Post-punk, darkwave, layered bass lines, synths and tribal rhythms: THE AUTUMN AURORA release their debut album “False Idols” through Volcano Records & Promotion, a work that explores introspection, alienation and social disillusionment while focusing on the “false idols” of contemporary society. Accompanying the album release is also ‘Be My…’, the new single taken from the record, now available with its official music video.

Born from the need to give sonic form to the introspection and disillusionment of modern society, The Autumn Aurora build with False Idols a dark, deep and layered sonic universe, rooted in post-punk and darkwave but developed through a highly personal compositional approach. At the heart of the album lies a distinctive dialogue between two bass lines, supported by extensive use of effects, synths that move between sweeping orchestral passages and industrial incursions, and a rhythmic component that often abandons the genre’s more conventional patterns in favour of tribal and syncopated solutions. Nine tracks shape an album that, while not conceived as a concept record in the strictest sense, finds strong narrative unity in its critical observation of contemporary society. The “false idols” of the title are ostentatious success, hyper-connectivity that ultimately leads to isolation, technological dependency, social appearances and the existential emptiness that accompanies the constant search for approval. Interwoven with this dimension are more intimate forms of fragility: urban alienation, disorientation, pain and the need for authenticity. False Idols therefore does not pursue nihilism for its own sake, but rather a possible catharsis through the acceptance of human vulnerability.

Representing one of the album’s many sides is Be My…, a track built around a bass arpeggio that introduces a progression of distorted chords and suspended atmospheres. Effects, dynamics, melody, orchestral pads and intermittently tribal rhythms drive a crescendo that alternates more rarefied sections with moments of intense impact, leading to a finale built around the contrast between restraint and sonic explosion. Behind the appearance of a passionate serenade, however, Be My… explores the darker side of attraction: a feeling that crosses the boundary of love and gradually turns into obsession. Desire for the other person becomes a need for control, dependency and the conviction of being the only one truly capable of loving the object of that desire. An extreme form of devotion that can become a curse, regardless of whether the relationship ever truly begins or eventually comes to an end.
