Germany’s Metal Hammer Magazine and Norway’s Scream Magazine have voted “Urd”, the newest album of metallers BORKNAGAR, to become the ”album of the month” of their current issues! “Congratulations to the band for this great achievement…” Century Media Records posted.
BORKNAGAR’s mastermind Oystein G. Brun has checked in to comment about the amazing advance reactions as well as the band status as follows:
“Hey folks! Just wanted to give you all a brief status report from the BORK headquarter…
First off I would like to express our gratitude for all the amazing feedback we have got for the upcoming album. As earlier stated we’re all very satisfied and proud of the new album, but the fact that this album would unleash such a massive and positive feedback came a bit as a surprise for all of us. “Urd” recently won the “album of the month” in Metal Hammer Germany, something we really didn’t really expect being the “unconventional” band we are. Also we won the “album of the month” in Scream Magazine in Norway and it feels good to get that kind of recognition in our own territory. We have done numerous interviews the past weeks and what a joyful ride it is, the feedbacks are generally amazing and we can’t do anything but smile.
As you can see the album comes in different version; standard jewelcase CD, limited digipak with two extra tracks and a vinyl version in black, green and gold. Reportedly some of these limited items are soon out of stock, so if interested to have an exclusive edition of the album, make sure to place you order ASAP.
On another note we are currently working on a project that we will reveal soon, we are really excited about it and hopefully it will grant an additional and worthy dimension to our expression….
Due to the massive and positive feedback I would like to offer something back to all our fans: Fans can submit questions to the following mail address: mail.borknagar@gmail.com – The 20 first questions will be answered and launched on our sites. Please headline the mail with “Fan Question”. So if there is anything you are wondering about in relations to BORKNAGAR that journalists and magazines haven’t been digging into – feel free to submit your question!” Take care, folks! Øystein / BORKNAGAR”
As previously posted, BORKNAGAR are going to release their newest album “Urd” on March 2012 via Century Media Records. The album’s artwork was designed by Brazilian artist Marcelo Vasco (www.P2RDESIGN.com), who has not only already worked on the band’s previous “Universal” release but also with artists such as Soulfly, Belphegor, Einherjer or Keep of Kalessin. The mixing duties for the album were taken care of by Jens Bogren at Sweden’s Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Paradise Lost, Katatonia, etc.).

Metallers PARADISE LOST have recently launched a new video clip, “Honesty In Death” , from the upcoming album “Tragic Idol” which is scheduled for a worldwide release through Century Media Records on April 23rd, 2012 in Europe and April 24th, 2012 in North America. Watch the new video on this location.
PARADISE LOST are well known for their intense videos from the previous two albums. “The Enemy” from the 2007 album “In Requiem” was shot on the Crimea peninsula and caused some problems with TV companies due to the execution scenes. The video for the title track of “Faith Divides Us, Death Unites Us” from 2009 was even more disturbing with its scenes of physical and emotional abuse.
Greg Mackintosh (guitar) comments: “We are very excited about the premiere of our Honesty in Death video. In my opinion it is the best video we have ever done. Matt Green, who I had previously worked with on the Vallenfyre ‘Cathedrals of Dread’ video, directed it. He did such a great job with Vallenfyre that we knew he would be able to do something really special for Paradise Lost. The result is a very powerful, but very grim short film with brief cameos by the band, that is sure to resonate with people who see it.”

Last week, Montreal, Quebec, Canada metal radio show “Metal Attack MTL”, which airs on MetalMessiahRadio.com, conducted an interview with legendary drummer Vinny Appice (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL, KILL DEVIL HILL). You can now watch the chat in two parts below.
Appice was in Canada’s metal capital on March 14 for a drum clinic at ItalMelodie and as an invited guest judge at the Heavy MTL 2012 BOTB hosted by concert promoters Dungeonworks and Evenko where local bands battle it out for two spots on Canada’s most epic metal fest.
The self-titled debut album from KILL DEVIL HILL — the band featuring Appice, Rex Brown (PANTERA, DOWN) on bass, Mark Zavon (RATT, W.A.S.P., 40 CYCLE HUM) on guitar and Jason “Dewey” Bragg (PISSING RAZORS) on vocals — has had its release date pushed back to late spring from the previously announced March 27.
Vinny Appice has anchored the rhythm and power live and in the studio for the music of DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL, WWIII, AXIS, Rick Derringer, John Lennon, and more. He has recorded and co-written songs on over 25 albums and CDs, including many multi-platinum records. Touring the world for over two decades resulted in selling millions of records! Vinny‘s drumming can also be heard on numerous movie soundtracks, including “Wayne’s World 2”, “Heavy Metal“, “Iron Eagle” and “Bedazzled”. Vinny, the author of drum instruction book “Rock Steady” and DVD “Hard Rock Drumming Techniques”, has performed incredible powerhouse drum clinics around the globe. Numerous books have been written about BLACK SABBATH and DIO with the authors always mentioned Vinny‘s unique powerful drumming style.

A little background information on the genesis of this project: Åkerfeldt and Wilson have been friends since the late ’90s, when Wilson co-produced OPETH‘s revered “Blackwater Park” album. Over the years, they’d often spoken of working on a project together, but it wasn’t until recently that they managed to make something happen, when Mikael flew over to visit Steven in the U.K. and they ended up in Wilson‘s home studio throwing ideas around. That visit was the nascence of a whole self-titled album, written and produced by the pair, and mixed by Wilson.
The sound of STORM CORROSION can best be described as enchanting, orchestral, ambient, epic (half the album’s tracks clock in around the 10-minute mark) and nothing short of surprising to the new ear. However, the musicians’ respective fanbases will be primed to appreciate the new output, with Wilson‘s recent solo album, “Grace For Drowning”, and OPETH‘s “Heritage” having brought them to a logical place to understand STORM CORROSION. This eponymous collection is almost viewed as one side of a musical triangle.
Says Wilson, “If you’d asked me three months ago about the music, I would have said, ‘Expect the last thing you would expect.’ But actually, now that ‘Heritage’ and ‘Grace For Drowning’ have come out, I don’t think it’s going to be that much of a shock to people, because it’s almost like a third part of the trilogy, in a way. If anything, it’s even more orchestral, even more stripped down, even more dark, twisted and melancholic… but it certainly feels like it comes from the same place as ‘Heritage’ and ‘Grace For Drowning’, which indeed it does because it was written during the same period.”
“Some of the music on this record I think is the most beautiful music I have participated on ever,” adds Åkerfeldt. “There’s some magical sections on there. Musically, I think we’ve created something earthy, a bit frightening, exhausting, profound and rather intense. All at the same time. I can safely say I don’t know any other band or artist that sounds anything like STORM CORROSION. I guess that was also one of our goals, so to speak.”
Roadrunner Senior VP of A&R, Monte Conner, welcomed STORM CORROSION to the Roadrunner family, commenting, “I am honored to have the Roadrunner logo on the STORM CORROSION album. Steven Wilson and Mikael Åkerfeldt have demonstrated time and time again that they are two of the truest and most important artists working today, and it is not often that I get to work with musicians of this caliber. This album is a beautiful piece of work that will appeal to fans of Steven and Mikael‘s past records, while at the same time exploring new avenues for both artists.”
EMI will release IRON MAIDEN’s En Vivo!, a new Blu-Ray, 2 DVD and 2 CD soundtrack album, on Monday March 26th (March 27th in Canada via EMI and in the US via UMe).
Disc Two of En Vivo! is a bonus disc containing an 88-minute documentary, Behind The Beast.
A fascinating, high quality “home movie”, produced entirely in-house by Maiden’s own Krew led by Andy Matthews, it reveals how to put on an Iron Maiden tour and what goes on behind the scenes at a show. It describes the extraordinary story of one of the most acclaimed and ambitious touring shows in the world, illustrating the day to day life and complex tasks of the Maiden Killer Krew and the other characters behind the scenes. As well as interviews with the Iron Maiden crew, it interweaves anecdotes from the band and their fans, and includes footage of the live show in this comprehensive guide to the intricacies of staging massive, live stadium shows around the world out of the belly of a Boeing 757.
In support of the En Vivo! release, Iron Maiden will guest on US nationally syndicated program Rockline, hosted by Bob Coburn, on Monday, June 11th. The show starts at 11:30 PM (EST)/8:30 PM (PST) and fans are encouraged to speak with the band by calling 1-800-344-ROCK (7625). For more information go to Rocklineradio.com.

EMI will release En Vivo!, a new Blu-Ray, 2 DVD and 2 CD soundtrack album, on Monday March 26th (March 27th in Canada via EMI and in the US via UMe). Check out the clip for ‘Blood Brothers’ from the release below (may be unavailable in some regions):
En Vivo! was filmed on April 10th, 2011 in front of over 50,000 ecstatic fans at the Estadio Nacional, Santiago during the Round The World In 66 Days leg of The Final Frontier World Tour, and captures a magnificent performance by the band, ardently embraced by the legendary Latino passion and energy of their Chilean fans. With spectacular stage backdrops, dynamic musicianship and a literally jaw-dropping appearance by Eddie, this live show encapsulates to perfection the heart and soul of Iron Maiden 2011.
Bass player and founder member Steve Harris comments: “For The Final Frontier Tour it was really important to me that we filmed in South America as we’re always so overwhelmed by the fans’ reaction when we go to that part of the world and I wanted to reflect that in the filming. After much consideration we chose the Santiago show as we felt it was one of our best performances of the entire Tour and to play at the prestigious Estadio Nacional was a landmark moment for us. For reasons known to our fans, it took a long time before we got to play our first show in Chile, and once we did get to play a show, the response was so phenomenal we just had to keep coming back and it’s got better and better each time!
This show also features the gigantic new Eddie. He wasn’t due to make his appearance until our European leg of the tour later in 2011, but we managed to transport him across the sea in a special huge container just in time for the latter end of the South American dates so it was great we were able to immortalize him for the DVD as he really has to be seen to be believed!”
The concert was filmed digitally using 22 HD cameras and an octocam (a flying camera which captures aerial crowd scenes), recorded in both stereo and 5.1 audio and mixed by Maiden’s longstanding producer Kevin “Caveman” Shirley, all of which serves to accentuate the incredible atmosphere of this compelling performance. Extensive use is made of split screens so fans can follow the individual members closer and the set list moves seamlessly between songs from Maiden’s most recent studio album, 2010’s The Final Frontier through to classic fan favourites via the band’s vast and varied catalogue (full set listing below).
DVD Disc Two is a Bonus Disc containing an 88-minute documentary, Behind The Best. This is also an entirely in-house production by Maiden’s own Krew, led by Andy Matthews, and is intended as an interesting and revealing high quality “home movie” for their fans of how to put on an Iron Maiden tour and what goes on behind the scenes at a show. It describes the extraordinary story of one of the most acclaimed and ambitious touring shows in the world. It illustrates the day to day life and complex tasks of the Maiden Killer Krew and the other characters behind the scenes. The expertise and experience, the problem-solving and successes, the sheer scale and immense difficulties of the undertaking comes to life through the day to day coverage of the tour and the background work of the crews in sound, lighting, carpentry, production and set design. As well as interviews with the Iron Maiden crew, it interweaves anecdotes from the band and their fans, and includes footage of the live show in this comprehensive guide to the intricacies of staging massive, live Stadium shows around the World out of the belly of a Boeing 757. The bonus disc also contains an extended version of the promo video ‘Satellite 15…The Final Frontier’, a video about the making of ‘Satellite 15…The Final Frontier’ plus the opening video sequence to The Final Frontier World Tour.
In addition to the Blu-Ray, the 2 DVD will initially be available as a Limited Edition double DVD in Collectors Steel book case and Double Vinyl Picture Disc (as seen above). As well as a traditional 2 CD Soundtrack album, En Vivo! will also be available as a Digital Download, CD soundtrack album and Digital Download Video.
Maiden’s Final Frontier World Tour 2010-11 saw the band circumnavigating the planet for the third time in their customized Boeing 757, Ed Force One, piloted by lead singer Bruce Dickinson, and playing 98 shows in 36 countries to over 2 million fans.
