Extreme experimental metallers BENEVOLENT, based in Dubai, released their first EP entitled ”Divided” in 2010. The trio are set to release their full length album “The Covenant” on March 18th , which features Andols Herrick (ex- CHIMAIRA). Single ‘The Seeker’ is available now.
Blackdiamond caught up with members Hadi Sarieddine, Fadi Sarieddine and Mohammed Gad to find out more. You can read an excerpt and listen to the chat on the player below:
Discussing single ‘The Seeker’ the band stated:
“This one we feel represents the album very well and carries on from where we left off with Divided.”
About the album, the band revealed:
“We’re really stoked, we can’t wait to share this with everybody! It’s not a concept album, but each song has its own individual story, they compliment each other. It’s got the dark thing going, but optimism too.
It’s more progressive than anything on Divided. A lot of the prog moments on this album are really over the top; we all come from prog backgrounds.”

Hails and Metal to you all. As I have said before, heavy metal music has gone far from just being a genre of music, it’s a life style, a philosophy to look at the world …. my guest this time is a British writer specialising in rock and heavy metal. Neil Daniels wrote ten books about bands and artists such as JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, Robert Plant, BON JOVI and most recently, ZZ TOP. Neil‘s career and his newest project, Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers : A ZZ Top Guide, which was released recently, inspired me to conduct an interview with him, which can be read below:
Hello Neil, Thanks for accepting to be my guest on Metal Shock Finland. How are you doing?
I’m good thanks. I’ve just been working on my new website www.neildanielsbooks.com which was launched last Monday. I’ve had 500 hits so far, so close to a thousand already. This year alone I’ve released two books – “Electric World – A Casual Guide To The Music Of Journey’s Neal Schon” and “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers – A ZZ Top Guide”. Finnish rock fans may be keen to know I’ve had three of my books translated to Finnish – Judas Priest, Robert Plant and Iron Maiden.
Let’s start with your newest book, “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers : A ZZ Top Guide,” which was released recently. Would you tell me first, how did you choose the title?
It’s a pun on the ZZ Top song. I try to do that was much as possible with my books – Judas Priest with “Defenders Of the Faith” and Neal Schon with “Electric World”, Journey with “Don’t Stop Believin’” etc. It’s a cool title. I like to think it works well. It kinda sums up the band and their music. Even Motorhead covered it.
What encouraged you to choose ZZ Top, was it because they are one of your favourite bands or it was suggested by someone? And can you tell me more about the process, researching and writing?
There’s not much out there on the band. I know Dave Thompson years ago but since then there’s hardly been anything and given the success of the new album and how much they’re in the rock press I thought it was a no brainer and thankfully Phil and his wife Sue at Soundcheck Books really got behind the idea and commissioned it after my UFO book. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to get ideas off the ground but Phil and Sue have really stuck behind my pitches. It’s a guide to their music and history – the first half of the book is a biography followed by detailed discographies, timelines, trivia, essays/quotes from fellow rock writers and all sorts of other tidbits of info on the band as well as unpublished photos. It’s a really nice looking book. There’s a foreword by Steven Rosen and an afterword by Martin Popoff. It’s out now in the UK and published March 1 in the US.
Ok, let’s go back when you had not started writing about rock or metal, as in when you were still a young school boy, how were your writing skills? For example if you had a dream to become a writer one day.
I don’t think I ever dream to be a writer when I was a kid. I was a film obsessed teenager like Dawson in that cheesy TV show Dawson’s Creek. I’m still a major film buff. I released a collection of my articles on films and TV shows last year called “In A Dark Room – Exploits Of A Genre Fan” and I’m currently working on a film biography for a major London publisher. I’ve also been a pop culture nerd whether it be books, comics, magazines, TV, films and music. I love it all. The one thing us fans have is an opinion, so it just happens that mine gets published. I think I’ve improved as a writer over the years. Some of my earlier stuff makes me cringe so it’s all a learning curve; a process of improvement and refinement.
What encouraged you the most to improve your skills during the years that you were beginning as a writer and perhaps facing some difficulties?
I’m still improving and learning and face difficulties with everything I write. A lack of confidence is a major difficulty to overcome. I certainly had that with the first couple of books. Facing criticism is hard but you learn to use it as an aid rather than an obstacle. I learn something new with each book; how to write, edit, organize etc.
Would you like to share with us, if you have any particular memories or experienced any difficulties during the process of writing your books?
Well, with my UFO biography, I started as I usually do with each book by gathering a list of possible interviewees and approaching them. I got to interview the likes of Leo Lyons, Laurence Archer, Mick Glossop, Nick Tauber and Ron Nevison, amongst other producers and ex members from the band’s history. I then created a chronology of their history going back to 1969 and merged my research into the chronology to create the first draft. It’s very hard to write a book on a famous band and unearth new information in the age of digital information and research because so much is online. Plus, it depends on your own knowledge of the band – one story may have been heard before by one fan but unheard of by another. What this book does is tell the story of the band in a chronological and easy to read fashion – there’s enough geeky detail on the music for seasoned fans and enough casual detail for newcomers. The difficulties are usually always research because there can be so much of it so you have to set yourself deadlines and targets. I get better with each book.
I’ve read somewhere that you love science fiction, fantasy and horror. So do you have any plans to write a novel in those genres? If so, I would like to know if you have any picture formed in your head?
Yes, I love sci-fi, fantasy and horror as well as crime. I love comic books too. One day I’d love to write a book – when I have enough confidence. I have lots of ideas. Neil Gaiman began his career writing features and articles; hack work. He even wrote a Duran Duran book. I’m happy working on the music stuff for now though my aim is to expand into film and TV writing.
What else do you do except writing? Would you like tell us more about your life?
There isn’t much to tell, really. I have a day job and live in the North West of England. I love music, films, TV, books and comics. I’ve just released books on Neal Schon and ZZ Top. Last year I had books out on AC/DC, Pantera and UFO.
Well, as my final question what would be your next project?
Well, I’ve just launched my new website www.neildanielsbooks.com which is a pretty good way to start the year. It includes information on everything I have ever written. On the book front; I have released two so far – the Neal Schon and ZZ Top books. My books on the first four Iron Maiden albums and Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet are due to be released in around 3-4 months. There’ll also be a few more Createspace books. Everything is detailed on the site.
Thank you Neil for giving me your time, feel free to leave a message to your fans and our viewers.
Thanks for taking the time to read my interview. I hope you check out my books. Please visit my website and take a look around. There are links to social media if you wanna get in touch.
BIZAR BAZAR is a mix of Metal, Rock and Folk with a touch of insanity. Their recent release ‘Circus Metal Maniac’ is an exceptional show of talent, unique sequences, expressive guitars, and powerful vocals to mix up everything we once thought was real. I caught up with founding member and musician Fabian Vestod for a few thoughts about his ideas, dreams, and how he perceives the music as a whole.
Hello Dylan, first of all, thanks for making this possible. I also liked your review very much; your ears and imagination captured the soul of the record, my best compliments.
Can you introduce yourselves and tell me more about the concept of the CIRCUS METAL MANIAC?
My name is Fabian Vestod, artist, musician and magick lover. Along with other projects, mainly I do play guitar and sing for Bizar Bazar, back to the “Circus metal Maniac” recording sessions I did take care of the drums as well, Snake Green produced and mixed the whole thing, also tracking the bass, now as official band, mr top hat Simone Merlenghi took the throne behind the drums, then Alice ‘Cecilia’ Lane on bass and Raedon Mac (from the UK band Control the Storm) on accordion. 3 gingers in the band! (Cecila dyes her hair in black). Circus Metal Maniac was the culmination of travels, life experiences and visions translated out of music. Like reality meets dreams. Circus as chaotic, gypsy, nomad, misunderstood – Metal as the main musical influence – and Maniac as the behaviour your need to break artistic boundaries.
Fabian Vestod
How would you say this album stylises your musical influences within it?
Musically I was influenced by many different bands, you can hear the 70s the 80s and the 90s I guess… but it is also through visualisation that I came across this record. Everything has a shape then a sound or vice versa. This is pretty much what the song “lost inside the bazaar” is about. Focus on visions and let them talk through your instrument, or play your instrument to shape an upcoming vision.
Who influences you most as a band and individually?
Well, if we go back in the day, when I was just a kid, Mr. Mustaine is the one who influenced me the most. He was a ginger like me, he was angry and very talented, alone against many, unique guitar style, song writing and voice. I’m sure he used to hit people with a slingshot laughing at them…Then fortunately I have opened my mind to almost every genre of music. Still, mostly, I do appreciate music that sounds like flash and bones. Over producing your music feels like having sex with your clothes on…
What would you say was the most fun part about making the album and which parts (if any) did you want to shout and scream through annoyance?
Scream through annoyance none. A great memory, apart from having friends and musicians stopping by and in somehow getting involved in the recordings, is when I went to North Beach in SF at the old music shop to get the marching band bass drum, huge man. No way to put it in a car or a cab. So I started walking down the street towards the bart station carrying that fat drum on my back. Every Italian in the hood of course knew me, ‘cause I was working there, and they were all like ‘minchia vai’, then when I got to the studio in Berkeley, after another long walk, Snake Green (producer and loyal friend) looked at me and gave me that smile “you are one crazy mother fucker”.
If you had the opportunity to do it again would you? and if you could include any real, or imaginary characteristic to the feel what would it be?
Oh, of course.. I already did. Let me reveal something: through the years I did record a lot of music with different producers… Snake Green, Juan Urtega, Dario Mollo and just recently with wizard Russ Russell… So I have material worth 3 or 4 records! As imaginary about Bizar Bazar, first record was attached more to the city life style even if I gave it a theatrical feel and look, next record is going to be mystic, shamanic, same character who experiences forests and deserts instead in door places such as theatres, brothels or alcoholocausting parties.
Fabian and Russ Russell in the studio
Can you tell me what it was like working with Russ Russell?
Working with Russ, even for the first time, was like going back home to visit one of your best friends. He’s a very welcoming person; he made the entire band feel at home. Everyone within the band was extremely happy and looking forward to work with him again. He does what he does for passion more than for business. After a massive day of recordings, he didn’t go to bed, to celebrate he stayed up until 4am to share drinks. Next day we were flying home he was going masked to the roller coaster. On the other hand he’s highly professional, relaxed and talented in his job, can you get more than that?
Has the public response to the CIRCUS METAL MANIAC been as you expected or hoped for?
Expectations? Take those out of your life; if you want to give yourself a headache, drink a couple bottles of wine, at least it’s a noble headache. Just do the things you love with passion, devotion and everything will come together. I’m happy the album got reviewed worldwide after such long time it was recorded and been kept in the closet (my bad on that one)… reviews have been great so far! maybe more to come. Then, to make a real fun base and strong followers you have to prove yourself on stage more than spend hrs online.
What is your best song to play live and what is it about the track that makes it great to play?
Not the best but the more fun to play I personally think is “Lost inside the bazaar”. So many up and down, it’s a roller coaster. My vocals are way stronger now and we made some instrumental changes through the song, drums are more dynamic and we added black metal fast guitar picking in two sections and an Arabic guitar solo at the end. I always look into people eyes when we do play that song and say I was on psychedelic drugs when I wrote it… Yeah!
As a lead guitarist myself I absolutely love some of the intense solos in the album, and I’m sure there will be a few of us asking how you created them, what was going through your mind whilst building the music?
As far as “guitar solos”, it wasn’t me. It was Alessandro Gaza aka Joey Tassello who flew from Italy to California to track those crazy solos… I thought about him while I was recording my guitars. He’s a terrific guitar player; he also helped me to put the band together when I first got back to Italy. Current line up is different though. We took two different paths during the first steps of the band so he’s no longer with us. We wish him the best. We are now looking for a lead guitarist.
CIRCUS METAL MANIAC contains some very interesting sequences from what we would see as a traditional fun fair or circus, where were these recorded?
At the legendary Different Fur studios in San Francisco and at Mojo Studios (hail mojo!) in Berkeley.
Do you have any plans on another album, videos, or any demos that may be popping up very soon?
Absolutely, we are about to release an official video for a song we recorded with producer Russ Russell in the UK which is Megadeth’s “Sweating bullets”, a cover yes. Russ is an incredible character, he has all the qualities a wizard would have, and he’s funny as hell and bringer of wisdom; looking forward to work with him again. It was perfect timing to pay tribute to Mr.Mustaine and Co. Then I already written a new album, actually two, I’m practicing the songs with Simone at the moment and starting pre production in a few days. Can’t wait to enter the studio with the band for the real thing, hopefully this time supported by a label!
Do you have any shows/tours planned?
We are talking to get ready to tour actually… Possibly a lot. After releasing the video will start looking for a lead guitarist. So, any management, booking agency or whatever able to sort this out with us, please get in touch with Bizar Bazar. The band must tour! Its rock and roll bro, even if helpful to use internet to promote yourself, the dust and mud from the road tastes much better.
Few heavy metal bands define the genre like America’s ICED EARTH. Fewer still elicit the rabid, off-the-charts fan loyalty that ICED EARTH does. “Plagues Of Babylon”, the band’s eleventh studio album, came out on January 6th via Century Media Records. Contacted by telephone during the recent fall tour as support act for VOLBEAT, Jon Schaffer and Stu Block responded promptly and with sympathy to the questions of Tarja Virmakari(interview made for Truemetal.it).
During the chat, Jon and Stu spoke about Plagues Of Babylon, it’s concept and themes. Asking how the guys would describe the album in 3 words, Stu replied with a “twinkle in his eye”: “Fuckin’ heavy metal! or ‘Epic Fuckin’ Metal!’ or yet ‘Evil Fuckin’ Metal!’ To know more about this and much more, please join the conversation below.

CRYSTAL VIPER is a Female Fronted Heavy Metal act from Poland, founded in 2003 and led by the singer, guitarist and composer Marta Gabriel. After doing 4 full length studio albums, bunch of singles and compilation releases, after touring in most of the European countries, showing up on many festival stages (incl. Bang Your Head, Keep It True, Sabaton Open Air – Rockstad Falun, Metal Magic Festival, Headbangers Open Air or Magic Circle Festival), and mainly because of the classic songwritingand impressive stage presence, Crystal Viper managed to establish their positionas one of the most hard working bands of the genre. Now, one and a half year after premiere of their last full length album “Crimen Excepta”, Crystal Viper strike back with “Possession”, their brand new concept effort, released on December 13th on AFM Records.
Only a couple of days ago, Tarja Virmakari had a pleasure to interview the CRYSTAL VIPER composer, guitarist and vocalist Marta Gabriel, read below what she told about their 5th album “Possession”…
Hi Marta, i’m Tarja. Welcome to Metal Shock Finland! Your new album, Possession, came out on December 13, via AFM Records, what are the feelings right now?
Marta: Hello Tarja! I’m extremely happy, our new album has just been released, and it’s an incredibly great feeling to keep in hand fifth Crystal Viper studio album!
Before we’ll go to the new album, lets talk about these last 10 years, as 2013 is also your 10th Anniversary year. What are the biggest highlights that you’ll consider as cornerstones of your carreer?
Marta: I think we will rather celebrate 10th anniversary of our first album than 10 years of the band – as the truth is at the beginning the band was more a project we had for fun. The real Crystal Viper was born in 2006 when the first line up recorded first album, which was released in 2007. The biggest highlights? I would say release of our first album was the most important one for me, as then everything started, I mean a real band. And the fact we still go on after so many years is a big highlight as well.
What is your source and inspiration which drives you to write music and lyrics?
Marta: It’s something different every single time. Once it’s a book or a movie, the other time my mood and imagination, sometimes stories that I hear. And when I got inspired by something, I start to think if it’s a good idea for the album or for a song, if yes, I start to work on it. But usually ideas for songs come out totally unexpected, for example it happen quite often that I walk down the street and sing and record new songs on my mobile phone.
When and how you personally got involved in music?
Marta: Me and music, it was like call of the wild, I think. I was 6 years old girl when I saw the symphonic orchestra concert in TV, and told my parents I want to be a musician. Then they sent me to a music school, and I totally fell in love with music. I can say music was always very important in life, if not to say music IS my life.
Please introduce us Crystal Viper – band members and their best qualities …
Marta: I’m the composer, guitarist and vocalist in Crystal Viper. Tomek Danczak “Golem” plays drums, Andy plays guitar and we have Michal Badocha on bass. It would be a very long list if I would start to mention all our favourite bands that influenced us, as we all listen to a lot of different music. We can start with classical music, all rock and metal genres, such as hard rock, black and death metal, heavy metal… I think it’s very important not to limit your music interests, because when you are a musician, you learn for all your live, you still discover new music, and you learn new things. The one thing for all Crystal Viper members is the same: we all totally love Metal!
I’ve been listening to Possession quite many times in these past days, and it seems to be a mix of traditional heavy metal, fast and melodic songs, with the strong flavors of darkness and epic riffs. But what else you would like to tell and how you’d describe the album to those who don’t know your music yet?
Marta: I would say it’s a female fronted heavy metal album, with melodic songs and strong metal riffs, with a good story behind the lyrics. Some people say it’s traditional metal, other people say it’s power metal or heavy metal, I also heard we have some doom and thrash metal elements in our music. The bottom line is: we are METAL band and so “Possession” is a metal album.
How does “Possession” differ to your last release “Crimen Excepta” which was released last year?
Marta: I think our previous album “Crimen Excepta” was much darker, it was concept album about inquisition, killing innocent people, witches and so on, so it had this dark and evil atmosphere. New album basically is about possession, at least everyone think so: the story has an unexpected twist, which leaves huge question mark at the end. “Possession” includes elements from all our previous albums: slow and epic songs, fast songs, catchy refrains, dark and evil elements, lot of guitar solos, lot of guitar harmonies, plus we added few new elements such as choirs or acoustic guitars. But it’s very hard to compare these two releases, as “Possesiom” is our fifth studio album, and each release is a little bit different. Every single release represents some influences, some energy and vibe from particular period of time. While composing songs for each of our albums, I was influenced by different bands, by different books or movies. But fear not – “Possesion” is still 100% Crystal Viper.
Please tell me about the concept-theme of Possession…
Marta: The concept told on “Possession” is a bit like a movie, but with no pictures, only music and lyrics, I had the whole concept in my head when I started working on the songs. I can’t tell you what exactly it’s all about, as it would be like telling you about ending of the movie you are going to watch. But I can assure you it has an unexpected twist, and I think it’s really cool story in general, very Metal, with many historical facts being thrown in, and few references to our previous album “Crimen Excepta” here and there!
On this album, there are some special guest appaerences, e.g. Harry Conklin and Sataniac from Desaster, please tell me more about these co-operations.
Marta: We wanted to invite Harry Conklin for a long, long time. He is absolutely amazing singer, we are his big fans, and we actually know each other, as we shared the stage few years ago in Greece, we met several times on various other festivals, and we keep in touch. On the new album he sings few verses as the exorcist. And Sataniac: he has amazing, very clean growling voice, and we are also friends with guys from Desaster. We had this vision to make the song “Julia Is Possessed” a bit more aggressive, so we asked Sataniac to help us out, and thankfully he agreed. We are very happy, it’s always very cool when we can have guests on our albums, it shows this unity between bands. We have this saying that we are Metal Nation, it’s true!
Still talking about the guests, one of the songs features more than 50 fans of yours, who were invited to “scream”… so, please tell me about this “scream” and how did you implement it technically?
Marta: We have really cool relationship with Crystal Viper fans, for example we have this Facebook group where all people can talk with us, ask us questions and so on. If there would be no fans, there would be no Crystal Viper and no other bands at all, no music without fans, right? So we decided to say “thank you” to those who support us, in this very special way. Now they can listen to the album, and say “hey, it’s me screaming there”!
You are also known for a tradition: recording cover songs of your favorite artists. The regular CD version includes the cover version of the RIOT classic “Thundersteel”. Why this choice?
Marta: When you will see all lyrics from the new album – with “Prophet Of The End” beeing the last song – and you know lyrics of “Thundersteel”, you will find out that “Thundersteel” can be taken as the song about something that got revealed in “Prophet Of The End”, or in more direct words – “Thundersteel” actually can be the thing described as “Prophet Of The End”! So actually this song fits the concept told on “Possession”, like it would be written for our album. I remember it was a long, long time ago when we came out with the idea of recording this song for the first time, but we were waiting for the right moment. When we finished pre-production of “Possession”, we knew it’s the best possible moment to record and add “Thundersteel” as the last song.
What can you tell me about the studio sessions?
Marta: In the recording studio everything usually goes smoothly, with no surprises. I mean we face most of the work while working on pre-production, because this is what the final sound of the album depends of. When we enter the studio, we know exactly what we have to do, everyone knows his job. Recording the album is a great thing, you spend whole days on recording your songs, and the feeling when the songs are ready is truly fantastic.
Now a personal question, the album was once again produced by your husband Bart Gabriel. How is it to work with a so close person in your private life, pros and cons?
Marta: There are no cons, and I think that I’m very lucky – I share one of the most important things in my life, which is music, with a person that I love, this is something beautiful. But even if we are a married couple, we are able to work on a very professional way, I mean we are able to draw the line between our private life and work. I can’t imagine someone else to produce our music, it wouldn’t be the same I think. We worked together on “Possession” from the very first stage, from the very first rough ideas, up to what you can be heard on the album, so I guess we can say Bart is integral part of how Crystal Viper sounds. Even if every single Crystal Viper album sounds a bit different, you will always recognize it’s us – of course it’s because all members of the band have own, recognizable style of playing, but also because he is making sure it’s still Crystal Viper. Of course it’s not like that, that he says “you can do this and this, and you can’t do this and that” – he gives us total freedom, and when he thinks something is wrong, we discuss it, and we try to find best possible solution together.
For Halloween you released the first track “Fight Evil With Evil” from this album for free download. How was the feedback and response from your fans?
Marta: It was a couple of weeks before release date of our album, and we wanted to do something nice for our fans, as we knew a lot of people were waiting to hear our new songs. As the Halloween is one of the favourite days in the year for most of the metalheads, we decided to release a free single that day – our fans are very, very important for us, they support us all the time, so this was a way to say “thank you” to them. And it looks like they liked this idea.
Just recently you released the first video from this album “Prophet Of The End”. You have stated that “This is probably the most unusual song I ever wrote, I sometimes think it’s even best song I ever composed.” Marta, this song is really one of my absolute favorites in this album, since the first time i heard it, it is stuck to my mind and i find myself humming it all day long 🙂 so please tell me more about this song and how these tunes and lyrics saw the daylight?
Marta: Thank you very much for such a nice words, I’m really glad you like this song. Yeah, I really think it’s probably the best song I’ve ever written. But composing process was exactly the same as with the other songs: it started to “play” in my head, and I recorded it. But even back then I felt that this song will be important for me, I mean there are a lot of Crystal Viper songs that I really like, but this one has something special, maybe it’s the melody, the vibe, maybe important lyrics with a straight message. I’m very happy that we did a video for this one.
The album covers and the ideas behind them always interest me. Looking at Possession, the possessed girl is evident to the album concept. But what else you want to tell me about its creation?
Marta: The girl on the cover is Julia, main character of the story. You can know her better if you will follow the lyrics, and the whole story. I should also mention that almost every single song that landed on “Possession” is represented on the front cover artwork. When you will listen to the album carefully, and you will focus on lyrics and stories that are printed in the booklet, you will find many cool details. There is also small band’s inside joke there: the mascot on bed is actually Willie, our wolf – you could see him on “The Wolf And The Witch” single artwork, and on artworks of our two last albums, “Legends” and “Crimen Excepta”. We had no idea how to “locate” him on “Possession”, so here we go, he became a mascot!
And now that the album is out, what will happen? will we see you touring in Europe in the near future?
Marta: We hope to play in countries we never visited before, and we hope we will return to places we already know! To make long story short, we are ready to bring Heavy Metal to the world!
Marta, recently you started your own clothing brand “Thunderball Clothing”. I graduated, many years ago, as a fashion designer, so it would be interesting to hear more about this passion of yours…
Marta: I started from making stage clothes for myself and for my band mates. Then more and more people started to ask me for doing something for them, and here we go: I already did clothes for members of bands such as Sabaton, Vader, Wizard, Steel Horse, and of course Crystal Viper, and I launched Thunderball Clothing for good. For me, personally, it’s next way to do something creative and unusual, next possibility of making art.
Marta, You are also a respected session musician: you have joined on stage with such legendary acts as VADER, MANILLA ROAD, TYTAN and JACK STARR’S BURNING STARR, just to mention a few of them. What are the nicest memories of these collaborations? and what is the dream-band with whom you would like to sing/play one day?
Marta: It’s always something great for me to be invited as a guest on someone’s record or live show, and it’s even better, when I have possibility to do something together with musicians that I respect, or who influenced me. But one of the best experiences for me is becoming a live guitarist for Jack Starr’s Burning Starr: we played together at the Keep It True festival, it was a fantastic experience! They are an amazing people, and extremely talented musicians, I learnt a lot from them. Jack is a brilliant guitarist, there aren’t many musicians with such a great feeling, when you look at him while playing, you can see he truly loves it, that his guitar is his whole world. It looks like I became live guitarist for Jack Starr’s Burning Starr for good, as you will see us playing live together in 2014 again, I can’t wait! To answer the second part of your question, I don’t really dream about working with one specific person, as working with other people always gives me a lot of joy, and almost every time I can learn something new.
Talking about the 2014 what are your plans? next album or something else?
Marta: There is always something to do, musically. There are a lot of various ideas that I would like to bring to life this year, but it’s too early to say something more.
The Xmas is just behind us, what was the greatest gift Santa Claus brought to you? 🙂
Marta: I think that this whole christmas fever, presents and so on is not really for me… But I managed to get few days for myself, so it was quite cool!
And now the last quesion Marta. What are your greetings to your fans and to Metal Shock Finland readers?
Marta: I wish you all the best, never stop playing the music, let it be with you all the time!
Thank-you ever so much, Marta, for this interview! hope you have a great New Year’s Eve, and ofc I hope to see Crystal Viper on stage soon!
Marta: Thank you for supporting Crystal Viper! Metal greetings to all the maniacs! Remember about supporting your favourite bands, keep on buying original albums, keep on going to live shows – the future of Metal is in your hands! Horns up!
Self – described “hybrid vocalist,” due to his skill in different vocal styles and ranges, ICED EARTH‘s Stu Block is busy preparing for the imminent release of new album, “Plagues Of Babylon,” (6th January on Century Media Records) along with the Worldwide Plagues Tour. Stu joined ICED EARTH in 2011, replacing vocalist Matt Barlow and went on to release his first album with the band, the highly acclaimed “Dystopia.”
Blackdiamond had a chat with Stu just before Christmas to discuss the new album and all things ICED EARTH. Some excerpts from the interview can be read below and you can listen in full on the audio player:
Discussing new album “Plagues Of Babylon” Stu described his thoughts:
“I’m excited! It’s up to the fans – I can’t wait to see what they have to say about it. We’re happy with it, we’re proud of the album.
The first half is a concept piece about the zombie apocalypse, being sort of placed inside the Something Wicked universe and the second half is stand alone songs, ones that have their own subject matter. It’s all very dark and very heavy, we’re really proud of it.”
“Plagues Of Babylon” will also be released on vinyl, prompting a discussion:
“It’s something that a lot of people are holding onto again, I have a bit of a vinyl collection myself – you get more artwork on that kinda stuff, you can see more detail. You get picture discs, the sound is pretty cool, I think some people are getting back into it.”
On Stu‘s future, when asked if he had other plans as well as his role in ICED EARTH, he said:
“I just see Iced Earth in my future, that’s all.”
