According to the New York Post, former ANTHRAX singer Dan Nelson filed a $2.65 million suit yesterday over the fallout from his 2009 oust from the band.
Dan Nelson says drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello and guitarist Scott Ian falsely stated in “numerous interviews” that he had “abruptly resigned” after getting sick, forcing a cancelation of a tour.
The Long Island native says his ex-bandmates’ “intentional defamation” has caused him a loss of income and damaged his reputation.
The Manhattan federal court filing further charges that Nelson co-wrote the tunes on the band’s latest album, Worship Music, but hasn’t gotten his fair share of the profits.

A feature on VAN HALEN guitarist Eddie Van Halen makes the cover of Guitar Player Magazine’s Holiday 2011 issue. The article, The House That Eddie Built: Inside Van Halen’s Dream Machines, is in the issue on newsstands now.
Van Halen News Desk reports that VAN HALEN has recently signed with Interscope Records (not Columbia Records as rumors stated). The new, as yet untitled album is completely finished and due to be released in early 2012.
Furthermore, the Grammy Awards are hinting strongly that Van Halen will make their announcement at the Grammy Nominations Concert held in Los Angeles, CA on November 30th, aired live on CBS.
This recording will be Van Halen’s first album with vocalist David Lee Roth in more than 25 years, and their first new music as a band in seven years.
Radio Metal recently conducted an interview with PAGAN’S MIND frontman Jørn Viggo Lofstad. Excerpts from the interview are below:
Radio Metal: Jørn Lande left a lot of bands he sang with. It looks like he has a really precise idea of what he wants. You know him better than everyone I guess, so what can you tell us about his personality?
Jørn Viggo Lofstad: “To be honest, I think that if Jørn would be able to choose, he wouldn’t do all these projects. You have to remember that sometimes, you have to make a living: he needs bread on the table everyday so… I know that at heart, what he likes the most is classic heavy metal. If he could choose, he’d have love to make enough money to feed all the guys that play in the band and himself just touring with JORN, but sadly it’s not enough. So he has to do other projects, and take other offers. That’s understandable. He’s a professional musician and he does what it takes. I think that’s the main reason why you have all these different things. I think he was very serious with MASTERPLAN at that time though, maybe it developed in a way he didn’t liked. With Ark, he was also really doing his best, making one of his best albums with this band… But I think that since 2004/2005, the most of his energy went into building up the Jorn band, and now, it starts to become much bigger than what it was. As a person, I think he’s a very good hearted man. Every time he sits down, he wanna make the best song. He’s a fantastic songwriter. It’s been a privilege for me to work with him. We made a very good team, really miss that, but he talks a lot [he laughs]. Everyone who has talked to him knows that he talks a lot. But he’s a good guy, and his heart is in the music. I have nothing but good things to say about him.”
Radio Metal: Since you played with him for so long and you didn’t split with him like most of the musician he’s been with, do you think that you’re able to understand him more than the other musicians he played with do?
Jørn Viggo Lofstad: “Me and Jørn were not only musicians that played together, but very good friends as well. Even though I don’t talk with him that much anymore, I know that he has a lot of respect for me and I have a lot of respect for him. That’s what this is about. Maybe in other bands you have bigger personalities working together… I don’t know. Working wise, we clicked very well and if I hadn’t had to make the choice I made, I could have stuck with his own band. But at the time I chose Pagan’s Mind and then I followed that. Jørn just said ‘you need to understand that I need a guitar player that can be there when we do the gigs’, and of course I understand that. I had to make a choice. If it hadn’t been for that, I would still be playing with him. I don’t know. There’re a lot of different reasons. With Masterplan, he didn’t write that much of the music, and maybe power metal is not really his thing. Playing [he sings] with the double bass and stuff isn’t his thing. He likes classic hard rock. You know, last year he played with HEAVEN & HELL, and I really hoped he’d become part of that band. He deserves it. In my opinion, he’s the best singer that has been since 2000 until now. He’d deserve to make a really good classic heavy rock album with someone of that caliber.”
Radio Metal: Did you regret the decision to leave Jorn and just play with Pagan’s Mind?
Jørn Viggo Lofstad: “Sure, but you can’t have everything. That’s the way it is. Also, I thought it would be easier to replace me in Jorn because we were two guitar player and Tor, the other one is still there. It was me and Jørn writing everything but we shared all the stuff, solos, etc. It was maybe easier to find someone to take my place in Jorn than in Pagan’s Mind. Pagan’s Mind is a band of friends coming from the same city that do the things differently than Jorn… Like I said it wasn’t easy to leave Jorn but that’s just the way it got. It is what it is.”
In other news, the band’s single, ‘Intermission’, has been certified Gold in Sweden, selling over 10,000 copies. The video for ‘Intermission’ can be seen below: The video for ‘Intermission’ can be seen below:
Metal Kaoz has issued an interview with German metal queen DORO PESCH, in which she talks about Doro’s forthcoming album. An excerpt follows:
Q: What can you tell us (about the new) album?
A: “I think we have completed 80% of the new record and there are some great songs coming up. Actually, one song is dedicated to RONNIE JAMES DIO and the working title is ‘Hero’. That’s a very special song. I was a big Dio fan and I know that there are so many fan out there are missing him so much, so definitely this song will be on the new record. Also they will be some speed metal songs, some anthems songs and of course some power ballads.”
Q: Do you have in mind when will it be released?
A: “Maybe next spring, because we’ll be touring until the end of this year, so it’s not enough time to work in the studio. And then we need some time to cool off after the tour and stuff like that. I think around spring time the new album will be out.
Doro’s mammoth 25 Years In Rock 2DVD/CD set – which documents Doro’s 2,500th live concert – is available now.

Perhaps many of you know Death Metalers Hypocrisy, but for the rest that don’t, I have to tell you that they are one of best Melodic Death Metal bands in the world from the land of METAL- Sweden, and are led by Super busy MetalHead Peter Tägtgren. They have been playing METAL for more than 21 years now, resulting in 14 great albums favoured by all who bang their heads with Death Metal.
I had my chance to interview them and ask them some questions that you may like to know, especially about their new album, Hell Over Sofia – 20 Years Of Chaos And Confusion.
How the things are going with the band? any SHOCKING news?
It’s going really good! We’re very happy to finally release the new DVD.There are no shocking news at the moment but you never know whats gonna come up in the future…
Your website is closed and i also checked your page on facebook for some info about your upcoming tours and shows but i only found news about Rockstad. It seems the band was inactive for a while, do you want to tell us about that and also if you have some info about your upcoming shows?
Yes that’s true that the website is down at the moment but we’re working on it and a new homepage will be set up as soon as possible. We’ve been active all the time even though we not been playing that many shows since the “Long time no death” tour. We’re constantly working on new material for the next album plus we’ve been busy with the new DVD.
Would you tell us more details about “Hell Over Sofia – 20 Years Of Chaos And Confusion” DVD, especially about “Long Time, No Death 2010” show.
It wasn’t easy to find out where to record the live show. We’ve played in so many great places all over the world and to find the right place was pretty difficult. We never have played in Bulgaria in twenty years so we were thinking it was time to do it. Peter had played with Pain in Sofia before and he said it was great. So we decided to take the risk to go there because we didn’t know what to expect. But we were lucky! The crowd was fantastic in Bulgaria and the organisation was great. It was a fantastic moment that I’ll never forget. I’m really happy that we did the right choice.
With choosing that name, it seems this album is the second part of your previous compilation album “10 Years of Chaos and Confusion” , is that correct? are you thinking of making a third part too, or how about a special announcement right now for the fans?!’
It’s kind of a second part of “10 years of chaos and confusion” but at the same time not. The differnce is that “Hell Over Sofia – 20 Years Of Chaos And Confusion”dvd was planned to be released.
We didn’t know that the show in Wacken 1998 was recorded when we went on stage. But afterwards we heard that they got it recorded and we wanted to release it because it was a great show and a special moment for us.
“Hell Over Sofia – 20 Years Of Chaos And Confusion”is including a documentary and finally we could tell the true story of Hypocrisy.
HYPOCRISY
“Finally after 20 years a DVD will be released to tell us the history of Hypocrisy. It’s called “Hell over Sofia- 20 Years of chaos and confusion” Mikael Hedlund said. Please analyze these 20 years of Hypocrisy…
Crazy, funny and fantastic!
It’s been many up and down moments in the history of Hypocrisy. But I think it’s normal for a band that has been around for a while. If I don’t think about all the problems we’ve had with different managements during the years I think it’s been a fantastic journey. We’ve toured with great bands and met so many fantastic fans all over the world. If it would not been because of that I think we would have quit long time ago. In the end it’s all about playing and having fun.
How do you choose the setlist for your shows? Are there any particular factors that may influence your decision or other thoughts behind it?
For the first we try to play songs from all the albums. But in the show in Sofia, Bulgaria we didn’t play one song from the “Catch 22”. Don’t ask me why.. Before the “Long time no death” tour we asked our fans to choose the setlist for the tour and I think it’s a good way of choosing the songs because it’s for the fans we’re doing this and we want them to be happy.
“Hell Over Sofia – 20 Years Of Chaos And Confusion”
Where did the idea of the Art work come from and who painted it?
The painter Kristian Wåhlin did send over the idea to us. When we saw the painting we all said that it would fit perfect as a cover for the dvd. It’s a very interesting painting with many details in it and it’s absolutly a fantastic picture in my opinion.
Have you any plans to go in the studio to record a new album this year or next year? If yes do you want to continue those brutal themes that you used before in your music or will you surprise us?
We’re focusing on writing a new album. Thats the most important thing for us at the moment. It’s too early to say what it’s going to sounds like but all I can say is that it’s not gonna be any change of style.
It will be a classic Hypocrisy album without no compromises. We already got some material
and we’re really looking forward to enter the studio again. We don’t know yet when it will
but hopefully after the summer 2012. Nothing is confirmed yet. We’re doing the MetalFest tour in
May/June plus some other festivals. Thats the plans at the moment.
Peter Tagtgren
With releasing new album of PAIN, “You Only Live Twice”, It seems Peter will be more busy from now on, how do you think this will influence your future plans?
It doesn’t matter because don’t think it will effect Hypocrisy in a negative way. When he’s doing something, he’s doing it for 100%.
As a last question how do you define the word ‘Hypocrisy’ your band as a whole?, the goals, the ideas, etc?
The the whole idea for us is to have fun and thats what we’ve had and what we’re having in the band right now. When it’s not fun anymore we’ll stop doing this.
We’re all looking forward going into the studio again and start to record the new album and after that doing a new headline tour all over the world. That’s our next goal!
Hypocrisy, North American Tour, 2010
Any final words or message for your fans?
Hope to see you all in May/June on the MetalFest tour!
