Swedish rock powerhouse Satan Takes A Holiday return with their new single Dream Baby Dream, released June 19 via Icons Creating Evil Art, continuing the second chapter of their ambitious album project Covering Our Tracks, culminating in the full album release on September 18.
Following the releases of State Trooper and Good Ones, the band now take on one of the most revered and untouchable songs in alternative music history: Dream Baby Dream by the legendary New York duo Suicide. First released in 1979, the song has inspired generations of artists through its hypnotic repetition, emotional intensity and haunting sense of hope and longing.
Rather than attempting to recreate the sparse minimalism of the original, Satan Takes A Holiday approach the song from an entirely different angle. Their version preserves the dreamlike atmosphere and emotional core while expanding it into something larger, louder and more cinematic. What begins in a haze of longing gradually unfolds into soaring indie rock crescendos, transforming the song into a grand and euphoric celebration without losing its hypnotic pulse.
“Dream Baby Dream, the greatest song in the world. It just is. A mad undertaking, but we couldn’t help ourselves. And with the greatest song in the world, the result could only be something different. Even for us.”
The result is both reverent and fearless — a reinterpretation that embraces the weight of the original while allowing Satan Takes A Holiday‘s own identity to shine through. By blending shimmering melodies, towering guitars and their trademark sense of urgency, the band uncover new dimensions within a song that many would consider impossible to improve upon.
With Covering Our Tracks, Satan Takes A Holiday are not simply paying tribute to the artists that shaped them. They are exploring how great songs can evolve, crossing genres, generations and expectations in the process. From Bruce Springsteen to Charli XCX, and now Suicide, each release reaffirms the band’s unique ability to find common ground between seemingly distant musical worlds.
As Covering Our Tracks continues to unfold, Satan Takes A Holiday further cement their reputation as one of Sweden’s most adventurous and uncompromising rock bands — honoring the past while relentlessly pushing forward.
Over the years, Satan Takes A Holiday have built a strong international following through extensive touring across Europe and high-profile support slots with acts such as KISS, The Sonics, Juliette Lewis, Backyard Babies and Imperial State Electric. Their releases have earned praise from Classic Rock, Louder Sound and Rock Hard, alongside radio support from BBC 6 Music — including spins from Iggy Pop — as well as Sweden’s P3 and Bandit Rock.
