Hailing from São Paulo, Brazil, ANGRA emerged in 1991 under the guidance of guitarist Rafael Bittencourt and vocalist André Matos, rapidly securing a singular position within the heavy metal landscape.
The group defied standard genre norms by fusing the intricate structures of European power metal with the vibrant pulse of Brazilian percussion, alongside rich orchestral and classical textures.
Although their initial offering, ‘Angels Cry’, already showcased this highly innovative approach, it was the 1996 release of ‘Holy Land’ that served as their true artistic breakthrough.
Frequently cited as the band’s defining masterpiece, ‘Holy Land’ remains a towering achievement in the power metal sphere.
Thematically, the record delves into the colonial history of Brazil during the 1500s, weaving together aggressive guitar riffs with native and Afro-Brazilian grooves, grand choral sections, and symphonic elements.
Crafted with the assistance of legendary producers Sascha Paeth and Charlie Bauerfeind, the project garnered global acclaim and continues to stand as a landmark achievement for enthusiasts of progressive, symphonic, and power metal.
Now, exactly thirty years after its original release, ‘Holy Land’ will be re-released, including on vinyl for the very first time as well as on CD. This vinyl release FINALLY fulfills a long-standing request from fans worldwide!
The album has been remastered especially for this re-release and features upgraded packaging:
For the CD version, remastered audio, 6-panel digipak design with extensive booklet featuring previously unreleased photographs, and a 30 x 60 cm poster insert.
For the double vinyl album you get remastered audio, deluxe gatefold-design, printed colour innersleeves and a bonus foldout poster.
The 2-LP will be available for worldwide distribution (minus Japan & Brazil) on standard black vinyl and limited edition white vinyl (300 copies only), as well in assorted other colour variants available exclusively from some of our media partners throughout Europe.
