With a sound that defies generic labels and a vision that stretches the limits of creativity, MÚR are the latest descendants from Iceland’s volcanic underground. The emerging quintet are forging a new era of dark, atmospheric and boundary shattering metal. With progressive sensibilities that harken to the Devin Townsend Project and mid-era Opeth, a talent to cohesively juxtapose atmospheric textures with polished technicality a la Meshuggah and Gojira, and a focus on jazz study among the fresh-faced instrumentalists, Múr is already proving itself to be a reckoning force.

Today, Múr is pleased to announce that they have joined forces with Century Media Records for the release of their debut self-titled full-length! In celebration, the band is now sharing the mind-bending new single, “Frelsari,” along with a video. The clip was animated by Múr’s Kári Haraldsson (vocals, keytar, synthesizers) during his teenage years and can be found at THIS LOCATION.

The band comments: “’Frelsari’ is one of our more powerful, but also more conventionally structured songs, exploring themes of blind faith, giving up control, and the illusions of liberation. The music video is an animation our frontman made in his teens, which seems to harmonize well with the themes of this song, written years later.”

Múr’s trajectory really gained momentum a year after their formation when their talent was recognized in the spring of 2022 as they conquered the Icelandic Wacken Metal Battle, propelling them to an impressive fourth place in the international finale at Wacken Open Air in Germany.

The band recently created a buzz following the release of their folk horror infused video for “Heimsslit,” which can be found HERE.

“’Heimsslit’ is an Icelandic word for the apocalypse, but the literal translation is ‘world’s tearing,’ inspiring a vision of the world coming apart at the seams,” says the band. “The lyrical themes have more to do with an acceptance of something vital falling apart within one’s own mind rather than being about the physical world ending. The song is accompanied by our first music video, a massive cross-discipline collaboration between local artists.”

The album is due digitally on November 22, 2024 while CD and vinyl will be available January 10, 2025. Pre-orders are now live HERE.

With a sound that defies generic labels and a vision that stretches the limits of creativity, Múr are the latest descendents from Iceland’s volcanic underground. The emerging quintet are forging a new era of dark, atmospheric and boundary shattering metal. With progressive sensibilities that harken to the Devin Townsend Project and mid-era Opeth, a talent to cohesively juxtapose atmospheric textures with polished technicality a la Neurosis and Gojira, and a focus on jazz study among the fresh-faced instrumentalists, Múr is already proving itself to be a reckoning force.

Exhibiting a musicianship that collectively exhibits impressive virtuosity, it’s unsurprising that frontman Kári Haraldsson (Vocals, Keytar, Synthesizers), guitarists Hilmir Árnason and Jón Ísak Ragnarsson, bassist Ívar Klausen and drummer Árni Jökull Guðbjartsson each already have established impressive resumes as their interest in music all started in their early childhoods. Haraldsson is an unprecedented force, not only transforming the typically bright and cheerful keytar into an ominous weapon of sound, he has been a musician since the early age of five when he started taking drumming lessons with his grandfather. His interest in music continued to flourish in his teens, where he studied classical and jazz piano and ultimately started to try his hand in composition. His efforts paid off as he already has written scores for two projects – the Icelandic feature film ‘Harmur’ (‘Come to Harm,’ 2021) and the Icelandic TV series, ‘Gestir’ (2024). His cinematic sensibilities are now evident in the gradoise soundscapes that he creates for Múr.

Haraldsson then released his first solo project, Bláþræðir, in 2020, which was part of a larger collaborative project in which he and director Hrafnkell Tumi Georgsson made an animated short film with an original score. This partnership soon came to produce Múr’s haunting first music video for the song “Heimsslit.” Ever since Múr came into existence, it has been his main outlet for songwriting and is his purest creative expression.

Guitarists Hilmir Árnason and Jón Ísak Ragnarsson both had a similar trajectory, each learning classical guitar at a young age, but eventually learning the electric guitar as teens under the tutelage of Skálmöld’s Þráinn Árni Baldvinsson, who would eventually also play a role in Múr’s inception. Eventually, they each studied jazz, pursuing a formal education of the subject at Icelandic music schools Tónlistarskóli FÍH and Menntaskóli í Tónlist, respectively.

Also starting his musical training at age six, Árni Jökull Guðbjartsson didn’t start to hone his craft on drums until he was 13 and has performed in other local Icelandic bands (Krownest, Blóðmör) before joining Múr. His experience in punk and hardcore bands have been integral to his stage presence, lending to his immense energy and live ferocity.

Ívar Klausen also discovered his craft later in life, starting as a guitarist before conquering the bass. As a guitarist, he was actively involved in the local pop scene, contributing his talents both in studio and on stage for various artists. He also studied jazz guitar at the Icelandic music school Menntaskóli í Tónlist and has released several other records with his band Dópamín, where he sings and shreds the guitar as the frontman.

The commonalities between the musicians of Múr made the formation of this project almost seem inevitable, with ties between the members going back to their school years. “It started when Hilmir and I met in our first year of high school and started jamming in my mom’s garage, playing covers of our favorite rock and metal songs,” explains Haraldsson of the band’s inception. “Hilmir and Jón Ísak had the same guitar teacher at the time, Þráinn Árni Baldvinsson, but one day he introduced them to each other and strongly encouraged them to join forces with me in that very same garage the next weekend and start playing together. We became good friends over the next couple of years, meeting most weekends to hang out and play all sorts of different covers and some very early original material as well, but back then I was the drummer, so we were just a guitars and drums three-piece.

“A few years later we met the rest of the guys in the Icelandic music school, Menntaskóli í Tónlist, and things started to shape into what they are today when I stepped away from the drums to give full focus to the vocals, synthesizers (keytar) and songwriting. Singing was a completely new thing for me, only done originally so that the earliest songs I wrote for what would become Múr could include some vocal melodies. Ívar joined us on bass after I showed him some early Múr demos at school, but once this started looking like a full band and we had some of our first songs, we really needed a drummer.

“Sigurður Jakobsson (of Úlfúð, ex-Mannveira) joined us right around the start of the pandemic and we spent those isolated months really honing our inner dynamic as a band and were really tight by the time we could finally play our first gig when things finally started opening up again. Sigurður played the drums on the recordings for our debut album and stayed with us until we placed fourth at Wacken Metal Battle in Germany, but then had to part ways with us for personal and practical reasons, all on good terms. Árni, a good friend whom we had met through music school and the local scene, joined us right after, solidifying the lineup into what it is today.”

Múr’s trajectory really gained momentum a year after their formation when their talent was recognized in the spring of 2022 as they conquered the Icelandic Wacken Metal Battle, propelling them to an impressive fourth place in the international finale at Wacken Open Air in Germany.

Describing their music as “a wall of sound and emotion,” Múr is quick to point out that their sound is up for interpretation. “I’m not sure whether it’s our place to fully define it,” cautions Haraldsson “as people seem to take vastly different things away from experiencing it, depending on who they are and what they like in music.” While their complex passages will undoubtedly elicit different perspectives as it borrows from many genres and elements, the emotional component to their music is more direct, with lyrics that center on the human experience. “Most of the lyrics revolve around facing yourself, breaking the shackles of inner turmoil and finding strength in letting go,” he adds.

As for what comprises their multifaceted sound, Haraldsson explains, “We draw inspiration from a lot of different sources, both when it comes to the songwriting and when designing the more overarching soundscapes and textures. Amongst other things we are inspired by film scores, forces of nature, and various different forms of electronic music.”

Making their debut with their self-titled full-length, which will be released via Century Media Records on November 22, 2024, the newcomers already have a buzz around them as they have been winning over crowds on the festival circuit since conquering Soulcrusher Festival in 2023. Through their unique blend of atmospheric textures, evocative songwriting, and raw emotional intensity, Múr has garnered critical acclaim both within their homeland and beyond, solidifying their position as one of the country’s most promising and exciting musical exports.

TURMION KÄTILÖT Celebrate New Album “Reset” Release with Video for ‘Sinä 2.0’

Finnish industrial metal titans TURMION KÄTILÖT have released their brand new album RESET via Nuclear Blast Records. With the release of their new album RESET TURMION KÄTILÖT‘s focus track ‘Sinä 2.0‘ takes center stage. The single, both sinister and euphoric demonstrates perfectly what the band have to offer. ‘Sinä 2.0‘ is made by Janne Tolsa (composition) and Saku (lyrics) with a feature of Petja’s daughter, Netta. The band have also announced an extensive European tour for January 2025, where they will be taking their industrial party metal to the masses.

Composer Janne Tolsa comments about ‘Sinä 2.0‘: “The song came together in a traditional way of browsing through a library of a million synth sounds. The music in the verses is done with a bit of a rap vibe, while the chorus builds up with a touch of dance music. Petja made great vocal arrangements for the A-parts in the style of evergreen schlager hits, which contrast nicely with Petja’s daughter Netta’s wonderfully delicate singing.”

MC Raaka Pee comments about Reset: “I would say that Reset is like a bastard son or daughter of previous records – with tasty new spices added to the whole thing. It has everything you could ever want from us and more. One of the special twist of this album is the vocal parts: the fierce screams are counterbalanced by a huge melodiousness – often at the same time.”

EPICA Unveil Haunting Music Video for New Single ‘The Ghost In Me (Dance Macabre)’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on October 27, 2024
Posted in: News. Tagged: Epica. Leave a comment

Dare to dance with the dead! Dutch symphonic metal titans EPICA have unleashed their eeriest creation yet, the spine-chilling music video for ‘The Ghost in Me (Danse Macabre),’ a haunting track that lures listeners into a world where shadows dance and the afterlife whispers. This song is a unique collaboration with Europe’s second-most visited theme park, Netherlands’s magical De Efteling, and their much-anticipated new attraction, Danse Macabre.

Drenched in ghostly imagery, the video mirrors the unsettling thrill of De Efteling’s new ride, which opens its gates on October 31st, right in time for this Halloween season. Ever since their childhood, every member of EPICA has loved this theme park that welcomes over 5 million visitors per year. Therefore, this collaboration was a true match made in the otherworld.

Submerge yourself now in the music video which was filmed right inside and in front of the new attraction – and as if this wasn’t already exciting enough, the band even received their very own “Epica gravestone” that you can spot, if you look closely:

EPICA’s keyboard player, Coen Janssen, comments:
“Every kid in the Netherlands knows how magical ‘de Efteling’ is, and working this closely with the most beautiful theme park in the world surely is a dream come true! As a young boy, I immediately got captivated by the “Danse Macabre” by Saint-Saëns as a soundtrack for their haunted house “Spookslot”. So when ‘de Efteling’ announced their new plans for the ghostly attraction “Danse Macabre” all pieces of the puzzle fell into place immediately: Why not combine our symphonic side with the ’scary’ side of metal and do our version of this epic classical piece?!? We are so happy that ‘de Efteling’ trusted our vision and gave their full support, providing us with the new ride’s storyline, so we could write lyrics fitting the fantastic narrative and even adding a new chapter!”

‘The Ghost In Me (Danse Macabre)’ lures fans into a darkly enchanting dance with the dead in this YouTube video and will also appear on all streaming platforms soon… when more of Epica’s next chapter will be unveiled.

The song has already made its live debut at the band’s monumental ‘Symphonic Synergy’ shows in Amsterdam this September, and fans in Latin America will have the chance to be the next to hear it live at two shows that EPICA will perform exclusively with a full orchestra and choir.

The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara (TCOMAS) have released the official video for their track, “Feed the Beast“. The track is taken from the band’s forthcoming new album, Origins, which is due to be released on November 1, 2024. The album is now available to pre-save as well as digital pre-order on The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara’s official website.

On the making of the video for “Feed the Beast”, Daphne Ang and Andrea Papi shared,
“Feed the Beast is a song about addiction and recovery. It dives into the tumultuous inner journey of learning how to live all over again. As addiction is like being controlled by a beast that demands to be constantly fed, the video shows what it’s like to lose oneself to addiction — what grows inside is a host of unimaginable horrors.”

Over the course of this year, the duo have released singles and music videos from their third studio album album: “Mysterium Tremendum” a blend of death metal, classical music and poetry; “Feed the Beast”, a progressive rock and metal anthem about addiction and recovery; “Bite the Bullet”, a hip-hop/metal song featuring UK-based Italian rapper, Mr Meuri; “It goes”, and most recently, “Waves”. Many singles scored placements in various editorial playlists, including Apple Music’s Breaking Hard Rock, New in Rock, New in Alternative, and Amazon Music’s Fresh Metal. Five tracks from the new album each have an accompanying official music video, all produced by Ang and Papi under their visual and video production entity, TCOMAS Studio.

Speaking about the new album, Origins, Daphne Ang and Andrea Papi shared, “This album is deeply personal. It is written from the heart, and with emotion and feeling. It is for the people who are still here, and for those who are now gone.” “You’ll find many unexpected twists and turns throughout the new album”, Andrea Papi added. “Such is the chaos and unpredictability of life.”

Always evolving, Originscontinues The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara’s impressive streak of self-produced efforts, Full Spectrum and Trust No Leaders, and will be the duo’s third self-produced studio album since Singapore-born Daphne Ang and Andrea Papi of Italy came together as The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara in London in early 2020.

“You’ll find many unexpected twists and turns throughout the new album”, Andrea Papi added. “Such is the chaos and unpredictability of life.”

The unified sound of the TCOMAS project highlights the partnership between Daphne Ang and Andrea Papi, who both provide vocals, music, and lyrics. Ang plays the piano and keyboards, while Papi plays the electric guitar and bass, handles the drum programming as well as producing all their work.

The album was recorded and produced by TCOMAS Studio, with mixing and mastering done by Ergosphere Studios. Additionally, the artwork for the new record, Origins, showcases original paintings by the duo. Ang and Papi explained, “The artwork for this album features paintings done by us. Our music is the reflection of our paintings, and vice versa.”

The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara’s new album Origins is out on November 1. Visit  ffm.to/origins-album to pre-save. The new album is available for purchase as a digital download at tcomas.com/origins.

The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara

The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara (TCOMAS) was born in London when Daphne Ang from Singapore and Andrea Papi from Italy joined forces in early 2020 to form the dynamic duo. TCOMAS introduced their innovative sound in their first album, Full Spectrum, an eclectic blend of heavy rock and electronic with poetry performance, most notably with “Love in the Time of Pestilence”, which graced several editorial Spotify playlists (Alternative Metal, Progressive Metal). TCOMAS became known for melding heavy music with the elegance of poetry and poignant lyrics on their second album, Trust No Leaders, which was released in July 2022. The record explored the history of metal and its sub-genres, showcasing non-Western musical influences and lyrics inspired by Jungian psychology. The duo marked their return in early 2024, with the release of a series of singles taken from their upcoming third album, Origins, with many singles scoring placements on various editorial playlists on Apple Music and Amazon Music. TCOMAS’s unique approach to combining music and visual storytelling has also garnered attention worldwide. Their self-produced music videos have been screened at film festivals globally, receiving numerous official selections and nominations to date.
