Swedish progressive psychedelic rock band GAUPA has released a video for their digital single, ‘Sömnen & Febersvan – Live At Monkey Moon Studios’, a live rendition of two contrasting songs culminating in a captivating psychedelic experience.
It’s the second excerpt from an intimate studio session the band played in late May 2023. Following their much-lauded appearances at both Desertfest London and Desertfest Berlin, GAUPA went to Monkey Moon Recordings in Dortmund, Germany and recorded three songs live over the course of an afternoon, ‘Moloken’ from their critically acclaimed most recent album Myriad as well as a breathtakingly intense 11-minute joint version of their songs ‘Sömnen’ and ‘Febersvan’, the former also from Myriad, the latter taken off of GAUPA’s self-titled first EP.

Swedish high energy rock and roll band THE HELLACOPTERS released their eighth studio album titled Eyes Of Oblivion on April 1st, 2022. It marked the first full-length since the release of their temporary farewell record Head Off in 2008, and was met with massive acclaim from fans and media alike. Charting #1 in Sweden, #3 in Germany, #6 in Finland, the band celebrated a triumphant return culminating in a show with the mighty Iron Maiden in Gothenburg in July 2022, and gigs with Ghost in Germany in June 2023.
On February 16th, 2024 they will now release not one, but two stunning versions of their classic Grande Rock album. Entitled Grande Rock Revisited it has been remastered by Henke Jonsson, and furthermore has been completely remixed by Michael Ilbert at Hansa Studios, Berlin using the original multi-track tapes and reanimated with a whole lot of additional layers of rock! The result showcases how the record could have sounded in a parallel universe with Dregen being in the band at the time, and with a more balanced mix, something the band had been pondering about for quite a while. “We all love loud guitars”,Nicke explains, “but not at the expense of drums and bass, which is pretty much the gist of the original mix. It’s ALL guitars”. So whether you do not want to spend way over 100 Euro for one of the rare original LPs or are excited to hear a revamped, re-rocked new mix of Grande Rock, Grande Rock Revisited gives you both plus a double-album-cover design by singer/guitarist Nicke added as visual treat on top. THE HELLACOPTERS make Rock Grande again!
US doom metal giants THE OBSESSED premiere the second single taken from their long-anticipated fifth album “Gilded Sorrow”, to be released on February 16th through Ripple Music. Stream “Stoned Back To The Bomb Age” via Metal Injection now!
Fronted by legendary guitarist and vocalist Scott “Wino” Weinrich, the iconic doom metal powerhouse THE OBSESSED comes roaring back after seven years with their awaited new studio album and Ripple Music debut “Gilded Sorrow”. Expanded to a four-piece with Jason Taylor on rhythm guitar, their music is more aggressive, straightforward and downright mean than ever before: firing on all cylinders, the foursome delivers their most rocking album of all time with “Gilded Sorrow”. Described by Wino as “the heaviest thing he’s ever done“, this new sonic onslaught from the mighty East Coast foursome is about to leave an indelible mark on the 2024 heavy music landscape!
About the song, frontman Scott “Wino” Weinrich says: “There was a time when I listened to a lot of daytime radio to take the edge off an extremely mundane lifestyle. George W. Bush was president and the USA had started the Afghanistan war. One day, I heard Deputy Secretary of Defense Armitage say: “If Pakistan gets involved in this, we will bomb them back to the stone age.” I was struck by the callous brutality of this statement, and we crafted “Stoned Back to the Bomb Age” in a straightforward fukk you to these inhuman war pigs and the other unelected swine that run the world and are plotting humanities demise as you read this!“
“Gilded Sorrow” was produced by Frank Marchand, Scott “Wino” Weinrich and Jason Taylor. Mixed and engineered by Frank Marchand and mastered by Alan Douches. It will be issued on vinyl, CD and digital on February 16th through Ripple Music. Don’t forget to watch their latest video for “It’s Not OK”!
Scott “Wino” Weinrich is a living legend. In a way, he is the American version of Lemmy and shares many traits with the late, much-beloved metal icon. He’s always been a rebel, loner and an outsider in an outsider scene, pursuing his music without regard for popularity or acceptance. In the process, he came to be considered one of the early pioneers of American doom. All of this began when he founded THE OBSESSED back in the 70s, then pursued through his many other outfits such as Saint Vitus or Spirit Caravan. As a key part of the 80s Washington/Maryland music scene, his music earned the respect of metal, punk and crossover fans alike while often being dubbed doom metal. Looking back, it was just gritty, street-wise American metal with a cynical bent and psychedelic flair, and this is what made him the unique and timeless heavy music icon he is today.
THE OBSESSED was formed in the late 1970s in Potomac, Maryland by legendary guitarist Scott “Wino” Weinrich (Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan). The band spawned in the realm of musicians/artists such as Black Sabbath, Frank Zappa, The Dictators, and The Stooges. The earliest lineup consisted of Wino, bassist Mark Laue, guitarist John Reese, and drummer Dave Flood. In 1983, Wino took over vocal duties and the band became a three-piece to record the Sodden Jackal EP. The band broke up in the late 80s after Wino moved to California to join Saint Vitus. At that time, a German label, Hellhound Records, and the booking agency that had signed Saint Vitus, released The Obsessed, originally recorded in 1985, prompting Wino to reform THE OBSESSED. After multiple lineup changes, the band signed to Columbia Records in 1994 to release their third and final album, The Church Within. Despite highly acclaimed reviews, they would break up following the release, seeing Wino forming Spirit Caravan (then Shine) and other projects.
In September 2011, THE OBSESSED returned to the stage at Roadburn Festival with The Church Within‘s legendary lineup of Wino, Greg Rogers, and Guy Pinhas. The band played a few more reunion shows over the next couple of years, including Hellfest Open Air in 2012 and Maryland Deathfest XI in May 2013 with bassist Reid Raley. Wino announced the full-time return of the band iin March 2016 and the band’s official signing to Relapse Records to record the follow-up to The Church Within. The new lineup originally consisted of Spirit Caravan bassist Dave Sherman and Wino’s longtime friend and former road crew member Brian Costantino (drums). On October 31st, 2016, Wino announced a new lineup change, including Bruce Falkinburg (bass) and Seraphim (guitar), making it the first time the band had been a four-piece in over thirty-five years.
In 2017, THE OBSESSED unleashed Sacred, the band’s first studio album in over twenty years, further pushing the band into the annals of heavy metal history. After a few years on the road, the lineup stabilized around Brian Costantino on drums, Chris Angleberger on bass, Jason Taylor on guitar, and Scott “Wino” Weinrich at the helm. The iconic foursome is now ready to embrace this new decade in doom with their awaited fifth album “Gilded Sorrow”, to be released in February 2024 as part of their new collaboration with Californian label Ripple Music.
THE OBSESSED is: Scott “Wino” Weinrich – lead guitar, lead vocals Brian Costantino – drums, backing vocals Chris Angleberger – bass Jason Taylor – rhythm guitar
Southern rock titans ROBERT JON & THE WRECK have released their latest single “Help Yourself,” adding a new chapter to their expanding legacy in the music world. Available now on all digital platforms, “Help Yourself” is a mellow, rollicking country/rock-leaning track that harks back to the classic tropes of love as a healing force. With its classic sound, the song evokes the spirit of a range of both classic and modern artists like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers Band, and Zac Brown Band, blending the nostalgic essence of Southern rock with a contemporary touch.
“Help Yourself’ is a song about the importance of self-help and taking care of yourself,” comments frontman Robert Jon. “It’s hard to help others unless you help yourself and take care of yourself first.”

The release of “Help Yourself” follows the success of their earlier singles, including “Hold On,” a heartfelt portrayal of the touring life’s challenges and high energy rock and roll anthem “Stone Cold Killer”. This single, like their previous work, has been praised for its emotional depth and compelling musicality. In addition to the release of their new studio album Ride Into The Light, this year also saw RJTW release their first-ever concert film, Live At The Ancienne Belgique, which dropped in April. Reigning from Southern California, Robert Jon & The Wreck take the Southern rock sound from the east coast and make it their own. Since their inception in 2011, these native Californians; Robert Jon Burrison (lead vocals, guitar), Andrew Espantman (drums, background vocals), Henry James Schneekluth (lead guitar, background vocals), and Warren Murrel (bass) have been electrifying audiences all over the world with their soaring guitar leads, rich vocal harmonies, and memorable tunes. Season of Mist is proud to welcome DEFEATED SANITY to its label!
Defeated Sanity have a long and bloody history. Their 1996 demo, Devoured By The Black, was crafted by father-son duo Wolfgang Teske and Lille Gruber.
Over the next 20 years, Defeated Sanity grew to become one of the most consistently innovative bands in all of death metal. Their take on sheer brutality is unmatched. The musicianship is frantic yet precise, informed by jazz, classical and a bloodthirsty taste for the old-school. Add today’s blistering modern playing style to the mix and you get a uniquely grotesque cocktail that has brought metalheads from across the globe to their knees, begging for more.
After starting out via UK label Grindethic, Defeated Sanity found a new home on Willowtip. They released four acclaimed albums for the US label. Chapters of Repugnance was classified by Blabbermouth as “exactly the kind of sewage-spew bulldozing to which BDM devotees flock”, who recommended long-time bassist Jacob Schmidt’s low end for anyone interested in having “a lifetime of inner ear problems”. Even Pitchfork weighed in on their follow-up Passages Into Deformity, asserting that Defeated Sanity have always been a decapitated head above their peers.
With the two-headed monster Disposal of the Dead / Dharmata, Defeated Sanity did something unheard of: they recorded a split with…themselves? The first half of the album was written in their native tongue of death metal, while the other veered all the way into progressive death metal by placing Cynic/Death to All vocalist Max Phelps at the helm.
Now, Defeated Sanity are signing to Season of Mist. Joined by new guitarist Vaughn Stoffey, the band are hard at work on their seventh album, which will come out sometime in 2024. They’re also playing next year’s Maryland Deathfest with new labelmates Severe Torture and Brodequin.
“We are extremely pleased to announce our signing to Season of Mist”, the band says. “We want to thank Willowtip for their contributions to Defeated Sanity’s legacy. Looking back, it has been quite a journey for us, from Chapters to Sanguinary. The band has musically grown immensely over the years, and so has our fanbase.
We are ready to start our next chapter under the Season of Mist banner and have never been more committed to delivering the finest blend of technical and brutal death metal that’s ever been brought forth. More album details coming soon!”

Platinum-selling rock juggernaut P.O.D. — Sonny Sandoval [vocals], Marcos Curiel [guitar], and Traa Daniels [bass] — kicked off the fall with the video for their new single “DROP,” which features a vicious vocal cameo from Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe. It earned quick press accolades from Metal Injection, Rock Hard, Revolver, Rolling Stone, Metal Hammer, Rock Sound and Knotfest.
Today, the band is back with another blast and is sharing the video for the equally eruptive single “AFRAID TO DIE,” featuring Jinjer vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk.
It’s an anthemic song with an edge — and the collaboration was born of P.O.D. and Jinjer’s Fall 2022 tour.
“AFRAID TO DIE is a combination of cryptic and triumphant melodies,” says Curiel. “It has storytelling rhymes and chugged verses, and a wide open, melodic yet semi-morbid, chorus. It’s anthemic In every sense of the word.” He continues, “Our dear friend Tatiana Shmayluk offers her unique approach and we had incredible musical chemistry with her. This is P.O.D. hitting the human core of our existence and dealing with love, fear, integrity, and most of all, family and friends. It’s ultimately an abundance of love and life.”
ABOUT P.O.D.: They’ve been a band — and a vital one at that — for more than 30 years. But ask rock icons P.O.D. what still inspires them after all this time, and they’ll tell you they still operate as if they’re perpetual underdogs. Yes, with every new album they release, with every show they play, these musical lifers still feel they have something to prove. “We’re still here and we’re still creating some of the best music we’ve ever made,” says guitarist Marcos Curiel. “When it comes to heart, grit and soul, P.O.D. is your band.” Adds vocalist Sonny Sandoval: “We’re always still proving who we are — always having that punk-rock mentality.”
It’s this mindset, this unrelenting grit that has long defined the platinum-selling P.O.D. and continues to do so as they march proudly into the next era of their long-winding journey of a career. Now, they are nearly five years removed from their previous studio album, Circles, which to date has been streamed more than 50 million times and spawned the hit “Listening to Silence.” Earlier this year, the band returned with new single “DROP.” The track is a sonic boom of a cut, and features a thrilling vocal turn from Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe. “Dude, it’s the sickest thing ever,” Curiel said of “DROP,” which was inspired by the guitarist’s longtime love of electronic music. “When that drop hits, everyone knows it,” he adds. “We needed to create a song in that way…P.O.D. style.”
P.O.D.’s audience has always been at the core of everything the band does, and to that end, their live shows remain essential to who they are. They’ve played major festivals including the Sick New World, INKcarceration and Hell and Heaven Fest, and have shared stages with the likes of KORN, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Evanescence and Seether.
