Italian blackened deathcore band DROWN IN SULPHUR will release the new album ‘Dark Secrets of the Soul’ on January 12th through Scarlet Records.
First single and video ‘Eclipse of the Sun of Eden’ out now!
Perfectly balanced between modern, razor-sharp deathcore brutality & bone-chilling 90s black metal atmospheres, the new Drown In Sulphur album is a collection of violent and melodic dark songs that introduces the listener to an esoteric experience, touching the deepest and most controversial aspects of the human soul.
Sharing the stage with genre’s titans like Whitechapel, Carnifex, Rings Of Saturn, Aversion Crown and I Declare War gave Drown In Sulphur the opportunity to become a well-oiled live unit and further develop their own stylistic approach at the same time.
‘Dark Secrets of the Soul’ is an introspective journey in search of man’s spiritual elevation, taking as reference the image of the “vampire communion”, alternating anger, despair and rebellion and moving on to more fragile moments until the very final redemption.

December 1, 2023 will see Canadian thrash metal titans, AGGRESSION, return with their brand new offering, titled “Frozen Aggressors”. The album will be released as CD Digipak, Ltd. Vinyl LP and Digital formats through Massacre Records, the pre-sale is available at: https://lnk.to/frozenaggressors
Following a previously-released, first single – “Circus Of Deception”, today, AGGRESSION are premiering a music video for “Song #666″. “For this one, Kyle wrote the lyrics and Sasquatch wrote the music with Ryan providing some riff ideas as well,” the band reveals. “It’s a combination of our love for punk and metal crossover, Ramones, Pennywise are definitely influences here and probably some S.O.D. too. Sasquatch wrote the main riff years ago as a tribute to Running Wild’s “Adrian S.O.S.” and then it morphed into Song #666. Lyrically it’s a synopsis of the current Russian/Ukraine conflict and basically asking ourselves: “Why you war!?”
“It’s a perfect crossover blend, delivered from our black hearts, influenced by ancient recordings of the past that changed our lives.” Says the band about their forthcoming, sixth studio album. “Fast, furious, and straight through your face!”
“Frozen Aggressors” brings the listeners back to the golden era of thrash, where every song was a unique experience. The new album promises to propel AGGRESSION in its right due place amongst other Canadian thrash legends! “Frozen Aggressors” was mixed and mastered by Dan Yakimow at Northview Studios, the cover artwork was created by Stephanie White of Artistry Fartistry.

Prepare to embark on a sonic journey through the cosmos as Pretoria based, South African heavy alternative cosmic rock sensation, CRASH AND THE VOID, unveils their latest creation: The Villain out today on Mongrel Records. This genre-defying single, coupled with a visually stunning music video, promises to captivate audiences worldwide with its unique blend of cosmic soundscapes and thought-provoking themes. The track is taken from their self-titled debut album set to drop early 2024.
Inspired by the profound philosophies of political thinker Hannah Arendt and the controversial concept of “moral relativism”, The Villain delves into the depths of moral relativism, drawing further inspiration from the profound works of Friedrich Nietzsche. The track challenges preconceived notions of villainy, offering a satirical take on the archetype by portraying the antagonist as sly, banal, and calculated – a far cry from the conventional, over-the-top depictions.
The Villain narrates the story of a determined go-getter, navigating a world teeming with individuals driven by bad circumstances and chance. The character, portrayed with an unexpected relatability, struggles to sow chaos and disorder. Despite failing to achieve the intended mayhem, the Villain’s resilience and perseverance make him an unexpectedly endearing and relatable figure.
When asked about the inspiration behind the song vocalist, guitarist and chief songwriter Marius Schutte says, “I tried to write a song that combines classic rock tropes with film score elements usually associated with Villains and bad guys, combining the two sounds left me with the basic building blocks of The Villain. The chord changes make you feel like a super-villain executing your master plan to secure world domination.”

The band is currently preparing their second studio album but before that they’ll release a 3-track EP titled Covers III on December 15th 2023. The chosen cover tracks are Toxic (Britney Spears), Sweet Death (King Dude) and Lethean (Katatonia).
The second single Sweet Death originally performed by King Dude and Shannon F. is now available on streaming services: https://push.fm/fl/rioghan-sweet – Photo by Aarni Visuals – Single cover layout by Sakari Tuokkola
Rioghan comments Sweet Death: “Sweet Death became my favorite song that instant when I heard King Dude’s ‘Death’-album for the first time. It also became obvious, that this song had to be visited, if I only could find a suitable duet-partner. And of course we did, Tony Kaikkonen agreed to sing with me on this release too. Instrumentally we turned the song a bit to the heavier side, and for vocals we channeled our inner gothic atmosphere. All in all, a lovely song, where the lyrics also let you sink into the darkening autumn nights.”

With a number of successful singles released so far to support it, British/Danish rock singer MICHAEL CATTON releases today his debut solo album “Point Of No Return”. Catton’s album promises to deliver the energy and flamboyance of the 80’s, with renowned producer and guitarist Soren Andersen (Glenn Hughes, Electric Guitars) bringing a powerful and punchy production to this modern masterpiece of rock.
“This album has been growing inside of me for the past 15 years, since I first got hooked on rock music as a teenager; the energy, the attitude, the bravado – all my influences rolled into a single album. I can’t wait to unleash it,” says Catton. As the frontman of Danish rock band Tainted Lady, Catton became widely recognised as the standout singer of the modern rock scene, being compared to the likes of Steven Tyler, Ian Gillan and Bruce Dickinson. “After Tainted Lady had split, I quickly realised that I had to make my own way as an artist. It was a heart-wrenching experience, but it gave me the space to find my own feet and the opportunity to work with some of the most experienced and talented musicians on the Danish rock scene”.
“Point Of No Return” is out today on LP (black vinyl, limited to 300), CD and digital formats via Mighty Music. Orders are available here. The digital version is available here.
Having already collaborated with Catton, producing Tainted Lady’s widely acclaimed albums “How The Mighty Have Fallen” and “Sounds Like Freedom // Feels Like War”, Andersen is guitarist, producer and co-writer on the album. “There aren’t many Michael Cattons out there,” says Andersen. “He’s the whole package, and he knows it. That’s why I got hold of him as soon as I heard that Tainted Lady had split up. We dived straight into the songwriting and quickly had ten bangers ready. We attempted to keep the production as if we had tracked on tape in 1987 – not too many overdubs or Pro Tools tricks; just focusing on the songs, performance and lyrics, and I think it shows. I’m very proud of the result and I’m excited to see the reaction”.
Also co-writer on the album and playing keys is Michael’s brother Chris Catton (Boys From Heaven). “Music is what really brought us together growing up, and this was a fantastic opportunity to finally work on a project together.” The Catton brothers spent countless late nights in the Boys From Heaven frontman’s studio writing and recording demos, before recording the album in full with Andersen in the legendary Medley Studios in the heart of Copenhagen.
“The whole process unfolded while I was touring with my Guilty Pleasures trio consisting of myself, drummer Allan Tschicaja (Pretty Maids) and bassist Michael Gersdorff (Superfuzz)”, says Andersen. “It made perfect sense to record the album with them – there isn’t a rhythm section in all of Denmark that can match Tschicaja and Gersdorff”.
The style of hard rock that Catton embodies has slowly been on the rise in the past few years, and he has already made his mark with album features and live performances with the likes of Steel Panther and glam metal icon Kip Winger. “I was born in the 90’s”, Catton declares. “I grew up after most of my favourite bands released their best material, and rock music has rarely hit those highs since. I wanted to make the album that I myself was longing to hear as a teenager. This is the album that has been missing from the record stores, the songs that have been missing from rock bar playlists, the passion that has been absent in so much music in recent years. With this album, I hope to carry the torch for the next generation of rock”.
Lineup: Michael Catton – vocals Soren Andersen – guitar Chris Catton – keyboards, backing vocals Michael Gersdorff – bass Allan Tschicaja – drums
When a label adds an artist to its roster there could be any number of reasons why that particular artist was chosen – from a known history, to a newly recorded album, to a live appearance, etc. In the case of Norwegian Black Metallers TILINTETGJORT, Dark Essence Records interest in the band was piqued by their 2022 demo “Kvikksølvdrømmer – Demo 1”.
Finding that TILINTETGJORT fitted in perfectly with Dark Essence Records musical ethos, and purely on the strength of that demo, the band was welcomed on board that same year, even before they had begun recording their debut full-length album, which would emerge in early 2023 as “In Death I Shall Arise”.
Now, with 2023 drawing to a close, Dark Essence Records will release that very same demo in Digital format on the 10th November, and tracklisting for “Kvikksølvdrømmer – Demo 1”, is as follows:
1. Vinter Og Høst 2. The Wanderer 3. Slakt 4. Blackened Earth 5. Kvikksølvdrømmer 6. Realms at War
“Kvikksølvdrømmer – Demo 1” is now available for download or streaming at a number of services at this location.
One of the most exciting bands to have recently hit Oslo’s Black Metal scene, TILINTETGJORT blur the line between insanity and reality with nightmarish visions that are filled with arcane mysteries and alchemical madness.
Fiercely passionate about what they do, TILINTETGJORT’s lineup of Gamle and Hazzlegard on guitars, Sturt on bass, Tybalt on drums and Svik on vocals, have, since the band’s inception in 2020, honed their skills, formulating their own brand of Avant-garde Black Metal that finds its inspiration in ’70’s Prog, and various other experimental genres, along with ’90’s Black Metal.
With more than their fair share of creativity TILINTETGJORT’s avowed intent is to break down the walls of a genre that is largely stagnating, embarking on a journey to seek out the truth in a widely delusional world, whilst offering to lead the listeners through the mysteries of knowledge and death.
