HEAD FIRST present us today the official video for “Sand Castles”, the second single from the debut album of the Finnish funk/metal band around Waltari mastermind Kärtsy Hatakka (Metalville Records – release 27 May).
Here are the comments of the band members about the new song:
Kärtsy “Sand Castles is more direction to a ”normal” Head First song. It’s a story about a guy who is living in his dreams only, and doesn’t see the reality around him. That is a very thin line to lean on, in this demanding life. Some people say, that it’s cool to act like a star and live in pure narsism, but in the long scale it doesn’t bring any further, and you will just find yourself in the middle of the sea of crisis.”
Jaani “SAND CASTLES is the song we put together in the 90s. There are no recordings left so we had to memorize and luckily we were able to find all the parts from our heads.
The riff in Sand Castles once again is a couch jamming product. Something that comes into your head when you are concentrating on TV or something else very important. In the riff, we definitely wanted Sami to play the ride bell/middle and the ghost beats, which is essential in this song and it really gets us going.
Back then the song was slower and maybe a bit heavier, but we “modernized” it to meet the standards of 2020s. :-)”
Jespers “Sand Castles is my own favourites on the album, it has everything. Fast enough, tight riffs ja great melodies. The chorus of the song is very Kärtsy, and only in the good way!”
Once there was Waltari… and HEAD FIRST!!!
There’s no denying the status of Finnish crossover monster Waltari as the first “metal-like” band export from their home country back in the early 1990s.
But only a few can still remember that their singer Kärtsy Hatakka already had another band back then under the name HEAD FIRST… the only real funk metal band from Finland! And now this very band is releasing their debut… after 30 years of waiting!
Kärtsy initially played in two bands at the same time, Waltari and Head First. The latter achieved considerable success in the Helsinki area with their danceable mix of funk, metal and prog rock. In some of the first Waltari songs, the funky influence of Head First was also clearly audible.
“Head First was hip, all the big Helsinki live venues loved the band, and bigger and bigger crowds came,” Kärtsy remembers.
But then Waltari surprisingly got an international record deal in 1991, and the rest is history. And so Head First was put on hold indefinitely. But now, after 30 years, they are back!
Already a few years ago, the band took the first steps towards re-activation by playing some shows in Helsinki and the surrounding area. So the wish to finally release a first album became the declared goal of Head First.
Based on the biggest live killers, the existing song material was adapted to today’s sound expectations. In addition, some brand new songs were created. In addition to the three original members Kärtsy, Jaani Marttila and Sami Timonen, a new bass player, Jesper Anastasiadis, was brought into the band.
Head First means old-school funk metal with a fresh edge of groovy beats and infectious energy!

Dutch avant-garde million sellers THE MONOLITH DEATHCULT are releasing ‘Three-Headed Death Machine‘, a brand new single in celebration of their 20 year anniversary.
THE MONOLITH DEATHCULT comment: “Three-Headed Death Machine” is the ultimate gift to the world to celebrate 20 years of The Monolith Deathcult. Extremely catchy riffs (again), layered with irresistible orchestrations (again) and solos while the tambourine and cowbell fight for priority in this massively produced (again) eargasm. Superior intellectual double-layered lyrics are downgraded in such a genius way that even the most average heavy metal fan is able to pump its fist in the air while shouting “DEATH CULT”!
To commemorate the event, The band made a commemorative t-shirt in the shape of a death metal t-shirt.
Earlier this year, the band released ‘V4 – Vernedering’, a boxset containing V1 – Versvs, V2 – Vergelding and V3 – Vernedering. The infamous triptych is shipped as 3 CD BOX with 36 page booklet, and includes additional bonus tracks.
“Judas in Me” is the first single out of DAWN OF DESTINY‘s 8th Studio Album “Of Silence” and sees Dawn Of Destiny in absolute TOP form. Symphonic Power Metal at its best. Dawn Of Destiny proove once again that their unique mixture of female and male vocals fit 100% with their musical vision and Dawn Of Destiny bring their symphonic power metal even one step further by combining great melodies & harmonies with absolute heavy guitar riffs & really hard hitting music.
The pre-sale of the new album starts today. “Of Silence” will be released as a CD and as strictly limited first edition steel box with handsigned booklet.

FOAD Records is thrilled to announce that Brazil’s legendary crossover thrash force RATOS DE PORÃO has joined the roster for the international release of the new full-length “Necropolítica”. The album is confirmed for release May 20th 2022 in CD format, with vinyl to follow in July.
The first single “Aglomeração” is now streaming HERE.
Eight years after the acclaimed “Século Sinistro”, RATOS DE PORÃO come back with another slab of relentless, raw and politically charged crossover thrash from the depths of the Brazilian underground! Rooted in hardcore, punk and thrash metal in equal measure, the band lay to waste the weak-minded and trend-addled.
With a career spanning over 40 years, RATOS DE PORÃO are true underground legends. They are unconcerned with convention, let alone technicality and a formula. Instead, the band’s no-compromises-allowed approach unfurls songs that are crude, raw and spontaneous – just like the ’80s masters that had little time for limitations and rules.
To keep it extremely unrelenting without being stagnant and too monotonous is a difficult art form, but RATOS DE PORÃO manage to stay away from all this and deliver an album full of metal and punk mayhem while keeping it fresh and dynamic at the same time.
Positioned at the top of the scene for over 25 years with their prog-infused dark melodic metal mastery, worldwide chart-toppers EVERGREY – led by frontman Tom S. Englund – traverse new horizons with their new album, A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament), out May 20, 2022 via Napalm Records.
Today, after unveiling pounding album opener and first single “Save Us”, followed by powerful “Midwinter Calls”, EVERGREY conjure another overwhelming epos along their ongoing adventurous journey. The third single, “Blindfolded”, hits with pounding drums and flickering, synth-laden atmosphere. With its insanely grooving guitar solo topped by Englund’s incredible vocals, the track marks the perfect gateway into captivating soundscapes. The upcoming EVERGREY album makes it apparent: Tom S. Englund keeps outdoing himself. In “Blindfolded”, his singular falsetto choices elevate the whole vocal performance to “outstanding”. Leave what you know behind and get transported by EVERGREY’s enchanting new track.
Just like all songs released from A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) to date, “Blindfolded” is visually highlighted via a cinematic music video, closing the chapters of a three-video story and taking the listener to where it all started.
EVERGREY on “Blindfolded”: “This is the third and last video of our trilogy. It features our acting debut that you shouldn’t take too seriously! It’s also really the first episode of this three-piece story. We hope you enjoy and share it and your thoughts about it!”
A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament), the follow-up to the unit’s highly successful 2021 full-length, Escape of the Phoenix (which landed at numerous chart positions worldwide), reveals a 10 track mélange of which every note, every riff and every word seeps pure poetry – creating a ceaseless intensity that mesmerizes from the very first second.
The new album was recorded at Top Floor Studios Gothenburg, engineered by Jakob Herrman and produced by Tom S. Englund and Jonas Ekdahl, with mixing and mastering by Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios (Volbeat, Destruction, Epica and many more), whereas the hauntingly beautiful album artwork was conjured by Giannis Nakos at Remedy Art Design. Nakos is known for creating artworks for acts like Oceans Of Slumber, Amaranthe, The Agonist and The Crown as well as merchandise for Morbid Angel, Suffocation or Cryptopsy – just to name a few.

EVERGREY on the new album: “Here it is! A new album! Yet again! This is what we love about music, it never ends! Our mission is to write music so here you are! 10 new songs! 10 new EVERGREY songs that we hope you will have by your side as your life continues to shift and grow. 10 songs that we wish will be part of the soundtrack when you’re creating new memories and new possibilities in your life. 10 songs that we feel privileged to have you listen to. 10 songs that have risen through the ashes of two years where our creativity has had more time than ever to flourish.
10 songs we really hope you will enjoy as much as we did writing them. As usual we have given it our best and we can’t wait to hear what you have to say! A new year, a new album, a new record label = new possibilities. All this can only be positive, right? Enjoy! Tom, Jonas, Rikard, Johan & Henrik”

A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) impresses with flawless, meticulous production that deftly depicts both heartfelt honesty and scorching metallic intensity, while its instrumental force of furious, technically driven riffs, skyrocketing solos and dramatic synths merges with the expert, brooding vocal performance of Englund. He skillfully balances harsh and heavy tones with an inarguably soulful approach, all topped by melancholic, thought-provoking lyricism that digs deeper with every spin, leaving a long-lasting impact. Songs like “Save Us” and “The Great Unwashed” draw the listener in with grooving instrumentation, while emotive “Wildfires” turns the volume down as a goosebump-worthy ballad that hurts and heals all at once. “Call Out The Dark” begins atmospherically with accented keys, suddenly evolving into an intense opus of symphonic and power metal attributes in the blink of an eye, whereas the record’s longest track, “The Orphean Testament”, impresses by revealing its heaviest facet. A sensitive introduction lures the listener into “Heartless”, and offers one of the album’s most engaging verses, followed by a hauntingly beautiful chorus and variety in pace to create a magnificent listening experience.
A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) tracklisting: 1. Save Us 2. Midwinter Calls 3. Ominous 4. Call Out the Dark 5. The Orphean Testament 6. Reawakening 7. The Great Unwashed 8. Heartless 9. Blindfolded 10.Wildfires
A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) is a striking testament to the fact that while the Swedish five-piece doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone at this phase, they still impressively showcase that, after over 25 years of existence, their creativity sees no bounds – dropping yet another sensation within their impressive catalog!
Fans can look forward to seeing EVERGREY live, as in 2022, the powerhouse will go on an extensive tour through Europe!
