Italian Symphonic Death Metal pioneers Genus Ordinis Dei are back with a new music video and single entitled Three Kings. This is the latest release from the band since their full-length album & metal music video series The Beginning which was released on December 8, 2024 via Eclipse Records. The single was produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Tommaso Monticelli at Sonitus Studio in Crema, Italy. The music video was directed by Steve Saints, with makeup effects by Beatrice Tell and Martina Varotto.
“Since releasing The Beginning in December, we were craving to create something new. We decided to release a single that talks about our band recently coming out of a tough situation, so we want to thank our new drummer Nico who gave a new lifeline to Genus Ordinis Dei. This is our tribute to him, the Prince of None for rescuing two old wounded kings to reclaim their might!” says guitarist & producer Tommy Monticelli. “As always working with Steve Saints (director) is like having a night at the pub with your friends, so there’s nothing easier or more chill. This videoclip has a different style compared to our previous ones from The Beginning, and Glare of Deliverance. It’s faster and cryptic, more focused on the overall visual effects than the storytelling. We needed to try something different for once and after watching the final cut we thought this is so cool!” Drummer Nico Pedrali continues, “For the first time I played a role in one of our videos and it’s been much more exciting than I expected. I was so hyped and I hope that you can tell that from watching my performance as the “Prince Of None”. Working with Bea (sfx) was so fun, she’s a chill person and a super professional makeup artist, her job is just amazing! For the Makeup we were inspired by Game of Thrones (Nick like poisoned Joffrey!) and The Lord Of The Rings for the Nazgul costume. We mixed it with some blood, smoke and darkness and BOOM! This is something that metalheads will enjoy for sure!”
Three Kings is the enthralling new single by Genus Ordinis Dei. This symphonic death metal masterpiece beckons listeners into a realm of relentless energy and breathtaking musicality with its staccato rhythms, thunderous percussion, and soaring choruses that truly elevate the song to new heights. Now, let’s delve into the story behind the music. “Three Kings” unfolds like a medieval saga, weaving tales of betrayal, survival, and redemption. Two kings, each betrayed by those closest to them, fight against the odds to reclaim their thrones. The first king, stabbed in the back by his brother, flees into the forest, while the second king battles poison inflicted by his own queen. Despite their dire circumstances, both kings refuse to surrender to darkness and eventually meet on the shores of uncertainty. Their dreams seemingly shattered, a young prince’s arrival offers hope for a new era of peace and prosperity. “Three Kings” is more than just music; it’s an immersive experience that envelops the listener in a world of epic proportions, where darkness and light collide in a breathtaking symphony of sound. Brace yourself for an unforgettable musical odyssey with “Three Kings” as Genus Ordinis Dei deftly combines symphonic grandeur with death metal ferocity, leaving listeners breathless and craving more.

Named for the protagonist in Michael Ende’s The NeverEnding Story, Atreyu was formed in Orange County, CA, in 1998. After releasing two EPs (1998’s Visions and 2001’s Fractures in the Facade of Your Porcelain Beauty), the band signed to Victory Records—the storied rock, metal, punk and hardcore label, which boasts Thursday, Between the Buried and Me and Taking Back Sunday among its legendary alumni. Victory Records was acquired by Concord in 2019, while its influential catalog, which spans over three decades, is managed by Craft Recordings.
In 2002, the five-piece released their genre-defining debut,Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses. While the acclaimed album set the stage for their enduring career, the band’s 2004 follow-up, The Curse, placed them on the path to mainstream success. Recorded after a year of non-stop touring, the album found the band reflecting on their newfound fame, while grappling with the ups and downs of life on the road.
Produced by Garth “GGGarth” Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Biffy Clyro, Melvins), the album built upon the foundations that Atreyu set with their debut. While the metalcore heroes delivered plenty of blistering moments (including “Bleeding Mascara” and “Corseting”), they balanced their work through a host of reflective, melodic breakdowns, anthemic hooks, a growling power ballad (“The Remembrance Ballad”)and a pop instrumental “An Interlude.”
Upon its release in the summer of 2004, The Cursetopped the US Independent charts and became Atreyu’s first album to break the Billboard 200, where it peaked at No.32. The LP, which went on to earn a Gold certification from the RIAA, also earned high marks from critics. Rolling Stone praised The Curse as “true headbanging nirvana,” while AllMusicdeclared that it “expands mightily on the promise and power of their debut.” PopMatters, meanwhile, hailed it as “a confident album,” praising Atreyu as “a young band who dares to make music that defies categorization.”
Also driving the album’s success were singles “The Crimson”and “Right Side of the Bed”—both of which found significant rotation on the likes of MTV2 and Fuse—while the latter track was also featured in the popular video game Burnout 3: Takedown. The following year, the band appeared on the soundtrack to the blockbuster film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, where they covered Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Game.” The song, which appears on the 20th Anniversary Edition of The Curse, was previously only available physically in the US on a limited-edition exclusive of the album.
Since releasing The Curse, Atreyu has become a leader in the global metalcore scene, thanks in part to two runs on Ozzfest, sold-out headlining tours, appearances on movie and game soundtracks and performances alongside peers like Linkin Park, Avenged Sevenfold, Deftones, Slipknot and Bring Me the Horizon. To date, they have released a total of nine studio albums, including A Death-Grip on Yesterday (2006), which marked their first LP to break the Billboard 200’s Top Ten, and Lead Sails Paper Anchor(2007), which landed at No.8 and topped both the US Hard Rock and Rock Albums charts.
The band, which currently consists of Brandon Saller, Dan Jacobs, Travis Miguel, and bassist/unclean vocalist Porter McKnight, released their latest album (the acclaimed The Beautiful Dark of Life) in December 2023. This summer, Atreyu has performed across Europe, the UK and the US, including appearances at the Download Festival (England) and Rock im Park and Rock am Ring (Germany). Looking ahead, the band will be playing Las Vegas’ When We Were Young Festival, where they will be performing The Curse in full. Ahead of its official release on July 5th, oneiric Black Metal force-of-nature AKHLYS present the full stream of their new album. “House of the Black Geminus” is a display of frightening dominance. Combining intense Black Metal with elements of Dark Ambient and Death Industrial, AKHLYS unite psychological horror, orchestrated bludgeon and eerie foreboding on a harrowing journey into pandemonic majesty.
Mastermind Naas Alcameth (AORATOS, NIGHTBRINGER) relays the concept behind this sinister work:
“Like its predecessors, “House of the Black Geminus” is based on dreams seen from an esoteric perspective and through the language and symbols of mythology and the occult. This album is more nuanced because it is more particular as a thematic album. It focuses on the symbol of the “house” within this dream context, which serves as an abode where, after ordeal, one meets one’s daemonic reflection or shadow. Dreams are traditionally linked with the underworld, where this house resides. It is structured as three hierarchical levels, mirroring the cosmic structures in ancient mythology and religion: the underworld, the middle, and the celestial above. The house’s cellar represents the underworld, the hearth is the middle abode, and the attic is the celestial. Three different phases of a journey and ordeal occur within the three levels, each with its specific role. It is all very Dante-esque or occult about the “dark night of the soul.“
More detailed info about AKHLYS, Alcameth‘s Art and “House of the Black Geminus” can be found via an in-depth interview trilogy with Bardo Methodology. Click here!
The album is set for release across multiple formats – CD, vinyl, tape, and digital – on July 5th. Various merch designs will accompany the launch. Orders are available through the label’s EU, US, and Bandcamp stores.
AKHLYS will embark on the “House of the Black Geminus” European tour from July 26th. AKHLYS was formed 2009 by Naas Alcameth (NIGHTBRINGER, AORATOS, BESTIA ARCANA) as a musical expression for the inexplicable visions, journeys and phenomena that occur in liminal lands between slumber and awakening. Initially exploring these concepts via Dark Ambient in debut “Supplication” (2009) and then haunting Black Metal through lauded follow-up “The Dreaming I” (2015), Alcameth has once again reified and rarefied this vision, giving rise to a third and crowning work, “Melinoë“, which was released in December 2020.
Earning widespread acclaim for their live performances, AKHLYS secured a partnership with Parasite Gallows Booking in 2022. Amidst numerous tours and festival appearances in Europe, Israel, Latin America and the United States, the recent years have also witnessed the crafting of new compositions destined for the band’s fourth album. Titled “House of the Black Geminus,” this much-anticipated release is scheduled for release July 5th, 2024.
