SACRIVERSUM were formed in 1992 in Łódź (Poland), playing old school Death Metal with progressive elements and atmospheric sounds, making their complex mixture special and unique. Their debut album „The Shadow Of The Golden Fire“ was released in 1994, at a time when a lot of Death Metal bands started to push their boundaries and became more experimental.
This year in may, SACRIVERSUM released their highly acclaimed new album „Before the Birth of Light“, which has received overwhelming reviews worldwide. Some magazines called them „the Deep Purple of Death Metal“, which describes their sound perfectly.
Before their split in 2005, SACRIVERSUM released four more studio albums, incl. the successful „Soteria“ (1998) album, with hits like „Meditates“ and „Overwhelming Monuments“, which is still part of the live-set. With new members joining, the band headed towards a more Doom/Gothic direction, often compared to dutch ORPHANAGE or the early works of TIAMAT, OPETH and PARADSISE LOST. „Beckettia“ (2000), „Mozartia“ (2003) and „Sigma Draconis” (2004) followed – all of them with interessting lyrical concepts, about ancient philosophy and the works of Samuel Beckett and Mozart.
Today, all those four records are finally available on all digital platforms for streaming and downloads.

Soteria
„It was the mid-1990s and our band was going through changes, both in terms of our line-up and our style. We wanted to move towards melody, melancholy and heaviness rather than just speed. Only two members remained from the original Sacriversum line-up: two new guitarists, a female vocalist and a new keyboardist had joined. This was a globally intense period of growth for gothic metal, with bands such as TIAMAT, AMORPHIS, THE GATHERING, PARADISE LOST, EDGE OF SANITY and ORPHANAGE emerging. They all inspired us, but we wanted to forge our own path.
Some tracks from this album, such as ‘Overwhelming Monuments’, later appeared on various promotional compilations, and people still remember them to this day. With this in mind, we have prepared live versions of these tracks with our current line-up, which we sometimes perform live. There are fans who value this particular album above all others.“
Beckettia
„This is a concept album with lyrics inspired by the works of Samuel Beckett. I was heavily influenced by this writer at the time – a few years earlier, I had written my Master’s thesis on him. Musically, we tried to develop and refine the soundscapes present on „Soteria“ slightly. There was also a change of vocalist at that time: Aleksandra was replaced by Kate, whose voice was slightly lower and darker.
Interestingly enough, the album had a profound effect on some people. A friend of mine who is a radio journalist recently told me that, when he was in forced exile in the Netherlands at the time of „Beckettia“’s release, the album provided comfort during lonely moments. That’s lovely! On a personal note, I associate the recording session in Krakow with a lot of partying, as it coincided with my thirtieth birthday in October 2001.“
Mozartia
„This album concludes our trilogy of releases, each of which is dedicated to a specific theme ranging from ancient philosophy to the works of Beckett and Mozart. I really like the “Mozartia” tracks – I believe they still have enormous musical potential today. The tracks on this album obviously have a gothic metal feeling, with female vocals and keyboards, but stylistically they lean a little more towards death metal than the previous two albums. As with other albums from our middle period, we have adapted certain “Mozartia” tracks for live performance in our current line-up.”
Sigma Draconis
“This album was no longer part of the ‘thematic’ series of releases, for which we sought inspiration in cosmic space and science fiction. Musically, it’s a very strange album, combining elements of death metal, gothic and progressive rock. I have mixed feelings about it and like some tracks more than others. However, MacKozer considers this to be the band’s best album from their period of activity prior to their seventeen-year hiatus. Today, in terms of both personnel and style, we’re continuing the musical direction we began on our debut album. However, we considered some tracks from “Sigma Draconis” – such as ‘Northern Blood’ – to be consistent with our current image, so we have included them in our live setlist.”
