Dan Lorenzo says about ‘The Groove Line’: “A few months ago, John Kelly called me or maybe he actually texted me and said we should cover groove line by heat wave. Johnny and I listen to a lot of music that isn’t heavy metal or hard rock and I thought it was an interesting choice for sure. Who else could sing this and really crush it except for Mark Sunshine from Unida. You might notice a little surprise after the third chorus. There’s an homage to my wife’s favorite band Steely Dan if you listen carefully. Hopefully you’ll want to listen to patriarch in black’s cover of groove line repeatedly.”

Another Black Sabbath cover? Hasn’t that been done enough? How about a deep track that few groups would be bold enough to even attempt? Almost like a Rock Opera? “Supertzar” combines heavy as hell guitars and drums with Angelic female vocals from Sarah Sovak. Type O Negative’s Johnny Kelly pounding the drums, Hades Dan Lorenzo on guitar and former Pale Horse Named Death member Eric J. Morgan on keys. Bill Ward listened and told Johnny he approved!
Dan Lorenzo says about the song: “When I wrote the song “Where You Think You’re Going” off the “Home” album with DMC, Johnny Kelly and I were talking about other hard rock songs that utilized female vocals. Johnny mentioned “Supertzar”. I hadn’t listened to that track in years and when I reexamined it I fell in love with it. Sarah Sovak and Eric J. Morgan really helped us bring the songs to life.”
PATRIARCHS IN BLACK release new single and official video ‘Left Behind’.
Singer Daniel Soren says about “Left Behind”: The song lyrics are based on a reflection of what may be viewed as the tragedy of certain real life experiences for many people, some of the hardships of the human condition, blended with the metaphoric concepts of loss, acceptance and making the most of the time that we have while we are alive. The song tells a tragic story of loss, at both the human level and at the mystical cosmic level… but, as the universe is a balance of both entropy and growth and evolution — so, too, is the human life …and in the end, what matters most is the legacy that one will leave behind — what did you do with your life while you were alive? There is only a finite amount of time in life to make a legacy, so the song reminds us to not waste the time that we have while we are still alive.

Lots going on with PATRIARCHS IN BLACK this month. Most importantly we have a brand new ORIGINAL single and video out today. Left Behind is a stand alone single-never before available featuring myself, Johnny Kelly on drums and guest vocalist Daniel Soren. Daniel was the singer for Sixty Watt Shaman and I had been trying to contact him for years.
On top of all the above, I’ve written and recorded the music to 13 NEW songs. Johnny has finished drums for half of them. Now we just need to wait for our vocalists to do their thing and hopefully we can release another brand new original album by the end of this year.

Following the release of their critically acclaimed studio album ‘Home’ last August, PATRIARCHS IN BLACK present their brand new cover version of the Led Zeppelin classic ‘The Ocean’.
With this, the band not only pays homage to one of their greatest idols, but also celebrates the birthdays of both PIB guitarist Dan Lorenzo and Jimmy Page.
In 2023, PATRIARCHS IN BLACK even received a Grammy nomination for their cover of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Friends.’

Patriarchs In Black have a lot going on. I’ve written/recorded the music to nine NEW songs since the release of our 4th album “Home”. January 9th we have The Ocean (Led Zep) cover coming out digitally. I’m on guitar, Johnny Kelly on drums as always. Guest vox by Mark Sunshine and guest bass by Eric J. Morgan. Then Feb 5th we release a new single called Left Behind with guest vocalist Daniel Soren. I’ve seriously been trying to get a hold of Mr. Soren for years since I heard Sixty Watt Shaman’s debut track ‘Fear Death By Water’.

Dan continues: Then Feb 13th all the covers we have recorded will be on vinyl, thanks to No Life ‘Til Metal Records. “Completely Covered In Black” includes our never before released cover of Kiss Strange Ways (Rob Dukes Exodus on vox), Hotter Than Hell plus Supertzar by Black Sabbath which might be my favorite cover we’ve done.
