Southern California roots rockers Robert Jon & The Wreck have released their new studio album Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes, out today via Joe Bonamassa’s Journeyman Records. Recorded in Savannah, Georgia with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb and mixed by Greg Gordon (Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson), the album captures the band’s raw live spirit and emotional depth across ten tracks that blend rock-and-soul grit with timeless storytelling. Alongside the album, the band has unveiled its title track and latest single, “Heartbreak & Last Goodbye.” The song took shape from a simple acoustic idea and evolved under Cobb’s guidance into one of the record’s most powerful moments.
“It took one listen through for Dave to guide us to the arrangement that felt right,” shares guitarist Henry James. “It’s a climactic and emotional song, with tuneful piano from Jake Abernathie, mellotron textures, and Robert Jon’s deeply passionate vocals. Co-written during the quiet, uncertain stretch when touring had come to a halt, “I Wanna Give It” takes inspiration from long nights spent jamming with friends on a porch in San Juan Capistrano. “It was a bit of a throwback,” shares lead guitarist Henry James. “We’d play acoustic guitars into the early hours, doing whatever we could to keep our minds at ease.” Written in collaboration with longtime friends Ian Cullen and Shane Krevoy (who also co-wrote “Oh Miss Carolina”), the track was brought to life with producer Dave Cobb at the helm, capturing the warm, wistful tone of a country-leaning rock song that feels both deeply personal and instantly familiar.
Lyrically, “I Wanna Give It” tells a story of fearless love and reckless abandon – of running away with someone even when the outcome is uncertain. “It doesn’t necessarily have a happy ending,” James says, “but it’s told with no regrets. Love can blind us sometimes, but it can also inspire us to live boldly. That’s something we all deserve to feel.”

“‘Keep Myself Clean’ came together in Savannah from a few different ideas, with Dave Cobb’s brilliance shaping an entirely new concept,” says guitarist Henry James. “It was raw, menacing, and powerful—Dave even plays a few guitar tracks on it. We rolled tape with that energy still fresh in our fingers.”
“Lyrically, it’s a cautionary tale inspired by life in the fast lane,” he continues. “It warns of the risks of chasing the next party or fix, and how that path can lead people we know down some dark roads. “Dark Angel” tells the story of a mysterious woman in Savannah, Georgia—equal parts memory, mirage, and muse. With evocative storytelling, moody guitar licks, and a groove steeped in country-soul swagger, the track captures a shadowy slice of Southern mythos, blurring the line between love and longing.
“‘Dark Angel’ was another song that came out of our writing sessions at Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A,” says guitarist Henry James. “We had the privilege of working with singer-songwriter Leslie Satcher (George Strait, Martina McBride, Gretchen Wilson, Patty Loveless, and Vince Gill), with lyrics inspired by one of her personal experiences as a touring musician. It tells the tale of an encounter with a mysterious woman in a bar in Savannah, GA—leaving plenty of room for poetic embellishment. Her knack for storytelling and wordplay was evident, and we had great chemistry as line after line poured out of her. The song was a natural fit for Cobb’s production, with punchy riffs and a classic southern/country rock groove. By coincidence, we recorded the song in the very city that inspired it—Savannah. We’re excited and proud to share ‘Dark Angel’ with the world.”

“‘Better Of Me’ is a track co-written with our good friend and long-time collaborator Nick Foster,” shares guitarist Henry James. “Initially conceived from a Zoom writing session conducted while on tour, the song took on new life with Dave Cobb’s production genius. Led by some inspired piano riffing, it’s a jamming, rollicking tune that wears its heart on its sleeve and transports us back to some of our favourite albums like The Basement Tapes and Second Helping. The track is an empowering affirmation that talks about not letting anyone get the best of you and not caring what others think. It encourages the listener to move forward on their own path in life, unburdened by whatever obstacles may present themselves.”

Alongside the announcement, the band has shared their latest single, ‘Highway‘, a soaring, mid-tempo rocker that showcases everything fans have come to love about The Wreck: blistering twin guitar harmonies, emotionally charged vocals, and a driving rhythm section. Produced by Cobb and recorded in Savannah, “Highway” blends the band’s classic heartland sound with fresh, cinematic urgency.
“‘Highway’ is a favourite of ours on Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes—a song that started as a loose melodic concept on an acoustic guitar in Henry’s apartment, and evolved into a full-blown powerhouse,” adds Robert. “When we brought it into rehearsals in Costa Mesa, it just clicked with the band. Dave Cobb helped us elevate the track by pushing the tempo and building out the dynamics. Lyrically, it’s a heartfelt love song—wide open, full throttle, and impossible to get out of your head.”
“It never strayed far from the original vision Robert and I had,” notes guitarist Henry James. “Cobb brought a new level of spontaneity and emotional edge to the sessions. This track hits hard and still gives you the feels—it’s everything we love about rock ’n’ roll.”
According to bassist Warren Murrel, the Savannah sessions represented a major turning point for the band: “For the first time in our band’s history, we had the opportunity to live at the studio while recording. Instead of dealing with LA traffic and squeezing in sessions between other commitments, we got to immerse ourselves fully in the music—writing, recording, and refining songs every day for over a week. It was an experience that allowed us to be completely present in the creative process. Dave Cobb has a way of getting under the hood of a song, pushing it further than we ever thought possible. His guidance challenged us in the best ways and helped bring this album to life in a way we’re truly proud of.”
Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes captures the band at a creative peak, drawing from real-life experiences of love, loss, and redemption. Across ten riveting tracks, Robert Jon & The Wreck explores the full emotional spectrum, delivered with thunderous riffs, razor-sharp grooves, and some of their most compelling lyrics to date. The album was mixed by Greg Gordon, known for his work with Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, and Rival Sons. It will be available on CD, limited edition coloured vinyl, and in special merch bundles, including an exclusive shirt and bandana package.
“This album is a candid musical reflection of who we are today,” adds Henry. “Tales of love gone awry, love gone right, camaraderie, estrangement, lessons learned, dark shadows, and bright lights—all wrapped into one.”
“Highway” follows the release of several acclaimed tracks from the upcoming album, including the fiery, John Oates co-written “Long Gone,” the introspective ballad “Ashes in the Snow,” and the high-octane “Sittin’ Pretty.” Each single has spotlighted a different facet of the band’s evolving sound, building anticipation for what promises to be their most ambitious album yet.
The band is currently on the road for a packed 2025 tour that includes headline dates across Europe and North America, plus appearances at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Askena Rock Festival, Hookrock, and Chinook Fest.
