Louisville crossover thrash maniacs BELUSHI SPEED BALL have officially unleashed their long-awaited new album, Toxic Waste Was Everywhere In The ’80s, available everywhere today. The band’s latest collection of riff-fueled chaos arrives following months of anticipation generated by singles “I Ought Not Know,” “How Tough Am I?,” and “I’m Not Your Buddy, Guy.”
Equal parts neck-breaking thrash, pop culture obsession, and complete absurdity, Toxic Waste Was Everywhere In The ’80s captures BELUSHI SPEED BALL at their most focused, ferocious, and feral. Across twelve tracks, the band channels their trademark blend of crossover aggression, tongue-in-cheek humor, and DIY creativity into what may be their most fully realized release to date. The album also marks the recording debut of bassist Justin McClure and drummer Ben Cotton, further expanding the band’s ever-evolving brand of controlled mayhem.
Featuring artwork from acclaimed illustrator Andrei Bouzikov and production, mixing, and mastering by Chase Bensing, Toxic Waste Was Everywhere In The ’80s delivers a nonstop barrage of mosh-ready riffs, infectious hooks, and references spanning everything from South Park and SpongeBob SquarePants to Wayne Gretzky, “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia,” Captain Planet, and beyond.
Coinciding with today’s album release, BELUSHI SPEED BALL has unveiled the track “All Pete’s Exes,” featuring former GWAR guitarist Pete Lee (Flattus Maximus). To accompany the song, the band has launched a limited-edition benefit t-shirt, with all proceeds going directly to Lee as he continues to navigate longstanding health challenges stemming from injuries sustained during a violent carjacking decades ago.
The fundraiser serves both as a show of appreciation for Lee’s guest appearance on the album and as an opportunity for fans to support a beloved figure whose contributions to heavy music continue to resonate throughout the metal community. About BELUSHI SPEED BALL:
Belushi Speed Ball is a Kentucky-based band founded in 2013 as a studio project amongst friends with a penchant for cliché crossover thrash. Their first live performances came soon after, enthralling a rapidly growing fanbase with a uniquely interactive brand of theatrics and unorthodox approach to releases and merch.
Dubbed “one of the funniest fucking things I have heard this year” by The Needle Drop’s Anthony Fantano, Belushi Speed Ball are inspired by bands from Toxic Holocaust and Anthrax to Gwar and Municipal Waste, to whom they simultaneously play homage and satirize a mean comment from a fan in their song “Ripping off Municipal Waste”, which was voted one of Leo Magazine’s top 20 songs of 2022. With a reputation for both trashing venues and meticulously cleaning them up after each individually themed performance, Belushi Speed Ball are masters of executing the unthinkable. From playing out of a Mad Max-esque moving van and starting Terminator-inspired 300-person Nerf gun fights to releasing entire albums in N64… or Furby… formats, nothing is sacred as they continue evolving as, in the words of Metalsucks, “a freakshow of blistering thrash dedicated to laughing its ass off at blistering thrash.”
