Finnish melancholic metal luminaries DAWN OF SOLACE are gearing up for the release of their fourth studio album, “Affliction Vortex”, set to arrive on February 14, 2025, via Noble Demon. This highly anticipated follow-up to the critically acclaimed “Flames of Perdition” (2022) promises to be the band’s most diverse and powerful offering yet. Released in CD, vinyl LP, and digital formats, the album pre-sale is available at:https://music.nobledemon.com/vortex
Following the release of the first single “Murder”, today the band has given a further insight into their forthcoming album with the track “Fortress”. The song is accompanied by a brand new music video, which you can watch here:
“Fortress shows a new kind of energy and progression in DoS music,” explains mastermind Tuomas Saukkonen (WOLFHEART, BEFORE THE DAWN). “Definitely the most intensive song on the new album and first DoS song ever with a joined effort on lyrics. I teamed up with an Australian poet and his extremely powerful words were like a wind in the sails on the chorus.“
Formed in 2005 as Tuomas Saukkonen‘s (WOLFHEART, BEFORE THE DAWN) creative outlet, DAWN OF SOLACE quickly established itself with their debut album, “The Darkness” (2006). Despite a hiatus due to legal complications, the band’s loyal fanbase remained unwavering, keeping the flame alive.
A triumphant return came in 2019 with the signing to Noble Demon. This partnership revitalized DAWN OF SOLACE, leading to two successful full-length albums – “Waves” (2020) and “Flames of Perdition” (2022) – alongside an unplugged EP. In early 2024, the band entered the studio, determined to craft their most versatile album yet.
“Affliction Vortex” is the culmination of this creative evolution. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Saku Moilanen at DeepNoise Studios, the album promises to be a dark and captivating journey through the depths of Finnish melancholy.
DAWN OF SOLACE are: Tuomas Saukkonen – Drums, guitars, bass and growling vocals Mikko Heikkilä – Clean and growling vocals Saku Moilanen – Keys Jukka Salovaara – Guitar solos
Rising from the depths of Las Vegas Nevada, blackened death metal outfit GRAVETHORN is proud to announce their signing with Wormholedeath Records for the release of their upcoming album ‘Atrocitas’. The album, set to drop on December 21, 2024, promises to be a dark, brutal continuation of the band’s signature sound, following the path they forged with their debut release, Underground Rituals of Those Unseen.
Gravethorn on Signing with Wormholedeath: “I am truly excited to be working with the Wormholedeath family on this release. I’ve put a lot of hard work and sacrifice into putting this all together, learning new things, and experimenting with others, and I didn’t want to just go through anybody to get it out there for the world to hear. Carlo Belotti and Wormholedeath are absolutely on top of their game in this profession, and the bands on Wormholedeath are all incredible talents and gifted musicians, evidenced by the discipline and hard work they put into their craft. In an era where the current crop of metal is truly growing in popularity and there are so many bands out there sounding very similar, it seems that Wormholedeath certainly can pick the best from several ends of the spectrum and bring them to their exotic landscape of creative brilliance. I’m very excited to call Wormholedeath our home.”
Gravethorn’s new release “Atrocitas” is a continuation of the debut release, “Underground Rituals of Those Unseen”. Harnessing the anger and sense of overcoming all who oppress- the battle wages on as we are slowly uniting as a people and coming together in numbers to dissolve those who feel the greed for power, whether religious, political, financial, or other. If there ever was going to be an uprising, perhaps Atrocitas would be the soundtrack of a revolution. It was written and recorded in Krystof’s studio when he had COVID-19, and some of the medication he was taking may have influenced how the music came out (perhaps it opened the doors to the spiritual world to share ideas of those no longer with us).
Atrocitas also features contributions from notable collaborators, including Joshua Bednarski (from the band Atomic War Machine) and Dave Sharpe (from the bands Dead by Wednesday, End Time Illusion, The Cro-Mags, and Dave Ellefson’s [of Megadeth] side band).
Tracklist:
Atrocitas
The Great Thaw
Epic Battle
Destined to Burn
In Vengeance We Hunt
Barbaric War Declared
Hymns of Forbidden Places (feat. Joshua Bednarski)
Within the Berserker
Victory by Sunrise (feat. Dave Sharpe)
Creeping Death (Metallica Cover)
Dive into the dark world of Gravethorn with the lyric video for ‘Barbaric War Declared’:
Gravethorn is a Blackened Death Metal band from Las Vegas, NV, formed in 2021 by Krystof during his journey to learn extreme metal mixing in his home studio, built during the 2020 pandemic. Initially working with recordings from his previous band Achromatica, which eventually disbanded, Krystof continued creating music, resulting in the release of several songs on Spotify and YouTube. Drummer Bob Hill (from Achromatica) later joined, and in October 2023, they unleashed their debut album, Underground Rituals of Those Unseen, which received critical acclaim from outlets like Metalized, Rock Hard, and Slowly We Rot.
Gravethorn’s unique sound blends influences from bands like Emperor, Deicide, Amon Amarth, and even The Doors and Led Zeppelin, creating a distinctive blend of Blackened Death Metal. Known for embracing collaboration, the band has worked with notable musicians, including Glenn Lai (Achromatica) and Brian Crapser (Putrid Decay).
While quarantined with COVID-19 in October 2023, Krystof channeled his energy into writing and recording new material, resulting in the upcoming 2024 album Atrocitas, set to be released via Wormholedeath Records. Gravethorn continues to defy rigid genre classifications, staying true to their simple goal of making metal music, unbound by specific labels.
The band comments: ” “Sankarin matka” (A Hero’s Journey) is a concept album consisting of an intro and 7 songs. Its dreamlike story slowly advances towards indescribable horrors, which waver between dream and reality, until the truth is exposed in all of its heinousness.
The album has been under making for nearly 2 years in our home studio, and it is finally ready for release despite many set packs.
Musically, the album consists of a broad range of sounds, some of which are already familiar to our music, but we’re also bringing a lot of fresh soundscape to this album.
Influences and sounds of black metal, british deathdoom and progressive rock can be heard, breaking the boundaries of any particular genre.
The musical influences mixed with our vision form an original whole that sounds only of itself.
New songs are also currently in the making, and they’re taking Noitasapatti’s vision even further!“
NOITASAPATTI was born in spring 2017 in Pori, Finland by Erakko (vocals), Liekkiö (guitars, keyboards), Mielivalta (guitars) and Rampa (bass). Soon after that, Rienaaja joined us as a drummer and the first line-up was complete. After a couple of months of intensive rehearsing and composing, we recorded our first demo, “Vaellamme kuin Taivaankappaleet” on december 2017 and released it on CDr-format spring 2018. First live-show took place in our hometown also in the same spring. After that, Rampa left the band and Erakko began to play bass. Next year we recorded a second demo, “Aarnivalkean ajamana” and played some gigs. In 2020, we made a split-album with another Finnish band HOLLOW CORPSE. After some line-up changes, Häviö came to the band at the end of 2020 and a few months later, Kadonnut also joined the band to play keyboards. In summer 2021, we finally recorded our first full-length album “Kuolemattomille maille”. After a few successful live-shows it was time to record our second full-length album, “Sankarin matka” (A hero’s journey) in summer 2023. Album is now recorded, mixed, and mastered, and we are more satisfied with the result than ever before!
Our music can be described as 1990’s black metal with lots of melodies and even “burzumic” atmosperes. Also, you can hear influences from early British death/doom, epic viking metal and even some old school progressive music. Vocals are quite original “howling” and also heavily Burzum-influenced screams. Lyrics are written in Finnish.
Marta discovered her passion for the guitar at the age of 14, initially devoting herself to the study of classical music and then switching to the electric guitar, falling in love with heavy metal music. After several musical projects, MARTA VIX now begins her solo career.
‘Wings Of Forgiveness ’ is about having a second chance to redeem yourself. It tells of a person who has made a mistake, a victim of herself and the society in which she lives. However, she is given a second chance, but it will be very difficult to carry out the mission assigned to her to come out of the darkness. She must help a man, who must face his own mistakes and fears… and save him from his own sad fate. The track is characterized by dark, deep, and at times dissonant sounds. The guitars dominate with biting and direct riffs.
