The initial idea for “Run Back to Me” first came to songwriter Desirae Megan as she was scrolling through Instagram and came across a beautiful photo of Robert Jon and his family. She felt deeply in that moment, thinking about how hard it can be to be away from the ones you love while on tour. A melody immediately popped into her head, and she knew she wanted to write something to help Robert, River, and Rachael feel more connected to Robert Jon while he was away on tour.
Months later a road trip to Phoenix, Arizona, for a RJTW gig with partner and keyboardist for the band, Jake Abernathie, Desirae floated the idea and they immediately began working on it during the 5-hour drive to the gig. This was the initial birth point of what would later be called “Run Back to Me,” a poignant southern rock ballad about staying connected to the ones you love when you’re away.
Since forming in 2011, Robert Jon & The Wreck; Robert Jon Burrison (vocals, guitar), Henry James (lead guitar, vocals), Andrew Espantman (drums, vocals), Warren Murrel (bass), and Jake Abernathie (keyboards) – have built a devoted global following through relentless touring and an unshakable live chemistry that bridges Southern rock tradition with California soul.
Fresh off their Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes 2026 U.S. Tour, the band are looking forward to touring the U.K. and Europe again in April and May 2026. Tickets are available from www.robertjonandthewreck.com.

Southern California roots-rockers Robert Jon & The Wreck return with “Back To The Beginning Again,” a powerful stand-alone single recorded at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, self-produced by the band and mixed by engineer Alex Pasco. Anchored by stacked guitars, a swampy groove, and soaring vocals, the song is a textbook southern rocker, subtly infused with shades of ’90s grunge and alternative influences.
STREAM “Back To The Beginning Again.” Watch the official music video below.
“‘Back To The Beginning Again’ was written while on tour sometime last year,” shares guitarist Henry James. “The song reflects on deeper feelings of disillusionment and depression that happen while on tour and working in the music industry as a whole.” Built around a sludgy, bluesy riff and a howling Hammond organ solo by keyboardist Jake Abernathie, the track captures both the band’s introspective side and their trademark swagger.
As Henry explains, “As we get more invested in the business, politics, and hustle of this life, it can become difficult to feel connected to the initial pureness and excitement of playing music that made us fall in love with it as children and teenagers.” Lyrically, the song yearns to return to that simplicity – “a desire to go back to those feelings of excitement and freshness from the early years of performing in bands.” The result is an emotionally charged reflection on mental health, purpose, and rediscovering the spark that first inspired their love of music.
“Back To The Beginning Again” follows the band’s acclaimed studio album Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes, out now via Joe Bonamassa’s Journeyman Records. Order it here.
Produced by Grammy-winner Dave Cobb and mixed by Greg Gordon (Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson), the album captures the group’s raw live energy across ten tracks, earning praise for its blend of “soulful storytelling and sheer rock-and-roll firepower.” – Classic Rock Magazine

Southern California roots rockers Robert Jon & The Wreck have released their new studio album Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes, out today via Joe Bonamassa’s Journeyman Records. Recorded in Savannah, Georgia with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb and mixed by Greg Gordon (Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson), the album captures the band’s raw live spirit and emotional depth across ten tracks that blend rock-and-soul grit with timeless storytelling. As Rock & Blues Muse raves, the record is “a true testament to their ability to capture the human experience through music.”
Alongside the album, the band has unveiled its title track and latest single, “Heartbreak & Last Goodbye.” The song took shape from a simple acoustic idea and evolved under Cobb’s guidance into one of the record’s most powerful moments.
“It took one listen through for Dave to guide us to the arrangement that felt right,” shares guitarist Henry James. “It’s a climactic and emotional song, with tuneful piano from Jake Abernathie, mellotron textures, and Robert Jon’s deeply passionate vocals. Lyrically, it’s an age-old tale of heartbreak – raising a glass to love lost and the ghost it leaves behind.” With its sing-along chorus – “So, pour me more liquor and forget the ice, ‘cause I’ve been watered down too many times” – the track channels sorrow into celebration, delivering a cathartic centerpiece for the record.
Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes builds on the momentum of recent singles like “Dark Angel,” “Keep Myself Clean,” “Better Of Me,” and “I Wanna Give It,” each offering a glimpse into the album’s range of moods and textures. From the haunting tones of “Ashes in the Snow” to the driving energy of “Highway,” the record maps out the highs and lows of love, loss, and renewal, affirming the band’s evolution into one of today’s most dynamic rock outfits. Classic Rock Magazine hailed the album as “their most accomplished work to date,” noting the band’s ability to balance “soulful storytelling with sheer rock-and-roll firepower.”

Southern California roots-rockers Robert Jon & The Wreck continue the rollout of their upcoming album Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes with the release of their latest single,
“I Wanna Give It,” out now via Joe Bonamassa’s Journeyman Records.
Co-written during the quiet, uncertain stretch when touring had come to a halt, “I Wanna Give It” takes inspiration from long nights spent jamming with friends on a porch in San Juan Capistrano. “It was a bit of a throwback,” shares lead guitarist Henry James. “We’d play acoustic guitars into the early hours, doing whatever we could to keep our minds at ease.” Written in collaboration with longtime friends Ian Cullen and Shane Krevoy (who also co-wrote “Oh Miss Carolina”), the track was brought to life with producer Dave Cobb at the helm, capturing the warm, wistful tone of a country-leaning rock song that feels both deeply personal and instantly familiar.
Lyrically, “I Wanna Give It” tells a story of fearless love and reckless abandon – of running away with someone even when the outcome is uncertain. “It doesn’t necessarily have a happy ending,” James says, “but it’s told with no regrets. Love can blind us sometimes, but it can also inspire us to live boldly. That’s something we all deserve to feel.”
“I Wanna Give It” is the latest in a powerful string of singles leading up to Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes, following the smouldering “Keep Myself Clean,” the haunting “Dark Angel,” the swaggering “Better Of Me,” the electrifying “Highway,” and the reflective “Ashes in the Snow.” Each track builds on the album’s emotional arc and further expands the band’s range, offering a deeply felt meditation on love, loss, and finding your footing again.
Recorded in Savannah, Georgia, with Cobb, the album captures the group’s dynamic live energy and tight-knit chemistry, honed through years of touring together. Mixed by Greg Gordon (Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson), Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes will be available August 22nd on CD, digital platforms, and limited edition coloured vinyl, with special merch bundles also on offer.
Since forming in 2011, Robert Jon & The Wreck – Robert Jon Burrison (vocals, guitar), Henry James (lead guitar, vocals), Andrew Espantman (drums, vocals), Warren Murrel (bass), and Jake Abernathie (keys) – have carved out a loyal international following with their Southern-tinged rock-and-soul sound, sharp songwriting, and explosive live shows.
The band recently wrapped up a summer European tour, with dates in Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium, including standout appearances at Hookrock Festival and Melkweg in Amsterdam. Now back in the US, they’re gearing up for a packed August with headlining shows and summer festivals, including shows at Fargo Blues Festival, Stone Pier, Madison Ribberfest, and Telluride Blues and Brews Festival.
