After spending a year in the studio, Danish rock powerhouse Electric Guitars are set to release their new album, “What Are We Waiting For”, on October 30 via Target Music. The band’s third single and new video, “Only In Your Head”, offers another glimpse into a record that breaks away from convention through an adventurous and highly experimental approach to songwriting and production.
“When you’re writing an album, you inevitably end up with countless musical ideas and fragments that get pulled from one song only to resurface somewhere completely unexpected” explains guitarist and vocalist Soren Andersen. “The same goes for melodies and lyrics – they often end up somewhere entirely different from where they started. “Only In Your Head” is the result of exactly that creative process”. He continues: “You can hardly get any further away from traditional songwriting, and we genuinely think it turned into an absolute monster of a track”.
While the lyrics are deliberately open to interpretation, they carry a clear underlying message: Nothing worthwhile comes easy. It takes courage, determination, humility and inner strength to move forward – and a strong sense of self-awareness can take you a long way.

The album has once again been mixed by Ole Bjørn Binding and Morten Hellborn, with Hellborn taking on an expanded creative role as the album’s overall producer. “We gave Morten complete creative freedom to take the songs wherever he felt they needed to go”, says guitarist and vocalist Mika Vandborg. “And he certainly did. Having him oversee the production has given the band an entirely new sonic identity – something we’ve wanted to explore for a long time”.

The band’s sixth studio album marks a bold new creative direction, with drummer Morten Hellborn taking over production duties and leading Electric Guitars into fresh sonic territory.
“I’ve wanted to take Electric Guitars into the future for a long time, if that makes sense; to leave the usual clichés behind and approach the band as if it were a brand-new project, free of rules and dogmas”, Mortem declares. “Taking full responsibility for the album has been an incredible journey. Soren produces other artists for a living, Mika works with top producers every day, so I definitely had to stay on my toes. I simply went for the sound and production that I wanted to hear, and the two guitarists fully embraced it. We’re incredibly proud of this album”, he concludes.
Recorded at Medley Studios Copenhagen, “What Are We Waiting For” is the first Electric Guitars album produced without founding members Soren Andersen and Mika Vandborg behind the controls. The final mix was also handed over for the first time, with former Duné member Ole Bjørn shaping the album’s modern and forward-looking sound.
“It was a real pleasure to let go of the responsibility for the production process and simply focus on being an artist this time”, Soren Andersen adds. “Instead of worrying about the technical side, I could concentrate on the songs, the performances, the expression and the energy. Morten encouraged us to introduce a lot more electronic elements, so I’ve been diving deep into synths and loops – something I’ve loved ever since growing up with Duran Duran and Depeche Mode”.
Despite its contemporary production, the album features more guitars than ever before, while deliberately moving away from traditional blues-based and classic rock formulas. Every song was carefully evaluated, resulting in what the band considers its strongest collection of material to date.
“What Are We Waiting For” will be released on LP (black, limited to 500 copies), CD and digital formats on 30.10.2026, via Mighty Music.
