Alternative Metal Veterans GF93 Break 22-Year Silence with Reimagined EP “Intercession, Temporary Return”

After 22 years away, GF93 are back with “Intercession, Temporary Return,” a new EP that revisits their legacy through a darker sonic lens, featuring three iconic tracks from the band’s catalogue reimagined for a new era.

The release strips down and resurrects three of GF93’s most iconic and defining songs: “Crist Buck RU,” “Demonology,” and “Lost Boy.” Reimagined with slowed-down tempos and layers of reverb, the tracks take on a darker, more atmospheric dimension, as if echoing from the depths of the Earth.

GF93 formed in 1996 and built a reputation on an uncompromising, elitist approach to their sound across three studio albums. Their 1997 debut, Beaten, was produced by Paolo Favati (Einstürzende Neubauten, Pankow, Dive) following a year of pre-production, and released through Worldloop/Dune Records. The album drew on the industrial/metal sound of the era and combined the sensibilities of founder Carlo Bellotti, previously of black metal act Necromass, with Favati’s production approach. Beaten performed well commercially and built the band a dedicated following in Italy.

The band’s second album, Goetia Fetish 19.93, followed in 1999–2000 on UK label Copro Records, with production by Dave Chang (Earthtone9, Stampin’ Ground) and distribution through Plastic Head across Europe. The record introduced a heavier, more melodic and hardcore-influenced sound and expanded the band’s reach across the continent. In support, GF93 toured the UK with Misery Loves Co. and Snub, toured Italy with Earthtone9, and played support slots for NOFX, W.A.S.P., Ultraviolence and Swamp Terrorists, alongside a headline set at the Beach Bum Festival’s Tent Stage. A video for “Sleepless” received national rock television airplay.

Following lineup changes that brought in Fabba, Korea, and Vittorio, the band worked with producer Alessandro Paolucci (Westlink) on their third album, Convulse All-Star, recorded and mixed by Martin Barbour (Vacant Stare, Medulla Nocte, Forever Until October, Fony) and released October 22, 2002, through Copro Records/Plastic Head. The album reached the Top Ten of the Rock FM chart, received coverage from Total Rock, Music Choice, Shoutweb and Pimp Rock Palace, and was supported by a video for “Eight Years,” featuring Patrik Wirén of Misery Loves Company. The band appeared on MTV, Rete A All Music, Matchmusic, and Rock TV, and the album prompted a remix EP through Mechanism Records.

GF93’s fourth album, OSR (Own Style Research), followed on November 8, 2004, through Incendiary Records with M-System/SELF distribution, and included a collaboration with Godcity Studio in Boston.
