EGRES Release New Single And Music Video ‘Retrieval’

Helsinki-based progressive metal ambassador EGRES has released the highly anticipated single and a music video to it. The five-minute long “Retrieval” explores the impact of memories and remembering on the human perception of the happiness of life lived. It also touches on the concepts of experiencing and remembering selves. The song’s themes and lyrics were visioned by the cinematic composition, where the unconventional structures with semitone progressions grab the listener from the very first beats. This dark, intense piece shows the direction EGRES is heading in.

“It was wonderful to write playful, a little cryptic verses. The lyrics reflect my personal interest towards psychology and draw inspiration from the work of the late Daniel Kahnemann” – Hanna Lahtinen

“Upon hearing the first demo I was horrified by the robotic piano. However, as time went by and the song evolved, I started to feel exalted. Retrieval tells a story which challenges and amazes.” – Tristan Lumme

“The main motifs are this non-stop throbbing rhythm and the sounds of the piano. The guitar solo and the fact that the vocal melody is largely my handiwork are rather exceptional. Retrieval serves as the band’s current trendsetter” – Pekka Virtanen

As the song reached its final form, EGRES saw that the time had come for the band’s first music video. The video illustrates the song’s themes with a story that takes place in different times and places. The idea was originally to make the video on their own, but as time went on the project escalated as more and more people joined the project. The video got a director, cinematographers, a production manager, a cast of actors and a production company Woodpecker, where the band’s bassist Pekka Virtanen also works. The fine-tuning of the screenplay took time and the preparations required a lot of research and acquiring props. The intensive post-production from editing to colour grading and effects creation is a chapter in itself. In the end, Retrieval and its video were finished thanks to a lot of wonderful, talented, dedicated people.

“Making the video was challenging and physical despite being also fun. In the end I was repeating to myself in what have we done?!”  – Tristan Lumme

“Retrieval” is found on all major streaming platforms.

Today, Friday, December 6, 2024, blackened death metal masters THULCANDRA release their first-ever live album, “Live Demise”, that celebrates the first chapter and early days of the band!

“Live Demise” was recorded live in 2011 at a hometown show in Munich, Germany, and features true gems that the band hasn’t performed in more than a decade, all with the original line-up consisting of Sebastian Ludwig, Tobias Ludwig, Matthias Landes (Dark Fortress, Noneuclid) and Steffen Kummerer (Obscura, Death, Cynic).

Following a video clip for the previously-released live version of “Fallen Angel’s Dominion”, today, THULCANDRA are premiering “Night Eternal (Live)”!

Band mastermind, Steffen Kummerer, comments:

“With “Night Eternal” we present you the opening track of our debut album “Fallen Angel’s Dominion” (2010), taken off our first ever live release “Live Demise”. Tracked at a home town show in Munich, Germany a decade ago, we celebrate the early days of the band in a raw and energetic setting, showcasing each member on fire. See you all on our upcoming European run with Sacramentum at a venue near you!”

THULCANDRA’s rise to power ignited when the four-piece unleashed their debut album, “Fallen Angel’s Dominion”, upon metaldom in 2010. Followed by their 2011 masterpiece, “Under a Frozen Sun”, “Live Demise” contains brutal-as-hell classics from both records, like “Black Flags Of Hate”, “In Blood And Fire” and “The Spirit Of The Night”, aptly capturing the spirit and high-voltage energy of both the crowd and band. Ragers such as “Night Eternal” and “Fallen Angel’s Dominion” perfectly showcase the band’s raw and intense performances in their early days, and prove how THULCANDRA has quickly stepped up as one of the leading bands of their genre!

Due to the pandemic, which was subsequently followed by their latest, much-acclaimed studio album “Hail The Abyss” (released in May 2023 via Napalm Records HERE), “Live Demise” could not be released alongside THULCANDRA‘s 20th anniversary as originally planned. Now, with mixing and mastering by Dan Swanö (Katatonia, Edge Of Sanity, Dissection) and cover artwork designed by Herbert Lochner, this very special release will become available in only strictly limited editions exclusively via Napalm Records and at THULCANDRA‘s upcoming live shows – including their European co-headlining run with legendary Swedish black and death metal band Sacramentum with support from Nephylim. So, you’re into some hard drums, heavy bass, and fast riffs? Then this one’s for you!

It is a supreme little piece of music served as an energetic, full-frontal assault.
With Bara Gör Det, KNOGJÄRN returns to their more familiar soundscape, where metalcore and hard rock blend seamlessly through delightful melodic breakdowns and aggressive vocals.

Listen to the single here: https://ffm.to/baragordet

As we enter the season of pent-up aggression and high duty, Knogjärn has released a song that urges you to let go and live your own life. Bara Gör Det is an aggressive and motivational song that encourages people to follow their dreams and seize new opportunities.

Knogjärn:
“For everyone who has ever felt like they want to be a certain way or thought about something they really want to do but never dared because they were afraid of what others might think—this song is for you. Act now; it’ll be too late later!”

Trust yourself. Make your own choices. Be for yourself.
And who knows? Maybe you’ll end up with millions of streams too!

Trigger warning: Do not listen to this while Christmas shopping

ABOUT KNOGJÄRN
Knogjärn’s take on melodic hard rock combined with heavier elements from hardcore and metal makes them into the perfect music to shake of yesterday and move into the future with.

Pumping up the listener and turning everyone into a true Swedish Hard Rock fan.

Since the start in 2015, Knogjärn has delivered nothing but sonic raging anger with an unapologetic, IN-YOUR-FACE attitude. The foursome drops super-charged records, but they hit even harder when on stage: “We want you to like our live performance even if you don´t like our music”, the band states.
Their records are the testimony that Knogjärn always give 100%!

Hard’n’heavy riffs with raging vocals and explicit lyrics speak beyond their vernacular, beloved by their ever-growing crowd of fans.

SCHÄDLICH & SÖHNE Postpone Release of New Album “Zweckpessimismus”

Due to changes at the label and ongoing production delays, the release of the new album by SCHÄDLICH & SÖHNE – feat. Guido Meyer de Voltaire (Aardvarks, Misticia, ex-Bethlehem) and Yantit (Eisregen, Ewigheim, Goatfuneral) – has to be postponed to March 21, 2025. Pre-orders already made remain valid!

The duo posted on their socials:

“Due to changes at the label and ongoing problems with the production of the recordings (the 2 CD media book is still not ready/hasn’t arrived) we/Massacre Records are forced to postpone the release of “ZECKPESSIMISMUS” to March 2025!

As of today, it would not have been possible to prepare and ship everything so that you would have your hands on the album in time on December 6th, 2024! It’s bitter but this decision was unavoidable because a proper release also requires a certain amount of lead time.

We now hope (still) for your understanding/many fingers crossed, and wish you all the best!
Schädlich&Söhne”

“Zweckpessimismus” is to released as a 2-CD Mediabook, Ltd. Vinyl LP (2 colors: black / white), Ltd. Box Set and Digital formats, on March 21, 2025 via Massacre Records. The Box Set will include the 2-CD Mediabook, a Patch, Flag and an Autograph Card. You can still pre-order your album copy at https://lnk.to/zweckpessimismus

SCHÄDLICH & SÖHNE‘s music is not made for everyone, and certainly no light entertainment. This is for listeners who have a healthy sense of dark humor and find pleasure in tragedy.

It is an art to aptly describe one’s own lyrical outpourings without quickly sounding pathetic or even

ridiculous. There is certainly a similarity to Ewigheim here, but SCHÄDLICH & SÖHNE are much more direct and at the same time much more abstract. Or to put it a little more vaguely: total cynical negativity + the whole bitter truth = ZWECKPESSIMISMUS [Eng.: calculated pessimism (for people who can endure it)].

For the musical realization of their new album  “Zweckpessimismus”, Yantit and Guido were joined by Markus Stock both on bass and as a producer. He was also responsible for the album mix and master. Kevin Olasz contributed some additional lead and solo guitars to selected songs on the album.

CD Mediabook Track Listing:

CD 1

  1. Schädlich & Söhne
  2. Pathos, mein Freund?
  3. Mit den Augen eines Toten
  4. Katze Fröhlich
  5. Tanz!
  6. 1000 Raben
  7. Ein Leben
  8. St. Nimmerlein
  9. Vor uns der Tod
  10. El mundo se está hundiendo

CD 2

  3. Mit den Augen eines Toten RMX

SCHÄDLICH & SÖHNE Album Line-Up:

Yantit – All Instruments
Markus Stock – Bass

Kevin Olasz:
