text or media into something new has become a big part of our lyrical expression, and that is also the case in Oceans of Time.
I remember seeing “American Beauty” in my early teenage years – probably just around when the band started. I was completely absorbed by the ending monologue, which is basically a speech about the beauty of life – delivered by a dying person with a stoic inner peace.
In the lyrics for Oceans of Time, I revisit the monologue – but this time out of the context from the movie, which makes it even more open for interpretation.’
As the song was in the final stages of production, the band tried many different variations on both different bridges and the chorus of the song and got near desperation on how to bring the song to full blossom. All of a sudden, a new best solution entered in the shape of a collaborating artist. The band elaborates on this turn of events:
‘We’ve been wanting to have a feature on one of our songs for a long time, but without really having an idea of who would be a good fit. As we joined the roster of Circular Wave, we came to know the guys from CHAOSBAY – and instantly, we knew that this would be a fit. Jan Listing is a great vocalist with an enormous range, and he has brought so much good to the song.’
‘Oceans Of Time’ is OUT NOW via Circular Wave
APHYXION are not ones to succumb to genre definitions, and the release of their third full-length album ‘Void’ in 2019 marked the switch from their death metal heritage towards a more contemporary metalcore sound, creating something that elevated the band to a new level. This band keeps moving boundaries, for themselves but also for their ever-growing fanbase.
They were the youngest band ever to play at Wacken Open Air and have also had the opportunity to support the likes of Metallica, Soilwork and Soulfly, accumulating more than 450 shows all over Europe to date.
