More about “Xeno”…
This record has a story of hope, failure, love, betrayal and death woven into its fabric so skillfully it’s impossible to tell where truth ends and fiction begins. It’s both an escape from and examination of reality that reveals more and more truths the further it delves.
Produced by Josh Wilbur and mastered by Ted Jensen, “Xeno” takes the groundwork laid by 2013’s “Apocalyze” and 2012’s “Zion” EP as well as the band’s vast touring history and catapults them into a whole new league.
“Xeno” is an artistic endeavour like few others, with roots in manga, anime and the furthest reaches of its creators’ minds. Frontman Kenta ‘Ken’ Koie, guitarist Kazuki Takemura, bassist Hiroki ‘Hiro’ Ikegawa, keyboardist Terufumi ‘Teru’ Tamano and drummer Tatsuya Amano are, quite simply, operating on a different level.
“This record is dedicated to everyone because we believe it will make a new phase in this music culture…
We had a bad time after we released the last album ‘APOCALYZE’. Our original guitarist Kazuki had to leave during a tour due to a cerebral hemorrhage, it was the worst thing to happen to us in our entire music career. Fortunately or unfortunately, it just affected his left hand. He is still alive, he never gave up as a musician and he wrote a couple songs for this record as well. It has bound us together as one.” Comments Ken.
He continues… “The experience of working with Josh Wilbur means a lot to us. He brought us fresh feelings and has helped us to create our best record to date. We put everything we’ve got into ‘Xeno’ and it is the most important and precious thing to us.
We can’t wait to share the experience of ‘Xeno’. It is beating, it is alive! We are dedicating this record to everyone!”
Xeno is a character, two to be exact. This is an intricate story of artificial intelligence meets human desperation. The two combine to see the human Xeno, so distraught with the state of the world that he endeavours to bring creation through devastation.
“Everyone has a dark side,” says Ken. “Everybody is so hypocritical. And everything – our world – is being completely fucked up by so many people, especially the government. It’s easy to see what they do. So Xeno, the person, decides to do something big so he can hit reset and start again.”

Thrash giants MEGADETH have posted that over 150 drummers played ‘Symphony Of Destruction’ in Brazil.
Bateras 100% Brazil is a project conceived by drummer Dino Verdade, owner of the biggest drum school franchise in Brazil, Bateras Beat.
The project’s goal is to gather as many drummers as possible to play together their own music and big hits, with the principle of sharing a killer groove.
On August 9, 2015 at Ibirapuera Park in Sao Paulo, Brazil, approximately 156 drummers, among them women, children, seniors and people of all ages, brought their own drum kits to play along to KISS, The Rolling Stones, Daft Punk and Megadeth:
On the stage, to play “Symphony Of Destruction”, were Amilcar Christófaro (Torture Squad), Jean Dolabella (Udora and ex-Sepultura), Bart (Whale Mutant), Edu Garcia (John Wayne) and Nana (Alma Djem), with Dino Verdade (Brotheria) conducting the band and all the drummers.
The project attempted to set a new Guinness World Record as the band with the largest number of drummers playing along.
What do you get when you combine hardcore metal with the Simpsons’ god-fearing neighbourino Ned Flanders?
The answer is Phoenix outfit OKILLY DOKILLY, the world’s first and only ‘Nedal’ band. They’re bespectacled, mustachioed, impeccably costumed in pink, green and grey, and their Facebook bio gets straight to the point: “Most of our songs are direct Ned quotes.”
So how does a Flanders themed metal band start? As lead singer Head Ned (possibly not his real name) explains to ripitup.com.au, inspiration struck while casually shopping at a convenience store that for purposes of this article we’ll just assume is called the Kwik-E-Mart. “Myself and our drummer (Bled Ned) were in line at a grocery store, entertaining ourselves by coming up with really cutesy names for really hardcore, brutal bands,” he says.
“The name Okilly Dokilly came up and was very funny to us,” he says.”We ran with it. I contacted a few friends (Red Ned, Thread Ned and Stead Ned), and here we are. Most of us have played in other bands around our hometown,” he explains. “This is definitely the heaviest sounding project any of us Neds have done.”
You might be wondering where the band fit within the broader genre of Simpsons themed metal. “Not as fast as Bartcore, and a little cleaner than Krusty Punk,” Head Ned says. “Not as heavy as ‘Homer J.ent’ – Nedal is a happy medium in the Simpscene.” Curiously, the guttural metal screams present in the band’s current recorded output bear little resemblance to Ned’s own holler, but as they are only demos there is presumably still room to evolve.
Outside of music, the band’s favourite past times include “watching the Simpsons”, “plenty of Futurama” and “politely asking for the return of our power tools, usually with little success”.
With the band set to play their first hometown show on September 5, can music fans in Arizona expect to see exclusively left-handed instruments at the show? Sadly it’s a no-diddly-o, as not all of the Neds are left handed. “I am,”says Head Ned. “The other Neds aren’t so lucky. It made writing All That Is Left pretty fun,” he continues. “It’s our homage to the Leftorium, and the bridge is entirely left handed puns.”
He also confesses that band’s long-term goals are, like their inspiration, quite humble. “In reality, this is all just an over-the-top attempt at getting Matt Groening’s autograph, even if it comes on a cease and desist letter.” Which, we can all agree, is a noble and probably achievable goal.
