The concept is straightforward: two records, two different ways to say the same thing. Love is the foundation. And sometimes it hurts like a motherfucker.
Three years in the making, DYAD was largely written by guitarist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Moonhead and vocalist Diana Studenberg.
Side A features seven tracks of progressive rock, taking listeners through a broad range of dynamics and moods – from lighter, melodic, and atmospheric passages to heavier, darker arrangements. Studenberg’s vocals are equally varied, shifting between delicate and expressive performances, with shades of Kate Bush and Tori Amos, alongside heavier influences drawn from Alice in Chains, Metallica, and Pantera.
Side B takes a different approach. Its alternative rock foundation gives the songs a more direct approach and features Moonhead on lead vocals across several tracks. Together, the two sides explore influences including ‘80s New Wave, Toto, QOTSA, ’90s Seattle, and more.
“Not every answer to a question has to be complex. Side B explores simplicity in delivery and basic structure. We are both huge fans of pop music and understand the challenge and talent it takes to write a really good song and deliver it with levity. Side B shows us sharing stories without complexity, sometimes a simple hug and an affirmation is all you need,” says Moonhead.

The album was largely created by the pair themselves. Moonhead produced and engineered the album, performing all guitars, bass, and piano, as well as handling mixing and mastering. Studenberg co-wrote lyrics and melodies with Moonhead and engineered her own vocals.
Drums were recorded by wunderkind Instagram find Max Botco, with Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree) performing on “Here’s to the Lonely” and Gunnar Olsen (Puscifer) playing on the band’s cover of the Stranglers’ “Golden Brown.”
“I’ve had a haunting obsession with Golden Brown, and this reimagining is taking back some control from a tumultuous childhood. It was the soundtrack to those times.” Says Moonhead.
“The recording process was also quite obscure, opting for small laptop setups globally instead of a traditional studio. “It was a result of need basically, we didn’t have the funds or ability to use expensive studios so we had to make do,” laments Moonhead.
Five singles have already been released. The complete album is now available worldwide, with one exception: Spotify. Rather than releasing the full record at once, Trope will make one track available each month, completing the album on the platform over the course of a year.
DYAD has already attracted international attention, earning a place on Loudwire’s 2026 list of the most anticipated progressive rock and progressive metal albums, alongside coverage from The Prog Mind (US) and Rock’n’Roll Reporter (Germany). The band’s song “Sigil” was also recently accepted for Grammy consideration, including Song of the Year.
With DYAD, Trope gives both sides of its musical identity room to breathe, delivering a double album that moves between expansive progressive rock and more direct alternative rock without asking listeners to choose between them. It’s a substantial body of work, created largely by two people over three years.
