ENSIFERUM Unveil ‘The Howl’ Video

Finnish folk metal icons ENSIFERUM today unveil their official new video for “The Howl.” The track is taken from the band’s Winter Storm full-length, out now on Metal Blade Records.

Much of the new material for Winter Storm emerged during the COVID lockdown, when ENSIFERUM‘s founding guitarist Markus Toivonen set himself the challenge of finding new ways to make music – eventually composing every song except the rousing and anthemic “Fatherland,” written by bassist Sami Hinkka. The addition of singer/organist Pekka Montin’s crystal-clear melodic high notes provided a tremendous boost on 2020’s Thalassic. But on Winter Storm – a fantasy concept narrative penned by Hinkka – Montin’s super-strong voice finds its optimal place in ENSIFERUM‘s sound. Bringing to life such grandiose, heroic material, the singer emerges as one of the greatest vocal discoveries of the decade.

“The Howl” follows the band’s “Fatherland” video which told of a remote tribe who had been fighting against the Winter Storm Vigilantes.

“In ‘The Howl,’” Hinkka elaborates, “we leap ahead many years from the battle of ‘Fatherland.’ The young boy grew up and became a shaman. His people are losing the war and as his last deed he calls the Old Spirits one last time. He sacrifices his mortal form and becomes a spirit wolf and starts his journey to find The One to avenge for his people’s fate. This song is very ENSIFERUM-ish to the core: catchy melodies, powerful harsh vocals and singalong chorus. We’ve already played it on a few gigs; it’s obviously a great live song!“

Watch ENSIFERUM‘s previously released videos for “Winter Storm Vigilantes” HERE, “Long Cold Winter Of Sorrow And Strife” HERE, and “Fatherland” HERE.

ENSIFERUM‘s Winter Storm was produced by Janne Joutsenniemi, mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren, and includes guest appearances by Lassi Logrén on Nyckelharpa and violin and Mikko Mustonen on orchestration as well as Eleine’s Madeleine Liljestam who provides all vocals on “Scars In My Heart.”

LORD OF THE LOST Vocalist CHRIS HARMS Releases Third Single + Official Video ‘She Called Me Diaval’

After the most successful year of the band’s history, CHRIS HARMS kicks off 2025 by making a long-cherished dream come true, releasing his first solo album 1980, set for release on January 31 via Napalm Records. Today, Harms reveals “She Called Me Diaval”, a brand-new song cut from his upcoming debut. In this genre-fluid offering, the LORD OF THE LOST vocalist and German ESC finalist emphasizes his boundary-defying artistic vision. The track delivers an 80s synth-pop revival enriched with electronic influences, new wave, and goth elements—all elevated by Harms’ unmistakable signature vocals.

Featuring eleven tracks in total, 1980 offers a distinctive sound that remains unexplored in Harms’ main band. Once again, it highlights his versatility as a musical chameleon and free spirit—qualities that both fans and critics respect and admire.

CHRIS HARMS about the new single “She Called Me Diaval”:
“Probably, the most frequently asked question about the song will be ‘Who or what is Diaval?’ – Well, either the song is about a dream I can’t describe in detail, me musically processing a part of my life – because it’s my only way of dealing with things, or I just like to tell mysterious, darkly colorful stories. At some point, I’ll give it away…”

With LORD OF THE LOST, Chris Harms has recently achieved defining milestones in the band’s history, including participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, touring with Iron Maiden, and securing a #1 and two #2 spots on the Official German Album Charts. But for Harms, taking a break is out of the question. The concept of a solo album has been brewing in his mind for years, and it has now come to fruition with 1980, set for release this January.

CHRIS HARMS describes 1980:
“If I were forced to categorize this album and label it, it would probably say ‘a strange but successful mix of Depeche Mode, Modern Talking and Sandra with Chris Harms’ voice, but with less perm and mullet’”.

Make sure to get your copy of 1980 NOW | First Formats Sold Out Already

Songs such as the first single “I Love You” and “Lunamor” exude a pleasant lightness, while “Past Pain” and “May This Be Your Last Battlefield” strike a reflective note. Two selected duets round off the album: Harms welcomes guest singer Sven Friedrich (Solar Fake) on “Madonna Of The Night”, while Ronan Harris (VNV Nation) can be heard on “The Grey Machines”.

1980 deliberately avoids attempting to reinvent the wheel, but is to be understood as a musical journey through time. There is no deliberate calculation or riding the wave of any trends on the album, but simply a passion, desire and love for music, with which CHRIS HARMS has marked a remarkable new pinnacle in his discography as a musician.

1980 tracklist:
1. I Love You
2. She Called Me Diaval
3. Somewhere Between Heaven And Armageddon
4. Missed Call
5. Madonna Of The Night (feat. Sven Friedrich)
6. Lunamor
7. Parallax
8. Past Pain
9. The Grey Machines (feat. Ronan Harris)
10. Vagueness Of Faith
11. May This Be Your Last Battlefield

The band has once again proven they are a powerhouse of live performance! Liesbeth is emerging as one of the most exciting talents in symphonic metal, captivating audiences with every note. She is brilliantly backed by the sensational George van Olffen on keyboards, the electrifying riffs of Martijn de Zeeuw on guitar, the thunderous grooves of Tim Hoogervorst on bass, and the unstoppable energy of Eva Levina on drums. Together, they create an unforgettable live experience!

“Pain” is a track taken from the band’s album “Underneath” out via Wormholedeath.

Stream “Underneath” here: orcd.co/underneath

Ylisia’s music is a clever blend of powerful vocals, catchy melodies, and driving rhythms, drawing inspiration from legendary acts like The Gathering, Evanescence, Within Temptation, and Kate Bush. Since their formation in 2021, the band has captivated audiences with their dynamic live shows, performing at renowned festivals like FemME, Bevrijdingfestival Wageningen, and Nieuwveen Live.

“Underneath” is more than just a symphonic metal album—it’s a deeply personal expression of emotion. Built around the compositions of keyboardist George van Olffen, the record captures two decades of musical ideas, coming to life with the current lineup formed in 2021.
Tracks like “September,” “Pain,” and “Underneath” showcase different sides of the band: from heavy rock to catchy choruses and atmospheric bridges. Meanwhile, songs like “Free,” written by vocalist Liesbeth Cordia after the tragic loss of her brother, bring raw emotion to the forefront of the album.
“Underneath” was meticulously mixed and mastered by Daan Janzing, ensuring a sound that strikes the perfect balance between heaviness and melody. The stunning artwork of Gogo Malone completes the package.

Poland’s pioneering and leading Progressive Rock band RIVERSIDE have recently announced their definitive live album release, “Live ID.”. Recorded on June 1st, 2024 at COS Torwar in Warsaw, “Live ID.” culminates the “ID.Entity” album cycle with a massive live rendition of 12 songs across over 110 minutes playing time and will be released worldwide via InsideOutMusic on January 24th, 2025.

RIVERSIDE’s vocalist/bass-player and main songwriter Mariusz Duda comments about the upcoming live release as follows:

“I would argue that RIVERSIDE always come across better in concerts than on studio albums. In fact, it’s only during live performances that our songs gain their full potential. What’s more, some song arrangements are much better in live versions than in studio recordings. There are a lot of nuances, quirks, and, above all, explanations of what RIVERSIDE’s music is all about. That’s why “Live ID.” is not just an ordinary live album. It’s an album that reveals the band’s true identity.“

“Live ID.” not only contains thrilling performances of songs off RIVERSIDE’s latest and much acclaimed 2023 studio album “ID.Entity”, but also re-visits catalogue favourites in a compelling way, once more stressing the band’s unique stance and relevance within the current progressive music scene.

THE BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA’s 2000 Album “Vavoom!” Feat. ‘Gettin’ In The Mood’ Re-Issue Drops in March on Limited 180g Colored Vinyl

Posted by tarjavirmakari on January 14, 2025
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: THE BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA. Leave a comment

THE BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA is a swing band formed in 1992 by Stray Cats frontman Brian Setzer. Their debut self titled album was released in 1994, and was followed up in 1996 with Guitar Slinger. In 1998, for their breakout album The Dirty Boogie, the group covered Louis Prima’s “Jump, Jive An’ Wail”, which originally appeared on Prima’s 1957 album The Wildest! and found themselves with a runaway hit! The album’s success led to a massive tour which ran from fall of 1998 through the summer of 1999, including a performance at the infamous Woodstock 1999. The Dirty Boogie’s success was capped off with a Grammy win for Brian’s version of “Sleepwalk” for Best Pop Instrumental in 1999. That would just be the first Grammy that Brian would bring home with the Orchestra.

With the success of the recent Guitar Slinger and The Dirty Boogie reissues from the Brian Setzer Orchestra we are now excited to announce for the first time on vinyl since 2000, Vavoom!. Remastered on 180g vinyl in two amazing Limited-Edition Colors. There are only 300 of The Americano and 700 of the Caravan Yellow. Vavoom! is the fourth release from the Brian Setzer Orchestra featuring “Pennsylvania 6-5000” and “Getting’ In the Mood”. Setzer uses his Rock-a-Billy style in league with some of the best standards from the big band era to produce some very cool finger snapping, get-up-and-dance
tunes.

Watch “Getting’ In the Mood” here:

Vavoom! continues Setzer’s interpretation of the swing era, and he has made classic songs of a bygone era accessible again to a new audience, with classics like “Mack The Knife”, and “Caravan” which won him a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 2001 for his arrangement.
